Keystep pro - Making a hiphop beat in the dawless corner

- I decided to hook up the Arturia Keystep Pro to some of my hardware synths and drum machines to make a beat. The result is really cool and a bit different from what I normally post but I couldn't help myself from putting some scratch on it at the end of the video as always. :D

Well, I’ve never stumbled upon a sequencer in keyboard format that beats what the keystep pro can do. This is definitely gonna be a favorite piece of gear for a lot of hardware based producers.
You explained the devices and what you were doing very succinctly (concise+precise); for an extreme novice like myself, I appreciated your step-by-step approach. The scratching at the end was superb. Thanks!

Dream setup.. I’m thinking of going dawless because it seems my workflow is better that way, but I have very little gear that works without a computer, so gonna need to get a few things. But, in the meantime I’ll watch some awesome beats like these! Definitely inspiring!

This keystep pro is a great compact format .. 37 keys is a winner for me, 25 doesnt quite cut the mustard

Accurate, that was a really inspiring video to watch! You picked a great combo of instruments to control from the Keystep Pro... also first time hearing the Wavestate and DFAM used to make a dope song. I think its a good mental and spiritual exercise to step outside one's comfort zone and explore different routes into creativity.... this case with a different combo of instruments to what you normally use and i think your creativity paid off! looking forward to the next vid! (but also to say, love seeing your 'conventional' videos as much! haha

Cool beats and showing bro! Enjoying Keystep Pro too, feels so organic (making hybrid Keystep, you always had handy, and Beatstep Pro flow). You looks feel natural to it too, almost like Maschine but on keys. Lets see better your creative flow with atomic instruments. That micro-shift is so handy on KSP, right? Was thinking the same! A bit early 2000's Xhibit type of beat:) but gosh does this drumbrute kick sound hollow and knock-y as hell - super trashy machine:)

Hey man. I've subscribed for a while. I'm not sure what happened to your eye but glad bg you have the patch off.
So I already make music...I have had a taste of dawless at a friend's house. They were super loaded so they pretty much had everything. I would like to know if you can make a video of what kind of ideal setup you would have on a 1k - 2k budget. Even if n.v you dont make it you still taught me alot man. Peace

This thing looks cool man . did they fix the BPM ??? I Have a Beatsteppro , Drum brute & Impact and all of them have a wrong clock . 120 BPM on my DAW is different to the one on all my Arturia gear. just slightly OFF ... this isn't a problem when you jam / compose ... but once you are happy with an idea ... you run into problem when recording into the DAW... all of it is wrong ... it's works for a Bar but if you work on 64steps , it goes off ... and not in a good way ...

I should just start with the DAW sending the tempo. But then the Beatsteppro Has a really Hard time flowing the Beat ... and if you try to use CV on top of that It really can't cope with it...
could you Please try to Sync the Keystep pro to the AKAi , and try to Run some CV Drums & more see if it can cope ???
Also could you please please check the BPM ??? 2X 64 STEPS loop record it and see if it machete the DAWs BPM?
I don't have that issue with the MPC live ... It's not as bad /wrong Beatsteppro ...
Please report back as I really need to replace it and this would be perfect .

Do you have to manually set each of your hardware to recieve midi on a specific channel?? Ie, one synth set to channel 1, next synth set as channel 2, next synth channel 3??
I mean how is the midi parts done as in set up??
i see the sp404,i remember i bought one just to run my beats thru it live and catch those effects by twisting the knobs aw man it was endless,i had the mpc1000 w/jjos,a mini mixer,asr10,apogee 1 interface,1 rokkit,in 2010..not a cheap settup at all,i started with cool edit and freesound.co m,100% samples/loop

how did you got this setup with midi? For some reason this doesn't work with the MK2. as it only triggers the first 4 pads and the rest he seems to not receive.

Hi friend. I cannot get my keystep pro to talk to my Drumbrute Imapct. It sends clock and start and stop ok but it WILL not trigger from the drum track. What gives? Using 5 pin.
I bought it.. it’s cool thing I had to return it … what a bummer you need a computer and other add-ons. Which would’ve cost me over $3000. Not worth it .. I use GarageBand it does the same thing.. you’d be surprised. It’s incredible.

Can you break down the exact connections you went from the keystep pro to the drumbrute? Also I only see one connection from the key step pro to the minibrute2s? Where are your midi cables going to? I have a similar setup I need help going dawless
