I'm going to tell you a secret recipes. The guy mentioned adding water to cheese sauce to thin it down. Rookie move. Use the juice from a can of pickled jalapenos. It's amazing
Ben, I keep hearing you were on your last leg in your videos, yet you have made it through! CONGRATULATIONS! This is one reason I am working on starting my own food vending business. I am currently being hounded by the IRS, have bad debt and feel I am falling into a hole I cannot get out. This has to be the way out for me! Not to mention, I enjoy meeting people and fast food vending.
My first suggestion would be to listen and read all the different articles and shows we have done on location. There is a huge, vast amount of ideas there and anyone that has done that has been able to find a profitable location. It would take me a book to write all the different location ideas here so I would suggest going to learnhotdogs.com type location and/or locations in the search box and you will find tons. It may take you some time, but it works every time I send someone there. Let me know if that helps.
I'm starting a burger and dog trailer soon and I gotta say I'm a little scared. But my body can't do landscaping anymore and I'd rather die than be chained in a warehouse or office so come hell or high water I'm going to make it work.
@@BensCarts repainting it now going with the same colors red and white then coating it with several coats of polyurethane clear coat need pans and spilage pans too which ill be getting from you
Just ordered the book. I'm in the "Due Diligence" phase and I'm saving up for a cart. My plan will be to have my dogs in a row, buy the cart, and start up next spring. In the meantime I will be studying, learning and planning planning planning.
The whole point of eating out is to get the good food that you don't normally buy to keep in your home. People buy the chicken and pork dogs because they are $1 per pack and they can feed their kids for $1 but when they impulse purchase from a dog stand they DO NOT want that dog, they want the all beef 1/4 lb dog that tastes like "eating out" rather than paying premium pricing for what they already have at home.
I 100% agree with the comment about Windmill dogs. Only thing is, they are $15 for a 2lb package. Too much to make a decent profit. They're custom made for Windmill by Sabrett. Blended meat dogs with a natural sheep casing.
Hi. Ben how are you. Amazing information you are giving to vendors, you are awesome! You know so much information on that business you could also teach.
I will drive 100 miles for a Sabrett. Grote & Wiegel and Muckes are great as well. I won't walk across the street for a crappy dog. No Jumbo dog please, like rubber.
Around here,I'd be afraid to sell poppy seed anything, a few years ago,a friend worked for a local factory... loves poppy seed muffins... He tested dirty for opium and had a heck of a time getting himself cleared for the false positive... We have too many union workers, and I wouldn't want to cause them problems over a hotdog bun..
Ben i enjoy your videos bc i want to start my own hotdog cart business but i haven't got my cart yet and i want your help on getting the cart thanks for sharing
You should redo this video and talk about the Bright Leaf Carolina Reds here in NC ... I sell between 40-50 of them every day ... mixed meat dogs dyed bright red! lol People here love their "Red Hots" ! I chop up fresh garlic to put in my water for my dirty water dogs!
I'm very familiar with those. Not available in many places and even in Far east NC and west, no one knows them. They are very popular though in your neck of the woods. We have red ones over here near Knoxville that are very popular too.
In more detail... What you mean flavored water? Wheres this water at? ....at home before you start work? ...in your cart/trlr? (While your buisnes open? Im planning to get into this buisness
Good video lol, I had one thought run thru my head, it was you holding that cig and not taking a hit nor passing. I coined the phrase "dr kinging it", which means talking soo much and not hitting nor passing it loool.
this is Mike from Mike City dogs so much good information on the new video I bought signs I'm going to start doing my dirty water again make my own flavor and hope to hear from you soon I'm new and everything's working out nice
Thank you for your informative videos about the hot dog business. I am a little old to start my own hot dog vending stand but, it's fun to hear you explain good, old-fashioned capitalism at its' best. Your videos should be required viewing for any college business school student. Most of those pencil-headed geeks who are teaching business school courses have never operated their own businesses and don't know their ass from a hole in the ground. You should be offered a chair at the Wharton School of Business. Best of luck in the future.
I see that this is an old video. Do you have updated ones and how can I contact you I am trying to break into the business and would love to hear any advice I could possibly get thank you🐢
Howdy, I do videos, articles and more daily. There is no update to that video. That's time tested info. Have you been to my free training site: learnhotdogs.com/start
Just a heads up. companies pay for extra shelving. or it could be the difference between having a grocery store sales manager in the area. For example Jif peanut butter sells. Its the discretion of the grocery manager to put up a display for peanut butter. But lets say i have an organic peanut putter in all the Albertsons within 200 mile radius about 21 stores. If the sales rep for that company talks to grocery manager of 10 stores to put up a display of his organic peanut butter and they just liķe the sales rep or are friends . they will put up a display. and since its an impulse item it sells more. meanwhile the other 11 stores are only on the shelf and have no onè pushing for a display. another thing companies do is pay 40k a year for entrance displays. Doritos pays that for the wall of chips you see when walking into certain chains. So the companies force sales and make things look more popular than they are. but I understand your point.
this is Mike from Mike City doors again this is an awesome business I love it and exactly no one tells you what to do but yourself in your own time you make so much sense on everything you send out thanks again hope to hear from you soon Mike
You're the best! We're setting up the Ohio & Erie Towpath Trail Snack and am starting out with a mobile trailer license to participate in events along the trail. Our first event is Fathers Day weekend at the Bolivar Ohio Strawberry Festival. We'll be selling a locally produced popular dog and a sausage dog from the Strasburg Village Garden.
Ben great info always. I am looking at a hot dog cart 2-23-18 just wanted to no what your thoughts are on it. I am just starting. Here is the ad. The guy also sent some pics it is in really good shape as far as I know. And most of the one I see like this are over 2k used. It has storage at the top as well as a reservoir for water. It has a 3 tier sink with hot and cold running water. Propane is used for heating the hot dogs and the water. It is easy to move around with one person and hooks up to a hitch for long distance. It's also storage inside of it to carry supplies. $1,500 or best offer. If I feel the offer is reasonable I'll consider it.
hey Ben I just bought your latest video on why isn't everybody a Venda I found another location at a nursing home somebody gave me all week and during the morning shift I go to Cumberland Farms so I try to pull to 2 hour shifts and I'm doing okay only will get better with all your knowledge you send me I appreciate it and next year I am buying another cart I want a fleet this is Mike's City dogs from East Providence Rhode Island
Your family must be very proud to have you sir, I can really tell you care about people and this business you seem like a great father , I hope they appreciate your energy your mind and your time all the money in the world cannot replace a good parent or role model, so many young people are tempted to do the wrong thing it is easier it is sexier but something like a hot dog cart is more lucrative and life saving some people may watch your videos and change their ways or thoughts from doing wrong to doing right by selling hot dogs. Its not just a love for food I can tell you sincerely love people you could be fishing or making money from what I can see you spend your days mentoring us for free and mentoring your family for a joy that is priceless we are lucky to have hardworking hot dog fanatic like yourself your a Jim Cramer of hot Dogs and a great father your family is blessed to have your time and wisdom you give back to us all I haven't once seen you ask for donations or put adds on your videos and your so Intelligent much thought is put into the plethora of content you've released. I dare anyone to find more devoted teacher in any field I haven't found anyone as devoted as you Thank you very kindly Ben :)
Thinking about setting up on my days off in a sleepy little town in Arkansas. I don't have permits and can't really afford a cart, or permits. Should I talk to the local police first and see if they mind me setting up? There are two factories in town close together and if I do a trial run, maybe make enough to get my permits and such, they might let me do something like this. I work 55+ hours per week already and I'm on straight commission so I don't know if I'll make a lot or not on a daily basis. Doing this for extra money may work with the factories that close with no cafeterias in either. They only have 30 min lunch breaks at different times for each department. Basically I'd have the hotdogs in a commercial 10x10 tent with an electric smoker with applewood. I'd have a folding table next to the order window with the ketchup, mustard, relish, etc. Using foil hot dog wraps, and a heavy duty foil lined cooler should keep the done ones hot right? I'll probably have access to electricity with the spot I'm trying to get. I've sold the smoked hot dogs before and everyone said theyre the best hot dogs they've tasted. Any tips?
I'm going to tell you a secret recipes. The guy mentioned adding water to cheese sauce to thin it down. Rookie move.

I doubt the police would know the codes but I'd call the city and ask for whoever is over code enforcement.
Thanks for the reply, I will do that, call the health dept, and see if I can even use a smoker to cook the dogs.
hebrew national tastes good, but too price
What about kosher? I am serving in an area highly populated with jewish people.
Yup, serve to your crowd. If your crowd is Jewish, then have a good Kosher menu. We have some vendors with a full Kosher menu that do well.
I use Nathan or Hebrew national
sonoran hotdog!
