  • In this interview, the artist, Patrick James Michel, shares his creative process, spending time with local communities and building connections with the people. Through these built relationships come the creation of his photographs.
    This image was shot on the historic Dugout Ranch near Moab. The year before this image was shot, the Conservancy had worked with the Redd family to protect the Dugout Ranch from development It features Heidi Redd and her son in a very simple, relaxed setting. It transmits their deep positive energy and love for the land that they are well known for. While cowgirl Heidi Redd is still a larger-than-life presence and crucial ambassador, her son, Matt, now manages the ranch, helping to usher in a new era of science and ranching.
