    Winds me up so much how we cyclists get milked for cash at every opportunity. Want GPS for your car? Peanuts. The extras they need to add do no way justify the several hundred pounds they add to the price. A decent cheap cycling computer can be had for 50 quid. Add a full gamin GPS system they should be under 200 for the top models. But when they see there are people out there prepared to pay hundreds for a set of cleats, or a new helmet which supposedly makes you faster, then we get what we deserve. The attitude of cyclists needs to change, they cash in on our one upmanship of other riders. The snobbery in lots of cycling clubs has put me off for life, I've seen people laughing behind other people's backs because they are riding cheap cycles, we can't all afford to go spend thousands on a new bike, which, if we're honest, makes very little difference to your Sunday rider. You could buy a second hand car and motorbike and still have change for the prices we are being asked to pay. It's ridiculous.

      This applies to many people, not just cyclists, consumerism is a real issue, everyone is after the next new thing which offers next to nothing to what you already own

    Why is it that Bryton is always skipped in these type of reviews? My Bryton Rider 530 is such a great cycling computer....well made, water proof, durable, 33 hour battery life, large screen, instant transfer of rides to Strava through wifi, easy to use and one of the most affordable.

    For Lezyne, Ludo bikes is at a mile from my door and they should do something extra to promote some of your beautiful products. They do Granville too and it seems to me we see less of those bikes on our roads. They concentrated on fleet bike parcs lately.For me Lezyne tyre repair kits , pumps and lights and bell should be standard at any local bike shops which isn't the case. If I were to buy a new quality pump I would look for a Zéfal pump and not for a Lezyne cuz I don't know it but I'm sure it is worth its money. The organizers are also very sleek and many people go on a bike vacation over here. To stay in the terminology they have to pump it up over here!

    Sorry, I think I missed the cycling computer in this lineup... all I saw were _NAVIGATION COMPUTERS._ It's a bicycle, not a fighter jet... if I want a navigation aid I'll take a map and strap a compass to my handlebars, I don't need a GPS signal to tell me how fast I'm moving.

    I think the Elemnt Bolt belongs right there at number two, and I know you guys are trying to be nice to Lezyne but the larger Elemnt belongs right at number three if not tied with the Bolt for number two. I thought of replacing my aging Garmin 810 with a 1030, but after handling a few at the shop I became unimpressed by the capacitive touchscreen. The old resistive touchscreen on my five year old 810 is more responsive! Also, I just don’t see the 1030 as providing enough positive user experience over the Wahoo Elemnt for the price difference.

      You are exactly right. My Garmin 25: I used mine for over 5,000 miles and it has worked but the battery dies in less than 5 hours and if it is cold, the battery dies in about 3 hours. When you plug it in to recharge on the road using your power bank, everything goes back to zero again. Also, it is not perfect in partnership with the GarminConnect app. If your ride is longer than 3 hours, do NOT go with this model. SOLUTION: It needs to be re-engineered with a mini-USB connector port so that you can have it CONTINUALLY plugged in while you are navigating. IT does have a strange connector port but you CANNOT use the mounting bracket if you have it plugged in to your power source.

    I want the bike computer developers to think about the following safety issue we encounter on Belgian roads. The code of conduct allows bikers (amateur Lance Armstrongs) to ride with two or more next to another in builded areas. They do that while brabbeling ie they can't ride after another never ever. That makes the road very hazardous when you are in a car. Now if that computer has a GPS on it knowing where are the builded areas it can give a sonoric sign when a car comes up driving in their ass and it can give a new sonoric sign when they leave the legally defined builded area and should ride after another. No? All car conducters are completely fed up with amateur cyclists not giving way and they are legally held to a side distance of 40 inch which makes it impossible to pass. On this a bicycle rider is legally seen as a weak traffic participant and thus has all the rights in case of a treffic accident he is involved in. You could call that bike rider terror. All you have to do is upload a Coyote speed indication file on your computer and define the builded areas. Maybe a rider could personalize the sound of that sign....No?

    I've had a Garmin Edge 25 for over a year now, and it has been very disappointing. Battery life is barely better than some phones, (Worse than others.) It takes up to 10 minutes to get a GPS signal. It absolutely refuses to send the ride to Strava until I plug it into my PC, (I've had some rides take up to two weeks to appear.) There's no way to force upload the ride. It took over 6 months for the included Cadence sensor to start functioning. When I do finally get the ride to go to Strava, it disables the post-to-facebook function of Strava. And despite being told that I can decide what information it displays, there is no setting that will allow me to see heart rate and cadence at the same time. It's utter crap, and I wish I hadn't bought it.

      NoBrakes23 I had one for two days, returned it and got a garmin vivoactive hr. Does everything the edge 25 could do and more. Battery life and built in heart rate sensor are awesome. I didn't want a unit as bulky as the 520, so this is a perfect fit for me.

      Well you are either bad at using it or have a faulty piece of kit because my experience of a 25 is that it functions fine, all be it on a smaller screen than I want

      Mine worked fine out of the box with all my sensors.
      I’ve never read the instructions though.
      Use common sense - take it back or check for an update.
      Would you buy a TV and then complain on here that it’s never worked?
      Take the thing back for an exchange or refund you dodo!

      Garmin and Polars, I suppose. Problem is, they get it from sponsors so they don't care too much about longterm reliability. Also, most of the pros training (even MTB riders) is done on road where you hardly ever lose signal even with cheap smartphone.

    • @neilhendley1119
      @neilhendley1119 6 лет назад

      With my 505, underside of screen fogged up in humid/wet conditions, poor battery life and difficult to see in direct sunlight. Now using the Elemnt Bolt which I find is superior with exception of the "Quicklook LED's" which are also hard to see in direct sunlight making it a useless bling feature in an otherwise good device.

      Bryton was definitely mentioned in discussions around this Top 5, but ultimately it was squeezed out, as is so often the way for deserving brands. We should really think about starting to do Top 6 videos...

    Garmin 25: I used mine for over 5,000 miles and it has worked but the battery dies in less than 5 hours and if it is cold, the battery dies in about 3 hours.

    • @MaxPaws
      @MaxPaws 6 лет назад +1

      Thim Here’s why it isn’t...
      1. The battery life can’t compete with the bike-specific devices.
      2. In the sun, it will overheat and shut itself off.

    • @Check6Six6
      @Check6Six6 6 лет назад +1

      If you only use Google Maps offline, no Bluetooth and without a thick rubber cover, it won't overheat here in Canada, even in the sun. Farther south might be a different story but it would have to be a really hot day. Just the cooling from the riding should keep it within operating temperature. And unless you use an old phone, the battery life should be plenty for a day of use, again using offline mapping. I use a Samsung S9+ and it can go for a full day without any problem.

      Guys Im using my phone and Strava to ride. I always make route on Strava on my PC and then just display it on phone and record how I'm riding. And I don't need my display to shine all the time. Just check the route every few minutes. 2 days ago I did a 100km 6 hour ride, screen on time 2 hours, bluetooth music speaker connected all time and my phone consumed only 60% of battery. And also it's very hot there (37C) and I have a screenshot when my phone had 55C battery temperature, no problems. Maybe the battery will get bad faster, but already have this phone nearly 2 years and its still ok. Xiaomi Redmi 3S

  • @Check6Six6
    @Check6Six6 6 лет назад

    Dorky having a phone on your bike? Really? Google Maps is free with your phone AND has all the bike trails overlay. I have the Samsung S9+ so it has a BIG color screen. It should be number one on your list. I use the Samsung Health app with it when I go biking. Again, it's free and it's much more user friendly and informative than Strava.

    Garmin is like the Homer Car of bike computers. The software is absolute trash, I can’t even believe it’s a released product. Literally no comparison between the Wahoo Elemnt Roam and the Garmin 1030+. It’s like if Wahoo was Apple, Garmin would be HP and the software was created by the call center in India. It’s complete garbage, wow, did I mention how bad it is?! Garmin is NOT good.
