@@AndoMierzwa Sir love the video. May I share some ideas? In japanese all these in ur video in one principle is called zanchin. There are generally four alertness level within us, 1.) white (where I sit here and watch yt videos - thinking d world will favor me away from any harm ), 2.) yellow (where I do the previous but I have the kali stick by my side, the preparedness), 3.) orange (when u go out u r always remembering danger may come out from all direction - crashing cars, falling huge branches, a thug in hood following u frm behind in broad daylight etc. But not in a paranoid sense) 4.) and red (life & death situation) that is why it's called red alert. I always try to condition my mind in yellow alert in normal situations. That is my zanchin mindset self training. keep up sharing good ideas sir. Ty
Ah, you're awesome. Especially loved imagining getting hit and losing, don't think I've heard that suggested before-self-inducing surprise'd be next level haha. I think of these habits as part of our shadow boxing software which ideally is continually updated to produce evermore detailed simulations. The "imaginary friends" part of the brain repurposed and developed for training.
Courtesy of Fighttips, what you can do (if you have a MMA bag or a heavy bag) is have a resistance band tie it around yourself and the bag so that when you hit the bag, it comes right back at you. You can practice pivot step, resetting your attacks, finding angles, head movement, etc, etc.
this might look silly, but is sooooo wise. I would say to anyone doubting this to watch the first Pedro Rizzo vs Josh Barnett fight. Pedro's knockout set up started witha retreating punch.
ONE of my 5 arts is KENPO-- we don't know the meaning of JUST ONE.... :) I use to suspend various things- balls, bags, hay bales- etc. at differnt heights in the barn wtih stuff strewn everywhere-- and get them all moving in different directions, then close my eyes and go through it.. FUN- but very useful.. Never the same thing TWICE.. and the hay bales would knock me for a loop sometimes.. and roll- outs or recoveries were necessary.. and more. LOVE your videos. and so glad it's not all the same old crap over and over-- as the mistake you mentioned.. :)
Leftover burrito hilarious! So true though it's easy to get distracted when you're training alone. When I'm training at home I focus on attribute building just as much as actual technical work, like a balance beam, I like to throw tennis ball against a wall at a target I get the throwing but I also get a get to build my reflexes by catching it, pulling on resistance bands in judo we call it uchi komi its pulling on the band's and trying to simulate positions you get in to throw someone to the ground, add this kind of stuff to your bag work resistance training and forms, good advice to practice or even imagine losing that's wise to assume things may not always happen the way you think.
You've been here for five years sensei ando and you look and sound just the same. Thank you for being here 🙏🏻 I was a kid when I first started your videos. Damn How'd I get so grown lol
You're an entertaining teacher! I'm not really into these stuff (just forced to learn so I could pass my PE class) but you're making it a lot more interesting with your humor🤣 and practical tips. Thanks!
Nice I liked this I have a bad habit of not moving to the side I just go threw whoever I am sparring with. been working on foot work but for a 53 year old guy trying to get back into martial arts sometimes it is hard. Ando you have a great teaching style love your videos Thank you
With boxing starts off with the usual shadow boxing however with 'The 52blocks System' starts off as a warm up with shadow defending. Funny thing is that people passing by when shadow defending get the idea that I'm waving hello and giving friendly gestures at them so accordingly they wave back. As shadow defending is not the the usual thing to see for most people. Therfore starting off shadow defending then shadow boxing and eventually mix the two makes for a realistic chance towards mixing things up in practice, also using faints. A part of this warm up is to mimic getting hit also, from onlookers it looks wired as if getting beaten up by an invisible man but it does help with the idea of getting hit and then hitting back or taking actions of recovery, or striking back from bad positions. Great topic, thanks for sharing, all the best to you Ando🙏
I needed to hear this today! I got my butt kicked sparring last night, and maintaining focus and self confidence is hard afterwards! Love your videos, thank you! I realize now being able to take a punch is just as important as being able to throw one successfully!
Great video, Ando. And though it's unclear if you've got a new training space for future classes, current private classes, or strictly for home training and making RUclips videos, it's wonderful to see you clearly moving on from that video where your last school was closing up. (That was a sad, brave, and reflective video.) Shield and sword, onward!
Great advice as always, thank you! I used to punch and move out, but I guess I'll focus a bit more on block out now to combine it. Have a great day and hopefully a piece of pie ;)
Very important video Ando. When I train alone, and I don't have a dummy, I imagine my bad guy, I love the pivot and side out. I am not a fan of going back, I am a fan of going to the side. And from adoring the Dragon style of Kung-Fu (My favorite animal), The Dragon philosophy as I was told by my master, is not to strike first, let your enemy come to you, do not favor distance, favor closeness. And that's what I do, I like it, keeping my enemy close to me- You know why? I am a small guy, 1.65 m so I have a small reach, for me to be effective, without disposal effort, I need to get real close, that's why I am also not a fan of big acrobatic moves, I don't believe in that moves, I believe in comfortable close range, down to earth moves. Funny I say down to earth, Vale Tudo is nearly the same as BJJ, with addition of some good lethal techniques to use, in both arts I want my enemy on floor, if I can strike from an elevated position, then I'm the king.

I am lucky enough that classes are resuming at my dojo. I gotta say though this was one of the most common mistakes I’ve made as a beginner which I can happily say I started to correct. Amazing work as usual Sensei!!! ☺️
I would always emphasize “three shots and out” to my Tae Kwon Do students. Years later, my boxing coach would emphasize finishing every combination with a left jab. Especially on the way out. It really helped keep opponents in check. Smart advice from you. Hope you’re doing well!
Great advice Sensei...I always feel bad for bob, he seems to get routinely beaten in dojos, dojangs, and kwoons worldwide. I think Bob needs some sympathy, what about his happy life?....
😰 (gasps!) A Bloodsport reference to upstage an Enter the Dragon reference!?!?...How dare you Sir! 😁 I think Bolo said "Brick no hit back"...and I'm pretty sure he learned that from Bruce Lee at the tournament in Enter the Dragon which Bolo was in - because that's how martial arts are transmitted from one to another...Easy mistake to make though; not even sure actually if I'm correct... But anyway...How dare you Sir! 😊😂🙏
I was worried I might be making "the mistake" but I don't :-) Back in the day, I used to train with a large swinging bag in the dojo. One time I wasn't paying attention after I kicked it and turned my back and that thing came crashing into me!.
