MICKEY SHOULD HAVE SHOWED US THE HISTORY OF DISNEY FILMS!
Start with Snow White! And we go inside her world.
And each room is a different movie to represent a decade of Disney!
Then at the end it would a screen so it can always update to the latest film!
It would have fit the movie theme of the park and have Mickey as your guide!

For my Disney College Program in 2008 I was beyond lucky to be placed in attractions, specifically the Great Movie Ride. Was some of the most fun times of my life and I am still very sour towards them for gutting it to put in Runaway Railway. The original version may have ran it course, more so the licensing ran out and the cost to renew was not worth it in their eyes, they easily could have renovated it. Disney has a massive catalog of classic movies that they own, as well as the catalogs from studios they purchased along the way. You are going to tell me that they couldn't string together a new set of classics to build life sized sets, putting people in the movies that the more recent generations grew up with?? The New Great Movie Ride was a low hanging fruit for imagineering and could have been something epic. Once again imagineering is off the mark.

The licensing for the original GMR had no expiration date. However, the final montage did become outdated and eventually, a weird promo for lousy Disney movies (Armageddon in the same reel as Star Wars? Really?)

I would KILL for The Great Muppet Movie Ride. I've been saying for years that Disney should move Star Tours to Galaxy's Edge (or just trash it, the OG is at Disneyland anyways) and use that space plus the restaurant next to Star Tours for an expanded Muppets area, finally completing the original idea Jim Henson had in mind back in the 90s. Build the Swedish Chef restaurant, build the restaurant with the rats bringing food to your table (or combine those ideas into one chaotic restaurant), and build The Great Muppet Movie Ride! The Muppets are still popular with people and they're iconic, pretty much everyone knows who Kermit is thanks to memes. Plus, to be honest, it doesn't matter what the IP of an attraction is, if it's a great attraction people will ride it.

I agree with that even though Galaxy's Edge is based on the Sequel Trilogy while Star Tours has some influence from the original trilogy. Also if you have the rat restaurant or the other one based on the Swedish Chef or just one that is a mix of both ideas then there would be no need for PizzaRizzo anymore gut it and bring back Pizza Planet (My Version would be a mini Club Sega arcade with a Pizza restaurant based on Pizza Planet from Toy Story).

For the Disney Suck-Up version, as you so eloquently put it, I have my own ideas for it. Rule 1: "No Marvel". Like you said, Universal Orlando makes putting any Marvel stuff in Disney World next to impossible, and Guardians Of The Galaxy is already represented. Which leads us to... Rule 2: "No Disney IPs already represented as a ride or attraction". If there's one thing I hate at the parks, it's redundancy. Toy Story doesn't need the Buzz Lightyear rides anymore! It has its own land, now! Other than that, anything owned by Disney is fair game. I'd keep Tangled, WALL-E, and Mary Poppins in my version of the ride. As for the others, I'd have The Hunchback Of Notre Dame, Hercules, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Meet The Robinsons, and Encanto, along with Tangled, represent Disney Feature Animation. I'd have The Incredibles, Inside Out, Coco, and Elemental, along with WALL-E, represent Pixar. For Fox, I'd do Home Alone, Die Hard, Anastasia, and Alita Battle Angel. For Disney live-action, other than Mary Poppins, I really only think Herbie The Love Bug would work for such a ride. And lastly, even though it's not, technically, a movie, it did have A movie. And considering how huge the IP is for Disney, I would add Kim Possible to the ride.
Your idea of adding Pirates Of The Caribbean to the ride is BRILLIANT, though. No notes. Stroke of genius!

Personally if we want a post-2010 pick I’d choose La La Land for True to Cinema. Just imagine driving through the planetarium scene with them overhead.
For Disney Ren I’d personally go with Hunchback, only because some well-placed screens and some arches overlooking Paris would really accomplish a cool effect like the one you had while entering the Alien sequence. Quasi singing “Out There” also highlights both Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz, so double whammy of Renaissance writers. (And ofc Lion King shares that space)
My personal qualm with a Universal version of this: while it would be extremely cool and you could EASILY take direct inspiration from the backlot tour for a framing device, I would argue Universal lacks the franchises to do this. Consider that in recent years they’ve gone all in on stuff like Bourne, Minions, and Nintendo- brands that are either semi-dead, overused, or not theirs. Most of their content that works well for them is immortal, and they’ve already used most of those franchises. If they license from Warner and Paramount like they did for HP and Transformers, the library expands. I think that’s the only way to do the concept justice.

    • @IcyDiamond
      @IcyDiamond 4 месяца назад +3

I love the La La Land idea because that film is basically a giant love letter to golden age movie musicals, so it’d fit perfectly thematically along with the others
I disagree with your assessment on the Universal one, yes most of modern Universal is using a couple of franchises and laser focusing on them, Harry Potter, Super Mario, The Minions, Jurassic Park, yet I’d argue movies like Frankenstein, Back To The Future, E.T., and Jaws are still classics and would still get people hyped despite being dormant franchises as of now

Wow, not just one, but four different ideas! I love this video idea.
As for the original, it also depended on how expensive each scene is on whether it'd be realistically done, or not too. It wasn't just based whether they had the rights, or not to a film. For example, the reason why Fantasia is even in it is due to during the making of the original The Great Movie ride they couldn't afford the rights to the twister scene AND the munchkin scene for The Wizard of Oz. Due to being unable to afford both, but already installed the wind effects for the twister scene, they made it into Fantasia instead.

  • @eric3529
    @eric3529 4 месяца назад +9

I like the majority of your picks for your "True to Cinema Version". I'm not a big fan of incorporating animated films into it though. I understand WHY you think they should be included, and I understand WHY Disney probably would if they hypothetically redid the ride, but I wouldn't be into it.
I'd also drop North By Northwest. Should Hitchcock be included in the ride? Yes. But without the rights to his other classics, I'd exclude him all together. Plus, we don't have any other classic "spy thrillers" in the ride, so just forgo the genre.
I would take out Shawshank too. It's in my personal top 25, but I don't think it needs to be in the ride.
I'd keep Alien in the ride. I like Planet of the Apes being put in there, and transitioning from the end of Planet of Apes, into a scene from Alien, would be a great showing of how sci-fi changed from the end of the 60's to the end of the 70's.
Everything else I'm agreeing with. It's A Wonderful Life is one of my favorite films, it's probably my number one Christmas movie of all time.
One more thing I'll say, is I'd want to keep the interactive portions of the ride. That's actually the second reason I'd kick out the animated films being included. A huge part of the charm and fun of the ride was the inclusion of CM's and how they interacted with guests and the ride itself.

    • @IcyDiamond
      @IcyDiamond 4 месяца назад +1

Okay but the scene where Andy celebrates getting out of Shawshank would be super cool to see recreated with an animatronic
Also imo I feel we need at least one animated film, I think Beauty & The Beast would be a good fit, you could recreate the ballroom scene with someone in a Belle costume and someone in Beast makeup or with animatronics if you want it to feel tangible

Disney wanted to refrain from paying a million a year for the rights to the featured films
They however obtained 20th Century Fox (or 21st?) and they at least have the rights to alien
I wish they’d just have bit the bullet and paid the royalties; they can afford it for gods sake!
They could have at least preserved that Margaret Hamilton animatronic

  • @QuentrixMovies
    @QuentrixMovies 4 месяца назад +2

I would swap Beauty & the Beast with Little Mermaid since all of the 90s movies followed in its footsteps and you could argue it had a larger impact on the industry as a whole. Also Pinocchio absolutely needs to be represented. It is often regarded as Walt Disney's masterpiece and set the standard for animated movies. It is always listed as one of the top animated films of all time.

I love these ideas and some would be amazing but I still wish all of the parks would focus more on film historical preservation. I know I’m such a niche audience because I’m such a big fan of classic Hollywood movies but that’s why I fell in love with the original idea of Disney MGM studios. It was the only park that focused on the golden age compared to the modern one. Even if people don’t know what the movie is anymore something might attract them to watch it and keep its legacy alive.

A new great movie ride will be most likely an advertisment for Disney ips that are relevant on their streaming service. I don't know if Disney will building a new one anytime soon, but the concept of this attraction is still underexplored.
For example the relative small park "movie park germany" opened relative recently its own interpretation of this ride. Their idea was to make a rollercoaster/dark ride hybrid attraction. It may not have the Disney/Universal budget, but I found the idea interesting.

A GMR Re-Imagining that removed the 8 (of 12) films that would require DIS to pay for licensing right and replacing them with scenes from films in the DIS owned catalog that fit both the physical space, scene run-time and the emotional/story beats of the existing ride. From the pics, I gotta go with the Great Muppet Movie Ride(no brainer, plus we need more Muppet attractions)
If they go with number 1, then you could do scenes based on genres(western, sci-fi, comedy, etc) with the most popular moments contained in one scene like a collage.
If they went with number 2, they could just do a Disney by Decade ride, where they have scenes/characters represented based on each Disney Era(the problem would be updating it)
However, a wacky idea, would be combing 2 and 4, like Disney as told by the Muppets, where they parody scenes from Disney greatest films, yet still end with an ensemble singing Rainbow Connection.

If there was a Great Muppet Movie Ride, EVEN THOUGH it's technically a TV show, you'd HAVE TO start with the opening sequence to the Muppet Show, complete with Waldorf and Statler.

i will not accept your Fantasia slander, its still one of my top Disney movies to this day, but i do like a lot of the movies you would include. a whole hitchcock section would be a dream for me. i went on the movie ride in 2017 for my 18th bday. im glad i got to ride it one last time before they put in the screen abomination of MRR.
Edit as i continue to listen:
THE BLACK CAULDRON PLEASE!!! that would be my ultimate pick i think. its so underrated and scarred me enough as a child to become one of my faves.

If I could make a great movie ride style attraction for Universal, I would use the scoop vehicles and it would be a time machine created by Doc Brown from Back To The Future and it would go through Universal movie scenes. I would put the ride at Universal Studios Hollywood because it is the parking started all

For universal, what about one for a culmination of Spielbergs work? His work is all over universals own history and park, so instead of doing specific ones... put em all in one.

For Disney's Great Movie Ride, you didn't think to include Zorro, True Life Adventures, or even the ultra-popular (at the time) Davy Crockett?
Hell, even the Muppet Movie should've gotten a mention: Kermit and Fozzie pulling up alongside the ride vehicle and asking the tour guide for directions while "Movin' Right Along" plays.

The set of Apocalypse Now would be fantastic, especially if Michael Sheen appears popping his head up out of the water.
Predator would also be a great scene, and you could use the Peppers Ghost effect really well for the camouflage of the alien.
Spielberg's Temple of Doom is a no brainer, much better scenes than Lost Arc.
Lastly, one of the all-time greats, James Cameron's Aliens, with the scene of Ripley appearing out of the elevator in that Powered Work Loader... that would be sensational.

I think the important thing is to put films in that *changed* cinema, not movies that were just good movies.
    These are all must-haves:
    The Fellowship of the Ring
    Night of the Living Dead
    Mary Poppins
    Jurassic Park
The Lion King (or Snow White)
    Star Wars
    Toy Story
    Avatar (yes)
    Jaws
    Alien

One thing I would’ve changed about the True to Cinema section is replacing Dr. Caligari with Nosferatu. The former is definitely an important piece of cinema, however Nosferatu is a lot more iconic and is often what people think of when they think of silent horror.

In the silent film section, it would be good to put Charlie Chaplin because he and the other early pioneers of film laid the foundation of what film is supposed to be today.

I think theres one category you should have done and it would be "no limits" version! where theres no licensing issues or anything in the way of making this ride! here's my version of that sticking to the original 12/13ish movies represented!
    1 - silent era
    2 - the public enemy
    3 - King Kong
    4 - snow white
    5 - casablanca
    6 - vertigo
    7 - ben hur
8 - guess whos coming to dinner
    9 - The Thing
    10 - the godfather
    11 - reservoir dogs
    12 - the matrix
13 finale - smile darn ya smile.

Idc we need a 1931 Dracula scene in the universal one, I would argue that Bela Lugosi as Dracula is the most iconic monster for horror, his performance has basically changed how we imagine the character, also Dracula is just cool and universal seems to like the rule of cool.

As a fan of the ride, I absolutely love this hypothetical
I love the true to cimena, universal, and muppets ideas and would be completely okay with any of these ideas happening with the exact lineups you just mentioned (I will do a little addition with Titanic in the Muppets version because I think it would be hilarious if they created some of those scenes from that movie)
I will say that in this day and age and knowing the mindset of both Disney and Universal, at least when it comes to their theme parks, Universal would make one hell of a Great Movie Ride and it would be perfect for Universal Studios Orlando as that park need some more interesting rides that are not bad 3D screen rides and if Disney ever wanted to resurrect the Great Movie Ride, I unfortunately think they would most likely go the suck-up/lazy route because they can't help themselves (which by the way, that mindset is why most people think Disney parks suck nowadays and why Universal is catching up to them when it comes to theme park competition)
Great video as always attraction ideas
