You don't get the distance because the quantum efficiency of the detector drops off significantly between 850nm and 940nm going from around 80% for the 850nm unit to 40% for the 940nm illuminator. Thus the 940nm unit appears half as bright, different detectors have different rates of drop off. At the end of the day these are basically camera detectors with the IR filter removed. Very simple devices.
