Seth's guitarist, Jack Rutter, has his own band Moore, Moss, and Rutter who are incredible. They won the BBC Young Folk Award a few years ago. They write amazingly beautiful tunes and the occasional arrangement of trad songs, definitely worth listening to and trying to see live if you can :)
I was smiling throughout this video. This is how I feel at folk music concerts--at grand venues strewn with red velvet and gold cherubim, where they sing miserable songs about loves lost in the 18th century, where the median age is 65, I am absolutely jubilant. Folk is honest, raw, but it's also playful. I'm so glad you get it.
I love Seth Lakeman!! I saw him live last month and it was just like fifteen elderly people and me and my boyfriend in a piping centre and it was AMAZING. It was just him without a band and he played a lot of acoustic stuff and it felt so personal. I agree so much with everything you say about his music.
I've seen Seth Lakeman both with his band and performing solo and his solo set was also completely wonderful. He closed with Kitty Jay and broke half the hairs on his bow basically setting fire to his violin, what a dude
definitely gonna go and listen to Seth Lakeman right now cause the way you describe him reminds me a lot of my all time favorite musician Josh Ritter. i guess musically, Ritter could also be placed under the genre of (American) folk (or americana more precisely) and his songs also deal with themes bigger than him/personal experience. some of my favorites are songs like Girl in the War which is a discussion between St. Peter and St. Paul about god and war, or Wings that tells the story of American expansion towards the west, or Thin Blue Flame which is a song so complex and beautiful, filled with literay references, discussions about god and war and the state of the world, that i could spend the rest of my life trying to completely understand it. i absolutely love music like this, the kind that takes on bigger themes than just personal experiences and yet have the ability to make it universal and emotional. we need more stuff like this. so thanks for the insightful recommendation!
This was such a great and interesting video! Please do make more videos on creativity, I'd love to hear more tips on actually doing the creative things you have in your head and being content with it as is and not feeling like it has to be new or perfect
saw the thumbnail and the shirt, though this was gonna be about Tessa Violet inspiring you hahah :P wonderful video, i think sometimes people don't value inspiration enough and you described the process of this artist inspiring you so nicely. def gonna have to hear more of his stuff, you sold it!
I tried making a video about inspiration and motivation a month or so ago, but it wasn't as specific as this was. I think the specificity of this made it so that it had a more unique take on the topic.

I love seth lakeman, I grew up going to English folk festivals and after some teenage years of hating the genre I now love it again
He played at one of the festivals when I was 10 (2008) and again in 2009 and was wonderful both times
Oh my god Seth Lakeman! I used to listen to him back in the days of Hearts and Minds and I have no idea why I stopped!
Never heard of Seth. He's really good. Thanks for the links :)

I love Seth Lakeman too! plus the first and second clips you used from his concert are my favourite songs. ps. i really love what you said too ❤
His music makes me want to set off on some mystical adventure full of twist and turns and panning shots over wide open oceans and massive fields.

aw i went to a classical music concert with my girlfriend at cadogan hall the first time i met her in person, it's such a nice little venue!
This is beautiful.
Please do a podcast! Your voice is amazing.
Check out Kishi Bashi!! He's an asian-American who also creates music based off the violin, it really is incredible. (the album 151A is really nice)
Queen!
The more I watch your videos/see your posts on social media makes me think we would get along if we hung out 👏🏼
If you like metal music, you should check out Sabaton. They write music entirely based on historical events and are amazing. Also, I love this video.
English folk = Richard Thompson
(Beeswing)
Seth Lakeman reminds me of the English band The Levellers. Has anybody else listened to them?
great vid! ((you wrote eleveth* on bio btw))
what was the name of the opening act?
Do you know the unthanks? folk in traditional Geordie
So Why Do this? Why go on with yourself and not say anything when people ask you?
