    My Father was a Carson Raider.... finally wounded in Okinawa at the battle of Sugar Loaf Hill...one of the bloodiest...

    I'd say the raid was successful, Admiral Nimitz said himself it served its purpose..

      It didn’t serve its purpose. It was meant to divert troops from Guadalcanal. No Japanese troops really moved off of the island as a result of the raid. But the island was eventually retaken. The success was in the form of the island garrison’s elimination, all (around 40) Japanese troops were killed.
