    I agree that how you walk can help with your martial arts. I try to control my breathing whilst walking, making the out-breath longer than the in-breath hopefully this cleans out any stale air, again this is a tai chi concept! At the same time, I concentrate on relaxing my shoulders to start with, eventually learning to relax my whole body. All I am saying here is that every movement you make you can consciously improve your martial arts if done with this in mind! It sounds simple but I am reminded of a black belt class with a Korean 9th dan instructor, Master Kim Yong Ho who told us that all martial arts are 80% the same, all about relaxation and breathing with the other 20% being the differences in techniques practised by the different arts. he also told us that now we have reached 1st dan he advised us to incorporate one of the internal arts, Aikido or Tai Chi into our practice, I did not understand this as a young 1st dan but I do now. This is one of the reasons I respect your teachings, your open mind to all of the martial arts as one of the things that annoys me greatly is the so-called Sensei's who insist that their art is the be-all and end-all of the martial arts, a ridiculous attitude! Thanks again Sensei Ando, 90% of my current Shotokan class are now watching your online classes after I have explained to them the value of your open-minded lessons!

    This does work, he is right.
    After years of walking like a martial artist, you became much more stable, even on slippery surfaces. It is one of those intangible things in life that people who dont have it dont understand. Yet, it is a much better way of walking.
    Another one is using "tan tien", your center of gravity or power, in everything you do, all day. It becomes natural and empowers your movements, and helps prevent injuries.

      @Ajax Blair. Consider walking like a single guy. This will attract single girls to you. Look lonely, for example, I would bring a teddy bear with me on bus trips, because of not liking to travel alone. Being creative with signs or props (evoking conversation) being single works, causing curiosity or laughter work best, be interesting to create interset.
      Don't look for fun people to hang out with rather be a fun person for others to want to be with.

Toes pointed forward, head up and eyes on the horizon, I step forward with central balance and push off with the ball of the foot and land with the heel of the opposite foot. With this I vary my speed by the length of my stride and the amount I extend my leading foot on the push off. I can walk miles like this (at age 71.)

Body language says alot good points you made in this video.

    This is like saying drive like a race car driver...not going to happen from a video. You'll just observe how race car drivers drive.
    The way to walk like a martial artist is to dedicate yourself to training martial arts.
    Good training changes how you walk, your balance, and your awareness.

    Excellent video Sir. We were just taking about this last week. My friend attended a self defense seminar because she had an incident. She knows I train and we talked about some of the things that happens when you train and gain confidence. You become more attentive, confident, look people in the eye and feel proud to be alive. Yeah it sounds a little silly but people who train understand the confidence and attentive aura they seem to possess. The seminar she attended explained some of this. Don’t look weak or like a victim. Pay attention, get off your phone, hold your head up and have a positive posture. Gain situational awareness and even think about scenarios as you encounter new situations. Women really need to do this more than men but men should as well.
    I honestly think once you respect the arts and traditions (maybe a few sparring sessions too) you start respecting yourself and others..... thank you again 👍🏻

    As a northern european (Finnish) i would say walking right way especially at winter time saves you from lot of trouble 😄
    And so does knowing how to fall 👍

    What do You think about walking with each arm moving in alignment with the same side foot (as opposed to the usual walking) as an excercice?

    • @AndoMierzwa
      @AndoMierzwa  4 года назад +1

      Absolutely! Anything you can do to challenge your coordination is helpful, in my opinion! Thanks, Michel! 🙏🏻
