I found out recently (thanks to GuyRex Legacy Channel for posting Miss Texas USA 1995) that Sushmita Sen was there to crown Chelsi when she won her state title. Very unusual as I thought Miss Universe would usually attend NATIONAL pageants, not on the state level. Furthermore, Margaret Gardiner was also there as co-host. I wonder if the presence of two MIss Universes shifted destiny to Chelsi so she would ultimately wins MU.

And yes, she's quite intelligent, spontaneous and witty, and she also displayed this early on during the Miss Teen USA 1992 pageant when she made the semifinals.

It was only during this time in the mid-90s in all of the Miss Universe Organization pageants, that they began to place the host state or host country's candidate at the very end of the introduction parade.

Judges Kole and Loughery gave Miss Texas a 9.99 in every portion (Swimsuit, Interview, Evening Gown, and Top 6 Q&A) and they didn't do this for anyone else. They must have made some kind of pact. But still, she deserved to win.

In my humble opinion, the intelligent miss, with great bearing, distinction, class and beauty were and will be Chelsi Smith and Carolina Gómez Correa (who remained universal viceroy and who should have won Miss Universe at that time and have given the crown to Chelsi Smith). IMHO!

Shanna Moakler should have return home to Rhode Island to compete for Miss RI USA. She was lucky to take Chelsi Smith’s place as Miss USA 1995
