1:53 that's because "Kamehame" doesn't have a meaning (the "turtle destrutive wave" some people try to push is false), Toriyama just wanted something easy to remember that started with Kame and his wife suggested Kamhameha, which was the name of a famous Hawaian king, which also fits with Roshi always wearing hawaiian shirt.

This is one of the biggest dragon ball myths. Along with the dbz should have ended in the namek saga.
Turtle Disctructive wave came first. Then Miss Toriyama said “hey, it sound just like the hawaii king”.
      Not the other way round

    • @99Gara99
      @99Gara99 2 месяца назад +2

@@Majinbeck_exe actually it's the other way around
It's obvious the story was meant to end in namek, it may just not be confirmed, which is also for obvious reasons, the creators (author and editor) wouldn't open up that they are just stretching a story that is finished
And kamehameha was chosen for for toriyama thought it sounded good and yes, he was aware it was a hawaiian emperor (before the American coup d'etat). Kame and ha happen to mean turtle and wave, respectively, but no, it doesn't mean destructive turtle wave or anything like that, that's just western fans trying to guess from the little Japanese they know

@@99Gara99 dragon ball fans like you are the worst. People who watched it on a calculator and skipped the first series. Honestly, it was stated nowhere that it was meant to end. Plus, in an interview, Toriyama said “I felt like the cell arc was not a proper ending, thus, I wanted to write a final arc where I do what I want.” Sure it’s not the freezer arc but it’s good evidence.
I’m not gonna waste my time talking to a fake db fan like yourself as you probs only watch it for the cool colors and explosions

The King of Hawaii, before it was annexed by America, was named King Kamehameha. Hawaii is also a small set of islands not unlike the setting around Muten Roshi's abode. The funnier thing about him is that Muten means master, and Roshi also means master. He is the Master Master. That is his name. Fitting he would be named after a king.

5:19 I know it’s a running gag in the community for piccolo to be a father figure to gohan but he’s really more of a big brother or uncle. I don’t think most people realize that they are only 4 years apart.

Cal him Muten Roshi or Master Roshi, but never Master Muten Roshi, as Master Muten Roshi is redundant and basically is calling him Master Old Teacher or Master Master.

Full of lots of interesting information, but I imagine the AI voice will be a turn off for many.
The AI mispronounces many names as well, which can be rough on the ears of a long time fan of the series.

10:18 this makes me think of Akuma from Street Fighter who uses the 瞬獄殺(Shun Goku Satsu) or Instant Hell Kill or in the US we call it his “Raging Demon” and also when he performs this move he usually says “滅殺” or “Messatsu” and in English means “Annihilation”

I know Japanese and I never understood what the kanji in kaio was. I thought maybe it was one of those obscure kanjis that no one knows. But I would have never realized that it was kai + oh.

I know you can't take one's personal knowledge for granted because it's a big world with a lot to learn, but for me, it can't help but feel like you explaining what the M on Mario's cap means.
Don't mind my engagement comment though, this is a good niche and you are doing a public service.

界 means limit, boundary or the realm within boundaries. So Kaio means King of the Realm or King of the Boundary. In the story both meanings make sense. Also, King of the Limit could actually make sense as well, as Goku is there to break the limit of the living.

You do know Piccolo is like 4/5 years older than Gohan. And that they have basically a Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson dynamic? Brothers would be better than father and son.

The way you say the names is painfully awful sometimes, but I do thank you for teaching what these Kanji means. I once heard that the symbol worn on Goku's GI after his x100 G training, means "enlightenment." This is not far from what you said but I am glad to find out the real meaning. DB is my favorite anime to watch and I have the first 9 volumes of the manga to enjoy. Uncolored but still awesome I fell inlove with it.

In King Piccolo saga, when he becomes young again thanks to Shenron, he claims the title of king of the world, and then criminals all over the world start to mess up. A group of them, before facing Android 8, try to use Piccolo's kanji, but they are illiterate and write a different one. I really would like to know what those wrong kanjis mean 😄I expect there's a joke...
