The perfect vídeo exists 🥰
Your joy for books is so uplifting! It was a perfect video to watch after a day of work. My tbr just grew bigger:)
That's great to hear! 😊📚
I separate my books into different genres and even have separated them into sub-genres by time periods, i.e., publication dates. Recently I did what you've just done and of the 1,500 books I own I got rid of a grand total of---6.
Oh wow, that's an interesting system. I do have separate shelves for anthologies but otherwise I blend them together. And I can understand why you'd only get rid of 6. 😅
This is a very worthy project! There is something incredibly satisfying about having all your favorite titles in one place where you can look at them and grin. And also something satisfying about clearing books out of your bookshelves that you don’t need/want anymore, to make way for more. Well done!
Yeah, I'm so glad I've done it because in the days since every time I look at these shelves it makes me happy. It is so difficult choosing to get rid of books but I know I'll soon forget them as they're titles I won't ever get to or read again.
Those memories that attach to books....that's why I still have some tattered paperback novels from college even though I prefer hardcovers. Your floor to ceiling bookshelves are to die for.
Yeah, I really treasure some of my battered old copies. And thank you! 📚
Great job Eric! Today I picked out over 30 books to unhaul. Unfortunately I do not have such beautiful bookcases. XX sounds very interesting. A lot of the books you mentioned sound amazing!
Thanks! 📚📚📚
I love what you said about memories being attached to your books. ❤️ I definitely feel that way too and it’s one of my favourite parts of reading.
Your shelves look fab!! A job well done I say ✅
Yeah, it's what makes sorting through books so time consuming because I stop to think about all these things. And thank you! 📚
The shelves in your library are the biggest I’ve ever seen! 😍😍
Thanks Jack! When I first had these shelves built in I thought I could never fill them but I've run out of space again. 📚📚📚
I love how you love your books!! I have a library in my home, and I rearrange them to reacquaint myself with them. My husband doesn’t get it. Is your husband as supportive of your passion for books?
Thank you! And yes, he's very supportive and tolerates my need for so many books. 😅📚
I have a project like this in front of me but I know I need to carve out a day or so to accomplish it and it never seems the right time. I shall take inspiration from you Eric and stop procrastinating! 😉
Yeah it is a time consuming job but satisfying in the end - as well as a nostalgia trip! 😄📚
That was fun to watch, Eric. I think I've read at least 20 of those on your favourites shelves. At least from the titles I can see. A few on still on my TBR and have been for an age, Like Brick Lane and White Teeth! My bookshelves are arranged by various projects that only I really understand, lol. I try to keep authors together but sometimes separate them into read and TBR.
I keep my favourite Australian novels together generally. Classics together, particularly if by the same publisher. non-fiction and fiction are usually separate. Fortunately, I didn't think any that you took to the charity shop would be keepers either. Enjoy the summer and the ice cream :D
I love bookshelves that are arranged by the owner’s logic which no one else seeing them could understand! 😄📚
I love your book shelves. They are so pretty. In general I think any bookshelf with books will look beautiful. Personally since my family and I move a lot, I’ve only had e books and audiobooks for the last 7 years. The only physical books I have are art books. But I miss having physical books a lot. My daughters have physical books and they also love arranging them and moving them around. You have very interesting books , I’ve added a lot to my TBR 😊
Thank you! That’s interesting to hear. 📚
Watching this video makes me realize how many books I owned were due to your recommendations/videos! ❤
Awe, that’s great to hear! 😊📚
I have been wanting to reorganize my bookshelves as well but you are right - it is a huge task and feels overwhelming.
Satisfying at the end though! 📚
Huge chore but always so much fun to reorganise books. I love your enthusiasm 🤭🤭 I have very little space so although my bookshelves are tidy enough and mostly in alpha order they are all over the house! Bit messy.
Thanks! And nothing wrong with having books scattered around for easy access. 😊📚
Have you done a video on introducing Joyce Carol Oates to those who have not read her?
Yes, I've made a few videos specifically about Oates. One of my first (very rough) videos was a where to start about her books: ruclips.net/video/f0OoLH29atw/видео.html
And I also made a top 10 of her novels: ruclips.net/video/eohEVwY_AMc/видео.html
Cathedral sounds similar to The Pillars of the Earth.
Oh god. My books are everywhere including new books scattered amongst bookshelves throughout my house. I am trying slowly to get rid of books as all my bookshelves are crammed. It feels like every room in our house has an alphabetical bookcase. However I do have a separate Scottish and Irish collection that are solely on one large bookcase.
That’s great! 😊📚📚📚
About a dozen on your list above are on my list of top 21c favorites as well! (I suggested Washington Black to a library patron last Tuesday and Claire Fuller's Unsettled Ground last week!) I, too, have a few shelves at home that don't fit the overall pattern. For example, E.B.White has his own corner on the upper right, as if in Maine! PS Please don't be too quick to consider creating beauty (as defined by you) to be shallow. If in doubt, perhaps you'd enjoy reading 'Your Brain on Art' by Susan Magsamen & Ivy Ross (2023)? Onward ~
Haha, I love the idea of EB White being exiled to the Maine of bookshelves. And you're right. There's nothing wrong with enjoying the aesthetics of how books are displayed. 📚
Besides the books you mentioned, I would like to know where you got that T-shirt Eric.
I got the t-shirt in a clothes shop in Toronto when I was on vacation. I can't remember the name of the shop but when I saw the shirt I thought 'I have to get that!' 😄
I loved watching this video , you have such a soothing voice and I love making notes of books to read from your videos , what was the Ann Patchett you were moving ? I saw it on the pile to go ! I have loved most of her novels
Thank you! The Patchett novel is Commonwealth which I haven’t read but I have kept it! I plan to read it as I’ve heard such good things and I love The Dutch House and other books I’ve read by her. 📚
I really enjoyed Commonwealth , my favourite of hers has been The Magicians Assistant , beautiful. I’m going to read a Joyce Carol Oates on your recommendation now
@@beatlotscher160 Great! Hope you enjoy JCO.
Hello, can you easily lend your books to others? Is the preserved aesthetic value of the book important to you?
Hi, not easily because I do like to keep most of them in good condition. I’m not as precious about it as I used to be but still find it hard to let them get scruffed up or underline in the book.
You have such beautiful shelves. I don't buy many books these days and I'm happy to pass them on to others.
Thank you! 📚
Such lovely books!😍
My bookshelves are surely tidy but my collection is small (a little less than 200 books only)
Thank you 📚
Masses of female authors 😊
