I joined the USMC in Dec 1972. My father and stepfather had been Marines. My father survived Iwo Jima with two injuries. He had been a mortarman. After the USA began the occupation of Japan, my father served on Kyushu Island as an MP. My stepfather survived the conflict in Korea. They're both gone now, but my respect and admiration for them both has never diminished. Mr. Williams ALSO deserves my respect and admiration - SEMPER FI !!! :-)
Woody is one of the most amazing gentlemen I've ever met. Sharp as a whip, kind, humble, and with a handshake like a steel vise! Happy Memorial Day to him, and all our fighting men and women. 🇺🇸
You are all super heroes, my father included. You are why we are still the greatest Country ever . Thank you is not even enough words for your service. My father told me many stories about WW2 I will always cherish.
It is unbelievable what these men did and went through in WW2! As a young navy brat living in Coronado, CA in the 60's, our neighbor, an elderly lady who happened to see me sitting outside sweating after a football game, invited me into her beautiful Spanish style house on Alameda Blvd. While waiting for her to bring me a cold drink, I noticed a portrait on her living room wall and a table beneath it on which was a framed medal of Honor. I asked her about it and she said it was her son and he had been on the USS Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor. He had organized a group of sailors to manually pass up ammunition from the forward magazine when it was struck by a Japanese bomb. I was only 9 at the time, but I knew the significance of what he had done and his ultimate sacrifice. I'll never forget that day, it was special to spend some time with this wonderful and kind woman whose son had been taken from her...never forget.
