I stand in complete admiration of this video and every word of Professor Fiamengo's speech. Truth, when it is stated so well, is exilerating even when it is the bearer of bad news. You have been schooled, McMaster!! I graduated from McMaster in 2002, attending from 1998 - 2002, and although I had a positive experience overall, especially in retrospect I can see that these trends were beginning even back then. It is still a bit of a shock to see just how deeply it would go on to fall into Alice in (Fascist) Wonderland. Every now and then when I must briefly return to its campus I can feel it in the air. Very sad.

The irony of what these people wrote on freedom of speech considering Peterson is the one that is the victim of a cancelation attempt by the Ontario College of Psychologists (he's back in the news because it looks like he has no choice but to undergo "re-education" to "correct" him of his "unacceptable" thinking) is mind boggling.

Parents who will have just completed about 20 years of working for their children's interests, and paying for their upkeep, are idiots if they send them to McMaster. One of my kids went mostly on the dime of the Liberal government back in the period described here, and that is the last we have pretty much seen of her. Whatever you do, do not support this institution, and past graduates should stop contributing to it. Resistance does make a difference as after the 2017 fiasco, they did send out requests to Parents to contribute to a review of the situation. Though I don't think it had any effect, but they clearly were stung for having risen to assume their rightful notoriety as a place where free exchange of ideas was not an option.

It is amazing how these college professors cannot understand the meaning of and need for free speech. With a group that large you would have thought at least one of them would think they had the knowledge, qualifications and/or expertise to have been on the program or debated Dr Peterson. Instead all they did was promoted an active protest, which was both cowardly and embarrassing for an institution of higher learning. Unfortunately, most universities are now intolerant of diverse ideas while insisting on being tolerated.

Shift the focus to hard science. Although they fail often, hard scientific institutions generally recognize the need to defend normative ideas against claims of validity about non-normative thinking. Why? Because non-normative thinking is usually incorrect, and hard science is conservative.
The young tend to think that new, revolutionary ideas are better, and anything is better than what we have now. How wrong can they be? They'll learn, maybe.
Of course, non-normative thinking is very possibly correct, but that cannot be known unless it is contested by normative thinkers. Honest people welcome the contest, and strive to maintain respect and clear thought, avoiding logical fallacies.

I think you're expecting things to change far, far too quickly.
You've got to realize that most people are disengaged with the discourse about "the health of our institutions," let alone our institutions of higher learning. True, if you briefed them ("most people") on the cases that excite our attention, they would be on our side. The tenured radicals of our universities are palpably corrupt. But the mass of people will never be made to pay attention to a whole series of examples, across institutions, so that they'd be persuaded that: bad people are being paid to conduct our higher education (and it matters!).
So, if not through the force of majorities, how can we change things? Only by singing this song. And by drawing as much possible impetus from the adverse circumstances we face.
