    Sabian once went Big & Ugly, now Meinl goes Bright & Shiny haha
    to be honest, I like byzance traditionals better, these ones really sound like Paiste and I've been always avoiding such sound.
    anyway, I can't even imagine how flattering it is when a company like Meinl asks you to represent their new cymbal line. you totally deserve that Austin, huge respect from a Russian fan and best of luck!

      They remind me of the Paiste PST7's, which I returned. Bought a 18" of these and also got ride of. I'll stick with my Meinl Cymbals Byzance B16DUC series

      Richard Pine 100%
      It’s the same cymbal. I was in a music store the other day and they had a 16” and I hit it and it sounded exactly like my Paiste 602 modern essentials... I had my cymbal bag in the car and brought it in to the store and compared them.... virtually identical

    Fantastic product review, Austin. Thank you for the good talk, and for the great demonstration. Definitely gives a clear picture of what they are, and how they differ from for instance the Byzance Traditional series.

    I'm glad meinl decided to get more clean cymbals into their line. I don't know about you guys but I'm not a big fan of the dry crashes in the byzance line. (The rides and chinas on the other hand are fantastic)

    Best review I have seen so far. I bet you were happy when they decided to send you a set, a lot closer to the Sabians you used to play. To me, they definitely have a Paiste sound. Somewhere between 2002 and Sigs.

    • @ChristopherSackett
      @ChristopherSackett 5 лет назад +1

      Well you could technically have a "pure" alloy if what the alloy consists of has no impurities in it, but yes, it's an oxymoron because an alloy is a mix of metals making it "impure".

    They're trying pretty hard to go after paistes market. Allot itself is probably close to signatures but he hammering and cumbal profile are closer to 2002 black beats.

    meinl 602's, meinl is smashing everyone's cymbal game except Istanbul for contempory recording, Constantinople jazz or kerope neo-funk n soul, new special drys in electro (but i definatey prefer the extra dry thin stuff to the new special dry sound wise)... i think meinls pretty much winning last year and this year or at least neck n neck with the ever popular zildjian

  • @iopklmification
    @iopklmification 7 лет назад +15

    Meh. I don't get the point of this line, the Byzance traditionnal already covers the need for general purpose cymbals, and they still have the Meinl sound. Those are much more generic, they sound like Paiste's. Sure it's a new option but it lacks personality.

      I'm agree, sound like paiste cymbals.. I liked these cymbals

    • @SmangItDrums
      @SmangItDrums 7 лет назад

      Not quite. They're made of B12, so they're not exactly going for Paiste's sound. They're evolving an alloy that they've been well-known for for years since the Soundcaster series. I guess you can say these are more akin to Paiste's Giant Beat series, but considering those are made of B8, these still stand apart on their own.

    • @tobiasbeyer3498

    • @Frus77sh
      @Frus77sh 7 лет назад +1

      dobosar87 they're B12, same as Zildjian's S series and the same as Meinl's Soundcaster line. I imagine they're just the Soundcasters but repackaged differently.

  • @lucianisidro
    @lucianisidro 5 лет назад

    To me at least, they sound somewhere between a Paiste 2002 and a Paiste Signature Full. A little more complex than the 2002, but maybe not quite as nice as a Signature. Excuse the Paiste references, because that's all I know. They are actually a B12 - so that puts them in Signature territory. Anyway, yeah. Very nice cymbals!

    • @markomarkovic5729

    • @lucianisidro

    • @markomarkovic5729
      @markomarkovic5729 4 года назад

      @@lucianisidro On Thomann's website said it's b20. Overpriced in any case. You can buy Turkish made cymbals for much less money, at least here in Europe. If you look at the Meinl Wikipedia page, you'll see that "Byzance series are hand hammered in Turkey". There are many Turkish brands, such as Diril, Istanbul Mehmet, Anatolian, Impression, Murat Diril, Aegean, Istanbul Agop, Bosphorus, Masterwork, etc. And they all make topnotch hand hammered b20 cymbals (they don't bother making entry-level brass crap) and sell them at lower price than Meinl, Sabian, Zildjian and Paiste. And Turks invented cymbals, so they know what they're doing.

    • @lucianisidro
      @lucianisidro 4 года назад

      @@markomarkovic5729 I've been a Paiste man for 40 years - ain't gonna switch now! I have some nice Paiste Twenty Series cymbals, including ride and hi-hats, which are handmade in Switzerland from Turkish blanks. Otherwise I use Signatures, 2002s and Rudes.

    • @markomarkovic5729
      @markomarkovic5729 4 года назад +2

      @@lucianisidro I don't stick with just one brand, nor bother with what it says on the cymbal, but rather use those that appeal to my ear. Paiste is unrivaled when it comes to mid-level b8 series, especially older lines such as 400, 404, 505 and 802 (old Alphas). My problem with the big 4 (Paiste, Meinl, Paiste and Sabian) is that their top lines cost too much because of the brand name, and the same quality (and better) can be found with Turkish manufacturers at a much lower price. Just my 2 cents.
