- Since the release of Metallica : St. Anger I've always wanted the opportunity to try and remix it... I think a lot of us have. BUT with technology now, is it possible?

I doesn't need "fixing", it's perfect the way it is. Says me and the other 2 people who liked the album 😅
Just accept it - St Anger is better than Death Magnetic.
@@PrivateUsername i agree
@@PrivateUsernameDude that's like saying chlamydia is better than syphilis. They're both bad!
@@AWMJoeyjoejoeWhat about Death Magnetic (besides the mixing) is bad? The album is perfect besides the production.
I'd like to see you replay the guitar parts on a new recording with the new drums and bass and add James Hetfield's vocals back on to it!
That'd be a good video, I just didn't have time to go that deep on it!
Somebody remastered that entire album years ago with proper drums it is actually quite good.
I feel like that AI program only half way works. Lol. It’d be great for tribute bands who want to dissect songs.
Yup
Garage Inc. The album after Metallica ran out of Dave's riffs....
😂
Do you think they pitch tuned the whole thing and thats why it sounmds so weird cause it sounds like a numetal piccolo snare detuned with a digitech pitch pedal
I don't know, whatever they did though made it worse
@TaylorDanley that might be a good video, how did they record it so badly and how you can avoid those mistakes😅
Snare on St. Anger sounds better than nearly 100% of the modern recordings, and it's not even a competition.
That snare tone is actually a delight according to the Goregrind and Slam scenes, but uncultured Metalliplebs of course would find it appalling.
It truly is the king of all pings. I've even tried to replicate it's soul devouring dissonance in my own creations.
As a Metallica fan and slam/brutal death metal fan, I agree. Hearing fans of this other thrash bands and less extreme bands say the snare is a problem shows just how uncultured most metalheads truly are.
If only Metallica knew how much impact more bass guitar could have.
I highly recommend Moises for stripping instruments from songs. Also uses AI but you can have unlimited songs/time for like $5 per month, all songs are also given a smart metronome as a bonus.
The green cover version is surprisingly listenable.
Can you do this for Redeemer of Souls too?
Lars’ drums sound drunk as fuck. Ha ha! Cracking up.
There’s a remixed version on RUclips that’s pretty good. Not James’ vocal on it though. Some guy redid the whole thing.
I know, it's much better than what I got. I have a feeling it's all re-tracked though.
Theres even footage of Lars saying this is how you f up the sound of a snare drum
I haven't seen it, but if that's true I have a new found respect for the man.
Yep I saw it. He was holding a snare drum in his hands. He turned off the snares and said this won't sell records. He turned the snares back on and said this will sell records. At least he can laugh at himself
The AI mix still sounds terrible 😂
I did my best...
@@TaylorDanley oh yeah for sure there's no fixing that snare lmao
I'm not digging the full on ad for paid software, its weird.
Separating Lars bad drumming is like separating aids from the human body. Impossible
Also, if you look up Frantic or St.Anger live from the past 5 years, it sounds way better than the album
It sounds like Lars put snare wires on a beer keg...
😂
Oh damn what a letdown. I was so hopeful. Nice effort and cool concept though.
Funny Invisible kid popped up in my head right before you said it😂😂😂
"and justice for all"'s lack of bass guitar
Money good, Napster bad! (yeah, I'm that old :P )
Good reaction!
Oh this is cool. I’ve always wanted to get a chance to remix black label society 1919 eternal album. Imo it’s their best album but absolutely mixed unlistenably bad. The guitar tone is so harsh. Idk who signed off on it but it’s just awful. But those songs are so sick!
Love that album
Yeah, I'm hoping that this tech gets better and we can get closer to true isolation. It opens so many doors!
@@TaylorDanley the way I see it, it’s only up from here. There’s lots of really smart and talented people working on these technologies and with the aid of rapidly refining ai stuff like this isn’t far away. I would imagine in a year or two there will be tech available that would make easy work of these tasks.
Pretty interesting video Taylor. I revisited the album for the first time since I bought it in high school and ended up throwing it out a window. It's still pretty awful. The mixes are super trash.
It's hard to believe it's a Metallica album. Load, Re-Load and the black album all still sound great.
Still to this day, the black album is one of the best produced metal albums. Crazy how far of a removal this is from that.
What a coincidence. I watched Some kind of monster yesterday 😊.
I thought they fixed it when they replaced it with a metal pipe droping
I remember preordering this and being massively disappointed when it came out. Still garbage 20 years later.
One more thing why didnt you just replace the snare completely?
because the snare was bleeding into the guitar tracks, it sounded weird if I did it that way. Also I only had a drum track and then the midi snare/bass drum. If I muted the original snare, I'd lose cymbals and toms too
If I had a lot more time to do this, I could have replaced everything, but how much of my life do I want to dedicate to that? 😂
@TaylorDanley I just started learning how to program drums and I know you can crop out certain parts and put in new sounds and since you have the drums separated I thought you could crop out the snare. I know it would take me a long time to do but I didn't know if you could do it faster. But maybe it wouldn't be worth it since it bled into the other tracks
Honestly this album aged well imo. Its basically a metalcore album from today. The snare really isnt that bad. The mix is what kills it and none of the songs needed to go longer then 2 minutes. Not sure how Bob rock shat out this and the black album.
The songs aren't bad. But yeah the mix is pretty bad. I was surprised how much better it sounded with just more bass.
@@TaylorDanley that could be said about most of metallicas catalog.
VERY NICE!!! 😅
Since St. Anger I just feel this bad-taste in my mouth that Metallica is no different than others who just want to pull my money.
Not entirely sure that album is fixable yo 😂 A for effort though 👍😂
This is not even the worst. Hard to decide what after this is the worst. ALL are really bad.
People rag on this album wayyyy to much. You forget that this is a returning album, meaning they were out of it for a long time and it was literally a warm up jam album. And in my opinion it was an awesome album because it was raw and aggressive. But what do I know
True story!
The songs themselves were actually pretty good but there is no excuse for that snare drum. That was and is absolutely obnoxious and takes away from how good the album could be.
I have a hard time agreeing with this. At the end of the day everyone involved with this album knows what a good album sounds like. They chose to release something that was objectively not good, and even padded that by including a live recording which was much better. It's just an odd decision.
@@TaylorDanley I thought the same thing. The live recording of it sounded so much better. I just saw Metallica recently when they played with the Pantera tribute and they played a couple of songs off St. Anger. What a world of difference. That constant "bong bong bong" wasn't there and it changed the whole experience. They need to re-record this since you obviously couldn't just do the drums as it bleeds so heavily into the guitar. I'm getting annoyed just thinking about it.
Maybe they just used a timbale for a snare.
Or just a tuned snare drum. That'd work too!
@@TaylorDanley I've said for a long time, Lars Ulrich is the next Sheila E. Nobody seems to agree, though. I think this is proof.
Pretty neat! I have no idea what you are talking about but I love it.
Best Metallica Album 🧠🤘
much better - think a frying pan hitting an empty keg was the original snare tone
You're probably right! They over used the slipknot gimmick lol.
Moises is better.
Sorry, but the original sounds much better.
nah the mix has more character
@@emocapybara8676 You cant be serious? It sounds like every other rock or metal song ever recorded. The original has character, took chances, and wanted to stand apart from every other song you hear.
@@AnonyBassif a song needs lousy mixing for it to stand out, it’s a sh*t song
LA LAL is rubbish.Try Rip NMix its way better
Sneaky ad.
Excuse me, but this album has more sound dignity than the ridicule of the bass being absent in AJFA.
That was actually a close second when I was deciding on a video topic. I probably should have went that route, would have been easier.
Lulu is worse
