+Jessica Smith I usually divide the number in its constituents of tens, hundreds and thousands. So 860 becomes 800 + 60. I do a quarter (25%) of each, which gives 200 and 15 respectively, then just sum them back together to give 215. Another example would be 20% of 1485. It becomes (20% of 1000) + (20% of 400) + (20% of 80) + (20% of 5) = 200 + 80 + 16 + 1 = 297 Got it?
My Korean mother in law is excellent with math despite only having gone to school up to 5th grade. She came to America when she was a teenager, and owned her own beauty salon by 21 years of age. She knows math because she knows money! She taught me this trick one day when I was trying to calculate how much to tip at a restaurant.
Exactly my point! My math skills are the only thing that has held me back from my goals in life. Math, I think anyway, is the most important in life skills, math is everywhere and everything. I learn it okay, but I lose it just as fast! I remember checking out a book from my school library titled "How to Overcome Math Anxiety", when I was in the 9th grade.Needless to say, didn't help. I've had to rely on my stronger attributes to, just like you say, "stumble through life." Someone told me that I read too much into the equations, maybe that's it, maybe I just can't see the forest for the trees.

On the last question 85% of 620. I found the easier way for me was to find the 50% of 620 which was 310. I then found the 10% and 5% of 620 which was 62 (10%) and 31 (5%).I multiplied 62 by 3 to get the 30% of 620. Added these together. Now I had 80% of 620 which is 186. Add 186 to 31 (5%) and 310. You get 527. 85% of 620. Hopefully this helped some.

25% of 860 - would you not just half it, and then half it again (if we are trying to keep it simple)?
+Jessica Smith That's what I did, to try to keep it simple and follow a simular path to the 5% method of taking 10% and halfing it.
+Jessica Smith I usually divide the number in its constituents of tens, hundreds and thousands. So 860 becomes 800 + 60. I do a quarter (25%) of each, which gives 200 and 15 respectively, then just sum them back together to give 215.

@@Crickz73 do you even know me to say that? 😂😂😂
Passion_4_running I don’t need to know you. I can see it by the way you are talking about others.
Just when I thought I was understanding. You lost me when you threw in that -5 on problem 95% of 720.
Hi, all he did was take 5% off the full number( which would be 100% of the number) to get 95% of it.
@@casper9900 ily :) Thank you.
Math is fun when u think a lot...
Think.. think..think... U ll get it
I am half in the bag right now and I can still do this mentally because of this guys calm voice.
Anyone watching in 2019????
2020 cause IM DUMBBb
Easier:
100% = 80
15% of 80 = ??
.15 • 80= 12
• = multiplication sign (if you didn’t know)
We have a math competition tomorrow and I'd didn't know how to solve this and now this really helped me thank u so much
im learning more in this ten minute vid then i do in a double maths lesson
lol ive been doing this trick naturally since i was younger bc i never learned the proper way
+XiferTehPenguin you're a badass
+aris paxa lol ik
+XiferTehPenguin please can you tell me how to solve it....
mariam mohamed ?
Lol same I thought I was lazy for doing it😂
I’m am absolutely delighted I’ve found your channel 🤩👌🏼
An easier way=
Eg. 45% of 3600= 45x3600=162000
162000 divided by 100 = 1620 therefore 1620 is 40% of 3600
cant hear you. I want you to speak louder and clearly
Helooooo!.
Kharei Kong
Turn your hearing aid up grandpa the math is what your looking for.
lol turn on captions like I did
Kharei Konghar q
lol. Im watching 1 week before math exam
Thank you so much!! You helped me a lot! Now I’m feeling proud of myself for answering them all correct:)
I've been doing this for soo long since year 4 (grade 3)
Congrats. You must feel real special for telling us folk on the internet.
I already know how to do this, but I was looking for a question like something like 74% of 400 let’s say😂
Simple 74% is 7x 10% and 4x1%, add them up so, 10%=40 and 1%=4, so7x 40 = 280 and 4x4=16, add those and answer is 296.
74x400=29,600 so 29,600/100= 296... Simple :0
Same I was so bored and wanted to do some mental maths but wasn’t thinking of any number lol. What I’m scared is the people that tried helping you in the comments I’m so confused on how they might know maths but clearly don’t know how to read
74*4=296. Just move the zeros from 400
I found a even better way for 55% of 360, why not do 0.55x360=198. It works for all percentages btw.
