  • In this video I’m showing you how I cut my 1” RC tire foams to make them softer and get better traction out of my tires. This particular foam is from the RC4WD Milestar Patagonia M/T that I installed on my AXIAL SCX24 micro crawler.
This technique can be applied to any size foam, and the stiffness can be adjusted by cutting more or fewer holes, and by cutting smaller or larger holes. You can also get creative by combining different size holes in the same foam to achieve a progressive compression.

Oooo, you clever fella! I've just marked out some templates to print off in CAD and just need to find a hole punch.

In the meantime I found this leather hole puncher that works as well. Check harbor freight

Next time I go to a HL or Michael’s, I’ll have to get the stuff to do that on the trucks I have for Dad and myself!

Niice. So much thought amd engineering into this. I like it. Thanks for sharing. 👍
I purchased some 2.2 JConcepts Ruptures and the foam is too stiff. Im going to try this method i think.

It works great. And you can punch more or fewer holes to achieve desired softness

Ever compared it the star or triangle method? Have you found this flexes better?

Wow thats overkill with the technical drawing, i just very roughly cut out some material with a hot wire cutter, making it sth. like gear wheel shape, good enough for me.

It is if you only cut one foam. I used that template to cut 3 sets (12 foams), and I still have it if needed. One thing I found out to be easier the second time around, was to use a leather hole puncher, rather than a paper one.
