A presentation that glimpses the depth of knowledge guiding the high skill needed to sculpture hair. It must be rewarding to receive such grateful commentary from both practitioners and student. Bravo, Maestro.
Wow, you gave the best instruction and example on how to cut hair using scissor only. Hope my wife will follow your instruction carefully, I will be her first ever guinea pig. Thanks, man. Wish me a good luck 😳
Excellent video!! Your instructions are very clear and easy to understand. I just cut my husband's hair for the first time, and he is very happy! Thank you so much!
Thank you for teaching. Small advice, wear a light shirt if you make a take with a guy with dark hair. Now often you can't see it that well because both are dark and there is minor contrast.
Thank you for sharing, this is such a clear and amazing tutorial. Using a contrasting coloured comb also made it a lot easier to see. I'm only worried I might take out uneven chunks of hair while doing the scissor over comb technique!
Very nice. I love hair cuts using scissors only. It takes a lot more skill and experience. Clippers is so much easier and very little training I wish all hairdressers only used scissors. They use clippers because it is quicker and so much easier but cutting with scissors looks miles better in my opinion.Clippers requires very little skill or training in comparison I learned a lot here. The best video so far I’ve seen on a RUclips to cut hair. This is the technique everyone should use to cut hair in my opinion. Looks great but takes a lot of skill and practice. Not so easy to find a hair dresser these days that have these skills and cut hair properly and that’s why clippers is so popular
Thank you for this video...I am planning a free haircut back to school for the kids in the community that cant afford it....out of the church, thanks so much you teach well....great teacher and haircut
Thank you for this! We are on a lockdown because of the virus and my husband needs a haircut. I hope I don't butcher his hair haha thanks for the tutorial! You defff deserve more subscribers and views!
Thanks for sharing this video... i am from Sri Lanka... but now working State Of Qatar. in this covid 19 situation my company all friends are waiting for open any salon. but no... so i try first ct my hair my self. it's work. after i cut my friends also. it wasn't perfect but we both happy, because more hair more tention 😝😜🤪... so before i cut i checed RUclips videos. your also.... Thanks lot for Your Valuable work and Education 👍👍👍 God Bless You And Family 🙏🙏🙏 Thilina from Sri Lanka...
Day 47 of the Covid-19 pandemic quarantine. I'm watching your videos in an attempt to learn how to cut my husband's hair. I'm super nervous so I'll be watching your videos repeatedly before I pick up a set of scissors. I know the potential of a worldwide lock-down never crossed your mind when you filmed this in 2017, but thank you for documenting this process. Personally, I'd rather just have you cut my husband's hair but that's okay. I can do this. Maybe. How long does it take for bald patches to fill in???
You make it so easier and I'm in love with this technique of yours. Thnku soo much for such an amazing knowledge tips and pls keep share such more useful videos.
thank you mr jonathan..you are a good n patient teacher..very good hair education during this pandemic..i like your method of teaching.very easy to follow n understand..keep it up..you are kind sir...good mentor....God bless you...♥️🙏🌹..please be safe always...
Currently taking barber course. Today we did a classic french hair cut 💇♂️ thank you for this! Tomorrow I will try this technique on my poor mannequin 😂
Im a barber and at first I was like "this is bullshit." "He literally doesn't even know where the proper "two line" goes" But then I was really amazed how he only used shears and realized he is obviously a cosmo who cuts like a cosmo, so there are things I can take but also bad I can spit out. But more importantly things I can take. Made me wanna work on my shear work.
Excellent vidéo. Some gentle critique on this. I noticed you have trouble talking at the same time as cutting sometimes- it’s better to record in silence and then do a voice over. Also for the top section that is not short to long its square but naturally a bit longer at the front hairline due to the head shape. Please post more of these, your work is good and you’re pretty lol
Best part of the tutorial was the point cutting to blend the sides. My clients want out of the chair in 20 mins or less. I would have used a clipper on that cut. And wouldn't have blow-dried it either. Just dry grooming cream and style. Out-the-door!
Hey sorry maybe I’m nitpicking but I don’t feel both sides were fading evenly. Left side sideburns had more length than the right side and right side of temple was brought closer to the skin.
Nice video super don't you think doing the line up all around look better? Or you doing the old school barber technique thanks I'm learning a lot Very nice
Good instructional video. Calm relaxed voice too. Next time wear contrasting color to hair color so we can see it better. Dark fabric behind dark hair can sometimes make it hard to follow. Otherwise great video. Thanks!
i've been watching a lot of scissors over comb and clipper over comb tutorials , and almost all of them starts with a horseshoe section , but here is where my question is , half of them start the guide at the sides half of them start at the back. and for the top some start at the fringe , some start just before the crown... im a left hander and im really confused i hope someone can help me out here ! Cheers!
Hello and thanks for the education videos they are awesome for me as a student on Mens hairdressing also if u don’t mind me to ask you on what are your scissors brand ? They look super smooth cutting and sharp, always good to ask on the professional and experienced haidresser.thanks
Hi Kushtrim, It's hard to explain without a visual example but as long as your moving in a consistent motion with your comb in a C manner you can have your shears as close as you want to your comb without maintaining any distance and you won't have any line.
Awesome job again ! I watched almost all of your videos and I am wondering what you mean by cutting ''square''. Initially, I thought you were referring to square layers shape around the head but I realize that it is not always what you do. Do you mean cutting square between your fingers (i.e. parallel to the head) ? Also, are you working in Montreal (your have a little bit of a francophone accent...) ? Thanks for the great work !
Hey Pierre, Are you talking about the top part being cut squared? Because I do mean square to the head, I am not too sure which part of the video you are referring to. And yes, our salon is based in Montreal. www.jonathansalon.ca Thx again for your great feedback! much appreciated! Cheers,
Hey Jonathan, you mean cutting a square panel at 90 degrees from the head or do you mean cutting each section (i.e. side, back, front, top) in the shape of a box (all the section at 90 degrees from each other with a travelling guide) like you explain in your video showing square layers or just one section in the shape of a square (i.e. just the side at 90 degrees uniform layering ? You're referring to it at 3 min 08. Also, it would be great for you to show a video with round layers in order to contrast it with square layers...
Oh yes, I see now, I was referring to the initial baseline guide to be cut a square panel to the head, to keep all the sections squared without rounding, but that's only for the sides and back on this haircut, the top is cut from short to long as you probably seen. The video with squared layers is cut squared in the shape of a box on the whole cut, hope it helps!
this a good way tho teach people, but there is one thing wrong, the back of the neck is call the nape and people get nape well, sorry but its not called a cowlick, you get them on the front of the forehead, other than that good video
Just curious, why not use a razor to clean the back? Also, what shears are being used and what is the cost of them? There is an ad for ICE shears for less than $10 which is almost laughable. I purchased some ICE shears approximately 10 yrs, ago and at the time the cost was approx. $400. I'm tempted to purchase some of these cheapies just to see what kind of quality they have. Does anyone own or have owned some ICE shears and how much did you pay for them,,,,,,approximately? Did you like them or was it one of those 'you get what you pay for' situations? Thanks for your time.
Thank you for sharing! I am a cos n I am trying to pick up barber technique. Question pls when n where on the head , we are angle the comb or square ? Thank you again
Such a great video omg!!! I'm in cosmetology school and this made the scissor over comb technique seem sooooo much easier!!
Thank you Kemari, I am happy it made it easier for you. More videos to come!

Thank you for teaching. Small advice, wear a light shirt if you make a take with a guy with dark hair. Now often you can't see it that well because both are dark and there is minor contrast.
best scissor-over-comb instructional video
Thanks Ronin, that is very rewarding to hear, I am happy you found the video instructional!
Beautiful work! :)
Thank you for sharing, this is such a clear and amazing tutorial. Using a contrasting coloured comb also made it a lot easier to see. I'm only worried I might take out uneven chunks of hair while doing the scissor over comb technique!
It's my pleasure CW!
Just go slowly in the beginning and keep your comb far from the scalp to avoid uneven chunks.
Cheers!
Very nice. I love hair cuts using scissors only. It takes a lot more skill and experience. Clippers is so much easier and very little training
I wish all hairdressers only used scissors. They use clippers because it is quicker and so much easier but cutting with scissors looks miles better in my opinion.Clippers requires very little skill or training in comparison
I learned a lot here. The best video so far I’ve seen on a RUclips to cut hair.

Thank you, scissor over comb takes a lot practice, but it's worth it!

Paco diop totally agree. I think you can also chage the angles of the camera so it shows with details exactly what you are cutting.
NICE CUT !!!

Just sprayed water beforehand.
thank for the tip, what type of scissors do you recommed?

I use Kasho shears.
Never heard about ICE shears.

What are the brands and types of the 3 combs you used?
Thank you for sharing! I am a cos n I am trying to pick up barber technique. Question pls when n where on the head , we are angle the comb or square ?
Thank you again
Hi Anh,
Thank you for watching, it's square.
Not sure if it's been mentioned, but when the stylist wears clothing the same color as the model's hair, it makes it really hard to see the progress.
Video rico em aprendizado
Gracias senior levi!
