Great video, i travel to Italy in July and want to fly my Mavic 3 and Avata will the A1.A3 cover me to fly my drones legally in Italy?
Hey there! Yes! Starting 01/01/2024 there is a new regulation with some additional categories. In this case both the Avata and the Mavic 3 are under 900gr. See as follow:
>>Subcategory: A1 (can also fly in subcategory A3)
>>Operational restrictions:
1. No flight expected over uninvolved people (if it happens, overflight should be minimised);
2. No flight over assemblies of people;
3. Maintain flight altitude below 120m above ground level.
>>Drone operator registration: Yes
>>Remote pilot competence
1. Read carefully the user manual
2. Obtain a ‘Proof of completion for online training’ for A1/A3 ‘open’ subcategory by:
2a. Completing the online training
2b. Passing the online theoretical exam

An hour later than I watched this video, I passed the Remote Pilot Certification Examination. Thanks a ton !!

Just want to say a HUGE thank you! I watched your video around lunchtime, took the course and passed just now. I'm blown away and will pass on your info to my friends. A sub is all I can give you back, however. You have my gratitude, sir.

I sighned up for the course
Nice! Did you get your certification?
@@connectionearth yes
I took the A1/A3 exam in Germany, I have to start A2 some time soon.
Was also for free.
Great! Thanks fo sharing!
I got my certificate via Luxembourg in 2021 and I believe I got it in 1 evening. So weeks studying? But indeed, you don’t need it for the DJI Mini Pro 3 or 4, but it’s always handy to show people that you are a licensed drone flyer, even if it’s not really neccessary 👍
Very informative!! I am traveling to Europe(France, Swiss and Italy) next month, for mini 4 pro, do we still need to register ?
Yes, you should register as a drone operator in the first country where you intend to fly your drone. Better to have an insurance as well if you plan to fly in busy areas. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you so much for the video. The video is very informative and I managed to get my certificate within a few hours.
Awesome! Enjoy your flights!
Hello! Great video, very informative, thank you! My wife and I live in the United States. We are visiting Italy at the end of the month and just purchased a DJI MINI 4 PRO. According to this video, we only need to register the drone in the US- Do you still recommend we complete the drone pilot license just to be safe? The drone is less than 250 grams. Thanks!
If you arelying your drone in Italy, you need to register the drone on the Italian D-flight portal: www.d-flight.it/new_portal/en/services/registrazione-e-gestione-account/
No need for you to take the pilot license but you should register as a drone operator - see link above. Make sure to have an insurance to cover the drone.
You legend! this was great information and very easy to follow. Thank you
Awesome thanks! ✌🏻✌🏻
Great Video. Very clear and concise. Having completed and received the A1/A3 proof of completion of online training, what is the process to apply to be a Drone Operator and Drone Pilot?
Thanks! Drone operator you need to register in the country of residence or the country you intend to travel. For the pilot, as soon as you complete the training. 🤗
Ciao @pierroundtheworld ! Thank you for the detailed video :D. I have a few questions. I have a DJI Mini 3, and:
1. I am a resident in Italy and will be registering myself as a drone operator in Italy with ENAC /D-flight. Can I still take the remote pilot competency certificate exam in Luxembourg without facing any problems in italy?
2. I will fly for recreational/fun purpose only. DO i still need a certificate?
3. Any recommendation on where I can take the insurance for Open Category?
Grazie mille
Thanks man! 🎉 see the reply below:
1. No issues if you take the Luxembourg one.
2. Because the Mini 3 is less than 250gr you are not forced to take it but I suggest you to do so to fly with more confidence.
3. I used Coverdrone
Cheers!
Bro I am living in Italy and pass this test now I have same questions like you .because in Italy the official web site EASA TAKING FEE FOR exam so I have doubts about this license is it’s works in Italy ? I have air3 and drove cover insurance for one year

Thanks Seba! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you for detailed video. Got my cert
Awesome!
Thank you for this informative video. Do I have to go to/be in Luxembourg if I want to register my drone there? I live in France.
As you live in France you have to register there. I did mine this morning on the French site was easy and took a few minutes
I did exactly the same thing. I live in the UK, so have our CAA CoC and Registration. But as I also spend quite a lot of time in Poland, I did the online test with Luxembourg. Once I had my Certificate of Competency, I sent a copy to the Polish CAA who then issued me with a Polish registration number to display on my drone.
Thanks, im moving to italy was very helpful
Thank you so much. I will be going to Poland so you helped me and I believe I can take my mini 3 pro and fly there

Grazie mille for your video. I've been being in Italia 2 times every year and plan to fly a drone next time just for fun with C0 or C1 labelled one.
The biggest barrier is no way to get an insurance.
I can't find any Insurance offer for foreigners who are not ue or canadian, us citizen.
It's not a good idea to fly a drone in abroad without the proper insurance option, even though it's not a mandatory condition.
(afaik, in Italy, it's a mandatory anyway)
I agree man! Always good to have insurance. Have you checked Coverdrone?
@@connectionearth afaik Coverdrone only accepts for UE/CA/AU/NZ citizen, not for any others.
Up to now, I didn't find any solution so I gave up :/
Anyway your video is very helpful and clear, Grazie
Great information! Thanks for sharing!
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 thanks!
Thank you! :) still didn't understand: when I fly my own drone, I'm pilot AND operator. So do I have to register in my residence country? Or can I take the exam in Luxembourg and then register afterwards in Switzerland (where I currently live)?
Thanks 🙏🏻 Yes, you should register yourself as an operator in your country of own residence. I am an Italia operator but I do have a drone pilot from Luxembourg (recognized across all EU). First take the exam, and then become an operator.
Brilliant thank you. I watched your video and went to the site you listed . Did the course this afternoon and passed the exam. Now the proud owner of the A1 + A3 certificate. Now need my A2 but Luxembourg bit of a drive for a classroom exam.
Thanks so much! 👏🏻👏🏻🎉
exam is simple and online
Great job! Thank you!
Pierre. I got my certification with the Luxembourg site. ( same as you)
My question is; once you have it, do you need to register your drone ? In Canada we have to register it with serial number etc…
I’m confused. Hope you can help jerome from canada
Hey Jerome, thanks! Here you will find the answer:
"All drone operations conducted in the EASA Member States must comply with the Drone Regulation, no matter what the nationality of the operator or remote pilot is. Therefore, as a non-EU resident, you are also required to register with the National Aviation Authority of the first EU country where you intend to operate.
You will then be issued with a ‘drone operator registration number’ that needs to be displayed with a sticker on all the drones you own. You must also upload it into the ‘remote identification system’ of your drone(s).
Once registered in the host country, the drone operator’s registration will be valid across Europe and the operator will be required to follow all the provisions of the Drone Regulation."

Hey Patrick, thanks for the message. The D-flight will release you a QR code that you need to stick to the drone. In case of any issue (you damage something, you hit a person etc) the QR code will make your drone identifiable.
Very nice video. I got my certificate. Can you recommend any insurers? I have a Mavic 3 and I use it for fun. Thanks

“If you are a resident of a non-EASA Member State and plan to visit and operate a drone in an EASA Member State, you need to register as a drone operator with the National Aviation Authority of the first EASA state you intend to operate from.
Once you are registered in your host EASA Member State, this will be valid across the rest of EASA Member States. You don’t need to register in another EASA Member State again.
You also need to train and pass the drone pilot’s certificate online exam and get the European certificate in any EASA Member State. Some National Aviation Authorities offer the training and exam in English.
And of course, you need to comply with the European Drone regulations.”

Here is the answer directly from the EASA:
www.easa.europa.eu/en/faq/136863
Thank for the info! One Question. I need to enter the UAS Operator info to obtain the QR Code but it seems to require an spid to validate my documents. I don't have that as I am not an Italian citizen. Do you know how we proceed past that on D-flight?
Hey Kevin, the D-Flight is the portal to become a drone operator in Italy only. If you are looking to become a drone operator in your own country you should follow the National rules.
If you are living in Italy and have a “Codice Fiscale” you might be able to request the SPID (an authentication system).
@@connectionearth I am visiting Italy for a 3 week vacation starting in Sept. Thus I need to have my drone registered along with obtaining the A1-A3 license. After discussions with many (ENAC, D-flight, EASA, and people like yourself) I have finally figured out the process. It took a lot of effort though and your video helped. It seems I need to send in my personal documentation of verification (like DL, Passport, etc.) via email to D-flight registration. Since I am not an Italian Citizen I can't finalize the registration through the portal. Once registered I can then enter my Luxemburg A1-A3 license info along with insurance.
