  • When you look at him now it's almost impossible to believe, but while he was growing up Johnny Nobody didn't want any tattoos. It wasn't until he started going to punk shows and seeing all the tattooed people in the pit that the idea of getting covered came to him. Once he was in, he was all-in. We spoke with Johnny about his roots, night terrors, what made him decide to tattoo his eyeballs and much more.

I feel like the rise in popularity of tattoos has really damaged the egos of some people who have been heavily tattooed or just tattooed in general long before it became cool and I don’t get that. I love seeing more people embracing the art and love for tattoos and piercings. My goal when I started getting tattoos was never to stand out or be rebellious. Johnny seems like a super cool and chill guy, and I like him from what I've seen if him on the Inked channel. But something about his views on the purpose of being tattooed kinda rubbed me the wrong way.
"If I could start over I'd be blank, because everyone has a tattoo now". Like, as someone who just said they prefer to find a meaning to get a tattoo for, do your tattoos mean that little to you?
I only have a handful myself so far, but even the few tattoos I have are such a valuable and integral part of my identity. Not because I want to be "the different kid", but because of the tattoos themselves. My identity is wrapped in not being tattooed, but what my specific tattoos are. I'd hate to lose the art I've given myself.
Don't know if that makes much sense, that was just my gut reaction

Well, he explained the life his parents had, the alcohol and the drugs. Seems reasonable to me that, while growing up, he didn't want to be like them in any single way (even having tattoos) in fear it could mean he was like them.
The tattoo scene isn't anything new, having a tattoo doesn't mean the same, many older artists say the same as him. It is true that if they want having a tattoo to be more accepted and less taboo, they have to deal with it becoming more mainstream, since open minded people who accept it will also be more inclined to enter the scene and get one. What sucks is that old school artists like him would rather criticize and do nothing instead of educating newcomers.
As for not liking being like normal people is fine, but I agree that doing everything to not look normal even if it means that you are contradicting your own personality, your tastes and what makes you unique just for the sake of being different, it makes you, ironically, as blank as the ones who wipe their personality to be normal

I was having this conversation the other day, I'm a collector. Meaning, there wasn't ever a big ( plan). Since the 80s. Got my first tattoo when I was 16. Bob Shaw. And picked up others as time went on when I had the money.. ( I) did not invent this shit. But was getting them when only bikers ,sailors, prisoners were getting them. I kinda liked it cause it set me apart and was interesting. Fast forward to 2000 teens. It went from , you'll never get a job, to soccer moms getting random ones, to sports players getting heavily inked, especially like mma athletes getting alot, to guys like Rogan getting sleeves done in a short amount of time. Rappers going on to get face work, to now. Look where the fuck we're at. I'm with this dude. If I had it to do over again ,I'd probly stay free of any of it. This is only my opinion.
He is in the industry, I'm as he is, in the lifestyle, but not in the ( industry). Our modern hipsters had a part in it too
    ..
Again, just my opinion. But my sure there are others that share this opinion.
Everybody do what makes you happy.
I just wish I weren't a part of all this..
    My opinion. Good day people.
P.S. add the whole Inkmaster, inked exposure has made this a bit of mainstream, which I wasn't after, at all.

Agreed! Those are the same people that when they tske off their clothes, there's no tattoos or not many tattoos that are under clothes and are personal. People nowadays are getting tattooed because its "cool" and its a fad right now. So they get tattoed in spots that are visible to the public. That's just vanity. Im perfectly content with wearing clothing covering some of my tattoos, and if i died without anyone seeing most of them, so be it, they were for ME in the first place, and NOT for looks.

    • @Bridg3otto

@@RM-TheQuadroon My tattoos are also only for me. But they are on my forearms arms and hand... because you know what? I WANT TO SEE THEM without having to strip down. People get tattoos in different places for different reasons. Would i get tattoos on other areas? Yes. But only if they make sense. I'm not flaunting my tattoos for others but i'm not gonna hide them either because other people might see them. If you like not showing your tattoos, that's great. But that doesn't make other people automatically lesser or attention seeking if they want them visible.

@@DJDenise It's an old school thing. Back in the day, if you had your neck or face or hands tattooed they were considered "job stoppers." It was customary for tattooers to refuse to give you tattoos there unless you had full sleeves/a lot of visible tattoos, in other words, they wouldn't do it for somebody who hadn't already walked around with very visible tattoos and experienced the sort of effect that could have on their life. These days tattoos are much more acceptable (depending on where you live), so there isn't the same stigma around them.
