In cities, evolution occurs constantly, as countless plants, animals and insects adapt to human-made habitats in spectacular ways. Evolutionary biologist Menno Schilthuizen calls on peculiar beings such as fast food-loving mice and self-cooling snails to illustrate the ever-transforming wonders of urban wildlife -- and explains how you can observe this phenomenon in real-time, thanks to a global network of enthusiastic citizen scientists.

Humans are not destroying their habitat, we as a species have always made our won habitat, we have always found ways to take more do more with what we have. It is unfortunate in my opinion, but you don't need Beatles mosquitoes or other living creatures around forever in order for us to survive or thrive for that matter. Nonetheless, there are some essential creatures. however, the more technology develops the less relevant they become.
Think of this. We are trying to live on the moon.

@@nedrapaul4135 Of course humans destroy the habitats of other creatures, there's no sense denying that. We have yet to find a way to build our own habitats without damaging the ecosystems we come into contact with. As for your claims that there are creatures we could survive without, and that there are "some essential creatures" but that their relevance is somehow diminished by technological progress, I think you'd be hard-pressed to find any verifiable evidence to support them. We've never existed in a world without mosquitoes or beetles, we have no idea what ecological imbalances the lack of these creatures would cause, or whether we could offset those imbalances through technology alone. We're still a long way from off-world colonies, the fact that we're trying to build them doesn't mean we can at this point, or that we'd be able to sustain them without other forms of life.

Citizen science is the voluntary involvement of the public in scientific research. Citizen scientists can help design experiments, collect data, analyze results, and solve problems. Their work helps professional scientists and resource managers understand parks. Their data help solve real problems and answer real questions. In a nutshell, citizen science is science.
Citizenship in ancient Rome (Latin: civitas) was a privileged political and legal status afforded to free individuals with respect to laws, property, and governance.. A male Roman citizen enjoyed a wide range of privileges and protections defined in detail by the Roman state. A citizen could, under certain exceptional circumstances, be deprived of his citizenship.
Citizenship in the Early Republic. After the collapse of the old monarchy and the foundation of the Republic, the control of Roman government was restricted to a handful of great families - the patricians, a word derived from patres or 'fathers'. The remaining residents/citizens were called plebians, representing the poor as well as many of the city's wealthy.

I think it may depend on the scope through which the "manipulation" is being observed. On a macroscopic scale, as in this video, it seems evolution can be purposefully manipulated. However, since evolution is the result of random DNA mutations, at it's core, it can't be manipulated. Thoughts?

What? Just simply study the growth even of one single generation of humans. We get taller and taller, and most of them get fatter as well, while fingers are getting thinner.

Genetic change in populations is the definition of evolution. So yeah, it is evolution.

In today's politically correct world, they say we shouldn't hurt anyone's feelings. No room for jokes. But it is absolutely correct to ruin our ecosystem? That's screwed up. We can't change what has happened but we can prevent the future damage. One change at a time. Like this so everyone can see it.
