  • In his book titled ‘The Anatomy of Power’, Maj Gen Kyaligonza says he first joined military service during former president Idi Amin’s regime under the dreaded State Research Bureau (SRB) until 1974 when he fled after the killing of his boss, Lt Col Sarapio Kakuhikire.
Maj Gen Kyaligonza fled and joined Save Uganda Movement under Akena P’Ojok that resisted Amin and later, he was part of President Museveni’s Bush War.

Gov't times then were brutal and a lot like Afande Matayo Kyaligonza abandoned all they had.. biz etc to reinforce a struggle for sanity in Uganda. Many of their comrades unfortunately lost their lives. Gov't forces also struggled to hold on and many honest civilian lives were also lost... Its sad and regretable...The mission back then was convincing for tough hearts to join the struggle and they relentlessly gave it their best. Are the ordeals of a few past regimes slowly replicating themselves through our current new fresh Gov't leaders we have? It would be a disgrace to people like Afande Kyaligonza and many of his genuine freedom fighters to notice what took them to the bush being eroded by self seeking visionaries and in the process causing ruin to the bigger Uganda. Tell me of a soldier that was arrested 3 times and still escaped... NRA had many dare courageous hearts that pulled off what seemed impossible and among them was Afande Matayo Kyaligonza. Thanks for all those achievements you gave. NRA/NRM should NEVER ever despise or put off what you and many others like you did for the struggle. You will remain an icon figure as among if not the lead front line commander that captured Kampala and later handed it to his superior boss YKM. RIP fallen freedom fighters, Longlive those still alive...and please NEW leadership and those in the making, don't destroy what was given to you. Bse history can repeat itself when tables turn and you become the HUNTED...
Thanks for the documentary Mr. Ibrahim
