23:30 the wood blocks are for fixings to screw into - there was a cast iron fireplace surround - probably dumped outside in that rusty pile of rubbish you cleared into skip
Oh that's good to know what It was for! I would love to find the old fireplace, when we start digging through the trash pipe again I will keep an eye out for it!!
If it’s not anywhere on the property you might look in salvage yards. They often have great stuff from the past. Get acquainted with your local antiques dealers too. And car boot sales. You never know where you’ll find treasures for your house and garden. If this is a bedroom I would keep the fire surround fairly small with a nice mantelpiece for a few items such as candlesticks and perhaps a clock.
Hi hon, I am so excited for every find you make in your cottage. I know that when we did our old farm house we were most excited about the miracles hidden by 2oth century crap lol. Word of advice ( you don't need to take it) dont do anything about repointing yet.. wait...your funds will go quite fast so let the builders do their thing and then decide. The one thing we made a priority was to aways clear the debris before we finished for the day, nothing worse than coming back to a crap storm of building rubble. Hope you are feeling better. Ciao until next week
That's such great advice thank you! And omg I know it's definitely important to clean up because there's nothing worse than going back down to a dirty room to start with!
I hope you are feeling better! I also have a bedroom with a fireplace and no wall to speak of to put the bed against. I have placed the bed in the middle of the room and it works very well. Don’t stress out about placements of things till the room is finished. You are creative and it will come together!
Each to their own, but I wouldn’t be even thinking of buying tools to do any repointing, it’s using up valuable time you can’t afford not preparing your site for your builders. For a single handed project you are really doing amazingly well, don’t get discouraged or distracted, by hopping from wall clearing to pointing which will potentially need to be removed anyway by your builders, and you mention that you are always against a deadline for your grant. You’re doing a great job!1
Thank you! So all the prep for the builders is kind of optional, but they would like the walls pointed prior to them coming - as much as possible anyway so they can crack on with the other stuff and have the stone walls stable, but we'll see how it goes its more than likely they'll have to do the repointing
Oh wow, when your glove swiped the dirt and dust from the big stone, I couldn't help thinking the stone took a deep breath of fresh air that it's been needing for such a long time. The stone wall/fireplace is wonderful. Congrats!
What a pleasant find! A fireplace is the heart of a house, and having one in your bedroom is really so satisfying! Keep up the good work, Aisling...I'll keep watching from Italy 😊
Great find! You are such a hard working lady. Someday you will look back on all of your hard work and be so proud of all the accomplishments you have achieved. Try some ginger lemon honey tea for your sore throat. Hope you feel better! Many Blessings hun XO ❤🥰🍀
Hi Aisling 😊, I'm a Dub living in the wildwest aswll, hi neighbour, just luvthe scenery here. Im doing something similar to yourself although its not an old house its an unfished new build thar I got. Well when I say new build it was left idle for over 15yrs before I took it over. A lot of work involved. You are doing a fantastic job 😊 and I wish you and your little fury friends all Blessings, Health and Happiness in you new home. I will be on your journey with you, looking forward to seeing it all done. Godbless.
Oh no way! A think a lot of dubs are moving out west! That's brilliant you're doing the same thing best of luck with your project! Do you have an Instagram or anything it would be great to keep in touch!
You're unveiling history, Aisling! How incredible - your home is lucky it was you who bought it for sure. I hope you are feeling better, nothing worse than coming down with something at this time of year 🤧🤒 hugs to you and the girls ❤
I haven't had a cold or anything in probably 3 years (im very lucky) so Im feeling very sorry for myself this week 🤣 still under the weather but it is just a cold! I feel like to have gotten this home, I can't wait to restore it! Big hugs and love back to you and kizzy ❤️
Oh wow! I’m so excited for you! What a lovely find after all the searching you’ve done, and then this unexpectedly revealing itself 😍 The house is starting to share its story with you and that is wonderful. I really hope you are feeling better 🏡💚♥️
I had really given up on finding anymore fireplaces so I was shocked when I found it!! And especially not in such good condition in absolutely delighted ♥️♥️♥️♥️
This room working on, would make a good front room. As you can see the cars go by. With the fireplace make it cozy. Notice they didn't insulate the walls. One room at a time. It will all work out for you. Do you do it all yourself or help?
Amazing progress Aisling! Love the discoveries and joy. Have you checked out CamperVibe youtubers they've been working on an Irish cottage too. If youre still having damp to dry off The Girls did some outdoor remediation to get the water away from the walls. Keep up the great work
A lovely wall and fireplace. A thank you from the cottage for all the hard work and tlc you are giving it. Be kind to yourself and take it easy if you're not 100%.
Oh I just love that fireplace, what a find. I'm so happy for you, its like a reward for all your hard work. The stories that fireplace could tell as it was used for sitting around and perhaps cooking. Warm hugs to you, Morrigan and Bainne. ❤
Such a great find I'm delighted to have finally found an original features! I can only.imagine the times held around that fire place, the good ones and also I can't help but think of the bad ones as well! Lots of hugs back to your and Mr FF ❤️
Great find. I'm going to throw another idea out there. What about placing the bed on the opposite the windows and next to the door. The fireplace will then be hidden but not covered up. But still gets a chance to shine. You also get to wake up and look straight out the windows. Will be interesting to see what you find when you get to open up the fireplace
I love them too! I had hoped the whole cottage could be restored back to the stone but unfortunately the rest of the walls have been pretty destroyed so I'm DELIGHTED to finally have found one wall that's good!!
You could save all that polystyrene for your plants. It makes good drainage broken up in bottom of pots or could be good insulation for a greenhouse or over wintering plants in the future xx
Soon you wont need a builder Ashling! You are going to be able to do it yourself. You might need a hard hat next! Im so pleased that you found the fireplace xx
Wow!! What a beautiful wall🤩 So exciting for you to finally uncover a pleasant surprise! In a year from now, you might actully sit in that room with a cup of tea looking at a renovated stone wall!
I have a guess about the wooden bits next to the fireplace: if previous owners in the dim past wanted to "fancy up" the place a bit, they might have added a wooden mantle and surround on the sides of the fireplace. To do that, they'd have to make a way to fasten it into place and one way to do that was to add some wood to the sides to give something to nail into. As I said, just a guess but I do have a certain knowledge of old homes and antiques so my guess is semi-informed. By the way, maybe don't worry so much about centering the bed in the room. Wait and see what happens organically. One of the charms of old cottages is that nothing is ever quite even and perfect, and it shouldn't be.
Oh that makes total sense what the wooden pieces were for! I definitely think that's the most logical explanation anyway! And you're right, I'll definitely wait and see what the room tells me, most of the charm is that nothing is straighy or centre!
Bare stone walls in cottages are only cold if they are damp. And as you've said, it's concrete that causes the damp (both on the walls, floor and around the outside of the building). Your walls are lovely - go ahead and repoint with lime and you'll have a beautiful wall to look at! Well done for uncovering this hidden beauty.
@@morrigans_cottage well you will need a wood burner etc. to heat up the walls, but stone holds heat for a long time (and very cool in summer too)! I also believe there is a way of doing lime rendering for the bad walls that is insulating (while allowing your house to breathe).
@isola-bella the stone walls are so lovely I'm delighted with them! I think under floor heating is an option but I'm going to traditional rads and a free standing stove
I'm a 71 year old granny from Washington State USA...I would help you with your chipping away at the walls and clean up if I could, it's all so exciting. 😊
What an exciting find!! You are doing an amazing job as one pair of hands! I love following your progress. I'm looking forward to watching how things unfold for you.
Thank you so much! I do wish at times there was a second set of hands to help things would move a lot faster but I will push on with my own! Can't wait for things to track on with the builders in Jan!
🔨👷🏻♂️🇨🇦Hi Aisling, we are very much alike! Mrs. Betty and I bought a Very Old abandoned Church with 5 Acres of Land and a cemetery! We are living in The Ole Church while we renovate….Let the Homestead Games begin!
I just followed what a cool journey you're on! I lived in Grande Prairie, AB for nearly 10 years which I know is a million miles away from where ye are but know lots of people that hail from your neck of the woods!! Best of luck with the project I'm going to go catch up through your videos!
Fair play to you taking on that wall. You're doing great. There are a couple of girls on youtube called campervibe restoring a very similar cottage in the west of Ireland. Great channel. About a month ago they had a video up where they pointed a wall with lime, and they had a fireplace that looked really similar to yours. Even the big stone above looked the same. Might be worth checking out, it came out great after the pointing.
I LOVE the girls at camper vibe, and as soon as I saw the fire place I thought about theirs! I'm really looking forward to getting it pointed and beautiful like they have!
I would definitely put the bed in front of the window instead of behind the kitchen fireplace. Keep the original and add a chimney that is structured like the original one would have been then match the pink paint with a professional that can do the lime paint or at least the original pink color.
Those are all great ideas! Once the builders have been in and get all the work done I'll worry more then about layout, my only worry with the bed by the window is that it'll be drafty but if it's not it definitely would be a good spot! I can't get a new chimney added at the moment mostly money but also because I would need planning permission which isn't in the cards for this phase of renovation but maybe in the future I could get a new one in! Thanks so much for all the suggestions I love them!
A great surprise! Hope yoü are feeling well again. Regarding the wood rests, have a look at what Ben did to their fireplace, corner house project. They had simila r pieces of wood too. Such an exciting find❤
Very similar to what Ben found! Great find I'm thrilled to have found it! Still a bit under the weather but hopefully by next weekend back to normal ❤️
Aisling why not swap rooms, ie, use the smaller room as your bedroom with nearer access to the bathroom and use the bigger room as spare and office. Office desk etc opposite the wall with fire place and put a sofa bed in the middle of the room facing fireplace. Maybe add coffee table, bookshelves etc. Better use of space maybe. Pieces of wood used to nail or screw a fire surround into. Cheers
Great minds. The stone wall is just beautiful and it needs to bee seen again after being covered for so long. Your little house is turning into quite the Cinderella story ❤
I am just trilled for you! What a fabulous find! I am with you, there is no way that the wall should be covered back up. Take care, gargle with warm salt water! Sorry, my nursing instincts kicked in!
wow looks you go girl ! Even that you don't feel good I could tell how excited and happy you were with that wall. And getting that room ready is absoluley going to give a great place to set your plans in motion. What a great find :)
Such a great find I'm delighted! The first bit of decent wall that I can fix up and leave out for show! Looking forward to getting back down next weekend to crack on again
Hi Aisling, what a nice find! how wow would an office desk be, facing that fireplace though. I expect you might rethink things a few times, the house will tell you. Moving along at a good pace now, well done for soldiering on, but do take care of your health.
Thank you! I've been knocked by this cold all week it's been miserable but hopefully it lifts this weekend! Such a great find and it'll definitely give me a lot to think about layout wise
My hopes fulfilled! I just knew it would be a fireplace and I'm so happy for you. When all that cement is removed and all the stone repointed it will look lovely. I'm guessing but the wooden bits might have been the remains of a fire surround? I'm sorry you're not feeling great, it will be a cold you have. I've had it all week, started with a sore throat which came on suddenly followed by the usual symptoms but it was only a couple of days that I felt crap so not too long, hope you soon recover. Great progress Aisling.❤
I'm glad you're feeling better! I'm still under the weather but much better than I was in the beginning of the week! I'm DELIGHTED to have found the fireplace and finally some stone walls that are in good enough shape to leave out as a feature! It was a great weekend at the house I'm excited to go back next weekend! ❤️
Lots more done, great news about the fireplace, it will be so exciting for you deciding where everything will go, as another poster said the house will tell you, i think that's very apt.
I love all the cows lined up to say "Hello!" You certainly have a nice big garden for growing pretty much anything you can think of...except citrus or avocados. Close off the door again, only doing a better job of it, and then put the bed against that wall as you planned. If you don't have a chimney, you might want to investigate where the stove pipe might have gone outside. There isn't a bricked up fireplace on the other side of that wall is there? Dual fireplaces with one smokestack? Since the previous owners blocked the fireplace, they could have taken down the chimney and then reroofed. Any clues in the attic? Repointing that wall is going to be a bear of a job! Taking out the concrete in the fire place could bring that whole wall down.
I loved having the cows so close, they haven't been around lately I think they were moved to a field up the road! To be honest with you I actually really like having the extra door, it makes the movement of the house better so I'm in 2 minds at the moment what I'll do! The attic doesn't give much details, there's half a chimney stack left up there that they were too lazy to close off or take down properly so that will be on me to get done. Definitely won't be taking any blocks out without having builders around to do it!
the airoboard and plasterboard were a 1980's way of dry lining houses, you'll be using high density insulated paster boards now. Ide buy the 50mm insulated ones. i wouldn't bother with the fireplace. opening it could end up costing you a lot. Get a stove instead
@ just a thought if you used a crowbar to remove the wood holding the plaster board would it come off easier? Instead of taking pieces of plasterboard off first ?
You could get the concrete out and put an electric or gas fireplace insert. You could also close off one of the doors to rework the floor plan. I don't think I could bring myself to put anything in front of it, especially after re-pointing. That will be gorgeous. Now, not to be a buzz kill, but It might need to be evaluated by an engineer with those cracks, though; the cement might be holding it up.
Yes that's definitely an idea to remove the concrete, it'll definitely need to be evaluated but I am hoping it's study enough and just in need of some repointing - hopefully when I'm back down next weekend all will still be standing 🤣
That is looking like the wall to leave as feature and have plasterbiard behind the bed (less dust too). That is feckin' stunning ❤❤❤❤❤❤ Centred bed doesn’t matter, so long as there is access around. You can put tv on a swinging arm from the corner (if you HAVE to have a tv in bedroom) It would be so sad to see such an anachronism on that wall.
If you are practicing repointing start on a wall you'll cover. Save the skills you gain for the walls you leave. The shed/garage probably was why the chimney was removed??
Thank you! Still a bit under the weather but hopefully better this week! Was so great to find the fireplace and the nice stone walls! Looking forward to getting back down and uncovering more ❤️❤️
Demolition diva is back😂, I don't know what class of a drill you were using but if war breaks out they'll have you at the front with that😂, epic find, awesome video, I hope you're feeling better, plenty vit c, take it easy and hopefully see you girls soon❤️, when you were using the hammer and chisel and speed it up it sounded like a demented woodpecker was in the cottage, you love hard work, well done ❤
We're with you all the way, really excited to share it with you and the babies, don't worry to much about cracks in walls as detached properties move and settle with the ground when it swells with rain and dries out in summer, the beauty of these old cottages is they stones move and shift unlike my 200 yr old detached property in London, because the bricks are fixed they crack with any ground movement., keep being you and all the good luck the gods can shower you with🙏❤️
The cracking in the walls is probably due to subsidence from water ingress. It has to be investigated particularly that front external wall facing the road.
Have you thought about asking any of the locals if they know the history of the cottage? Youd be surprised that some neighbours may even have old photographs. Also might be worth getting the stone sandblasted before pointing.
the elusive fireplace shows up. How exciting! Sorry you are feeling ill. You have been a busy girl, though. The plaster seemed like it came of easier on that wall. Was it damp? Now all you have to find is that bag of cash they hid in the walls . Wouldn't that be awesome?😊 feel better soon ❤
The plaster was damp which really made it a lot easier to take off! Or maybe I'm just better at doing it now, either way it was much easier than normal! Yes I'm very ready to find the bag of cash! ❤️
Sorry I am late to the grand reveal 2 inches of snow and we lose the electric, WORSE 23 hours after it came back on NO Internet for 3 days, can you believe that I was so mad. Anyway yes on the fireplace cant believe it, I think if the walls will hold then go for it, you can do it in your own time and imagine how it will look, you seen the girls walls and camper vibe so it can be done and and use lime plaster. Also I did say before about turning that doorway into a nook, so now you could have it all blocked up and flat that way you have a wall to put your bed that will be able to centre your bed, and a nice wall to look at, then the living room can have that space as a nook or shelves in it. Either way you will find it as you go, I know you must be better now and so hope to see whats happening next. Big hugs to all as always Dede xxxx
Oh my goodness that sounds awful!!! I feel like whenever the weather is even slight off the norm, power Internet etc goes 😔 the power was off at the cottage for a day or two - thankfully I was up in Dublin - hope everything is back working correctly now ♥️ big hugs to you from me and the girls ♥️
@morrigans_cottage can't wait to see what's behind that beautiful fireplace... good luck ✨️ and good morning up and baking in my new set of le creuset dang the french sure know how! 😀
Hi Aisling. Well I'm gobsmacked! I always thought that there would be a fireplace in that room. Just not there! Please please do not cover that wall up. It's too beautiful. Hope you are feeling better
Still smothered in a cold but getting there now! I'm just delighted finding the walls in such nice shape and also the old fireplace! It was a great find!
Grand find. Don’t over think furniture and decorating at this time. Set with the house, walls, features, etc. It will shape as needs be. 🥰🤗
You're so right! Best not sweat the furniture when the walls and floors need doing first! It's a lovely little find!

Ah thank you so much ♥️ it was so nice to finally find an original feature that wasn't totally in ruin! ♥️♥️♥️
That wall and fireplace will be beautiful!
The wood bits were probably part of the surround where it was adhered to the stones
That makes sense for the surround! They really are beautiful!

That makes total sense! Thank you!! I was scratching my head on it!

That's definitely something to think of doing! Once the builders have done their bits I'll play around with different layouts!
Definitely something to think about
I love those rock walls. Can’t wait to see the rest of the walls finished. Great job.
I love them too! I had hoped the whole cottage could be restored back to the stone but unfortunately the rest of the walls have been pretty destroyed so I'm DELIGHTED to finally have found one wall that's good!!

Maybe I'll have to open my own demo business! I was trying to stand back because I was thinking I should probably have a hard hat!
You could just open it up as a decorative fireplace as very expensive to make it a functioning fireplace again. Great find.
I think itll deffo just be decorative rather than fully functional, especially if I turn that shed into an ensuite in the future!
Thank you for your update. The old fireplace looks great! 👌 😊

Stunning find!!! So happy for you❤
I LOVE the walls! So happy with finding them! ❤️
Great find. When you watch the last episode (I think) of The Corner house project you can see where it is for. They are putting a stove in.
Oh I think you're right, I think they might have shown it! I LOVE the corner house, they are the nicest people in the world
Bare stone walls in cottages are only cold if they are damp. And as you've said, it's concrete that causes the damp (both on the walls, floor and around the outside of the building). Your walls are lovely - go ahead and repoint with lime and you'll have a beautiful wall to look at! Well done for uncovering this hidden beauty.
Oh that's good to know! I thought maybe because it's an external wall that it would be colder but great to know it's only cold if damp!
@@morrigans_cottage well you will need a wood burner etc. to heat up the walls, but stone holds heat for a long time (and very cool in summer too)! I also believe there is a way of doing lime rendering for the bad walls that is insulating (while allowing your house to breathe).
@WriterGeek I'll have to look into that for the lime, and yes a new wood burner will go in eventually as well!
Can you install floor heating?
These stone walls are beautiful.
@isola-bella the stone walls are so lovely I'm delighted with them! I think under floor heating is an option but I'm going to traditional rads and a free standing stove
So exciting. Looks in great shape too. Beautiful ❤️ please take care of yourself
Isn't it lovely! I'm so excited to have found it! Still smothered in this pesky cold but hoping it'll lift this week before I'm back down!
I'm a 71 year old granny from Washington State USA...I would help you with your chipping away at the walls and clean up if I could, it's all so exciting. 😊
It really is so exciting! And thank you I appreciate the sentiment! ❤️
I’m a 71 year old granny from Scotland, I would too ❤
@jangarr222 thank you! And also hello to Scotland it's gorgeous there ❤️
You finally found the fireplace and the stone wall looks good, be lovely when its re-pointed x
I know finally found it! Can't wait to get started on the repointing and rebuilding ❤️
@@morrigans_cottage onwards and upwards, so looking forward to seeing things unfold x
@melaniepowell9595 me too!!! I'm so impatient on it
What an exciting find!!
How exciting about the fireplace! Love your background music,so soothing.
I like the music too! And soo excited with the fire place find at long last something old in decent shape!
Hi the pieces of wood are fixings most likely to attach fireplace or wood panelling
Ah ok that makes total sense! It'll have to come out coz it's so rotten but I wasn't sure what it might be!
That blue would be beautiful too.
Wonderful wonderful find
I'm honestly delighted with it!
Cheers
My mom actually suggested the same thing! Definitely something worth thinking about once we get to the next phase of room picking!
Great minds. The stone wall is just beautiful and it needs to bee seen again after being covered for so long. Your little house is turning into quite the Cinderella story ❤
@jmch2186 it really is a Cinderella story! I love it great minds do think a like!
Legendary doing all that work yourself, good on you. Can already imagine you sitting at a crackling fire reading a book with dog and cat on lap.
@@vk8202 that sounds like the absolute dream, hopefully by next year that'll be the case ❤️
Brilliant video, so so pleased for you.
I'm thrilled was great to find it at last!
Wood either side is where they attached the surround
That makes total sense!! Thank you!
I am just trilled for you! What a fabulous find! I am with you, there is no way that the wall should be covered back up.
Take care, gargle with warm salt water! Sorry, my nursing instincts kicked in!
I appreciate the nursing instincts! I'm thrilled as well, finally such a great find!
wow looks you go girl !
What a wonderful find❤. The exposed wall gives such character to the place. Hope you feel better soon 💜
Thank you! Still smothered in this cold 😅 it really has changed the whole room and given so much character I'm thrilled to have found it!
Yes ,I would think there was a fireplace there,it was held in to those pieces of wood, and you can see where the mantle was.
That makes total sense!
Good job !
Thank you!
Power tool time 😁 What a great find. You’re doing well.
Such a great find! I'm delighted! Can't wait to fix it up and make it beautiful!
@@morrigans_cottage ❤
Hi Aisling, what a nice find! how wow would an office desk be, facing that fireplace though. I expect you might rethink things a few times, the house will tell you. Moving along at a good pace now, well done for soldiering on, but do take care of your health.
Thank you! I've been knocked by this cold all week it's been miserable but hopefully it lifts this weekend! Such a great find and it'll definitely give me a lot to think about layout wise
What a great find ❤
I'm thrilled with it!
Exactly the house will definitely tell me what it wants me to do! Such a great find on the fireplace!
Yeah you found it!
FINALLY! I thought I was going mad not finding it on the other wall!
Love the stone wall, are you going to clean out in-between them and put new filling, it would look beautiful
Yes! I'm doing some learning on repointing but I hope to start working on scraping out and repointing in December!
Oh my ! What a beautiful find. 😊💕🇨🇦
I'm so happy with it!! ❤️
@@marioncottell7285 well done 👍
Great find. Hope you feel better soon. 😮😊
Thank you, I've been knocked with a cold all week but hopefully will shake it off the next few days! Such a great find I'm delighted!
Well done ashling. For finding the fire place.. look after your throat...take it easy
Thank you, I'm thrilled to find it!! Still under the weather but hopefully better over the next few days ❤️
@morrigans_cottage yes get some rest 🤗
the airoboard and plasterboard were a 1980's way of dry lining houses, you'll be using high density insulated paster boards now. Ide buy the 50mm insulated ones. i wouldn't bother with the fireplace. opening it could end up costing you a lot. Get a stove instead
100% I'll probably keep it closed and have it as a decorative feature!
You’re making great progress - hope you feel better soon ❤
Thank you so much! I'm delighted with the find! Still have a cold but getting better every day!
@ just a thought if you used a crowbar to remove the wood holding the plaster board would it come off easier? Instead of taking pieces of plasterboard off first ?
@AlidaLloyd it might work easier for sure! Almost done now but I'll give it a try!
Oooh oh another fireplace? No i can't wait until fully revealed 😂
YAY! Any dodgy bits leave for builders esp on an external wall. Wood, part of fire surround perhaps?
That is looking like the wall to leave as feature and have plasterbiard behind the bed (less dust too). That is feckin' stunning ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Centred bed doesn’t matter, so long as there is access around.
Feel better soon Aisling
Thank you! Still a bit under the weather but hopefully better this week! Was so great to find the fireplace and the nice stone walls! Looking forward to getting back down and uncovering more ❤️❤️
Nice wall!! The worst part of demolition is cleaning up 😏
It really is the worst part 🤣🤣
You could wall up one of the doors in the room and then use it as a bed wall.
Yes that's definitely an option too! I kinda like the flow of the house with 2 doors in that room but I could definitely look to blocking up one
Thank you so much! The demolition diva is back! Altho I am hoping I'm nearing the end of demo and can start the rebuild! ❤️
We're with you all the way, really excited to share it with you and the babies, don't worry to much about cracks in walls as detached properties move and settle with the ground when it swells with rain and dries out in summer, the beauty of these old cottages is they stones move and shift unlike my 200 yr old detached property in London, because the bricks are fixed they crack with any ground movement., keep being you and all the good luck the gods can shower you with🙏❤️
the wood in the wall at the fireplace was an old fixing for the fireplace surround
That makes so much sense I don't know how I didn't think of that lol
I can’t work out which room you found the fireplace in, great find!!
I’ve worked it out now 👍
Glad you got it, sorry I should have said!
The cracking in the walls is probably due to subsidence from water ingress. It has to be investigated particularly that front external wall facing the road.
I am hoping it isn’t subsidence, it seems to just be on the inside but will definitely have it looked at :)
I wonder if you could expose the stone in the whole wall!
I'm hoping so! As much as I can expose I will!
Have you thought about asking any of the locals if they know the history of the cottage? Youd be surprised that some neighbours may even have old photographs. Also might be worth getting the stone sandblasted before pointing.
Yes I must ask the neighbours more about it, they have told me a little, id love to get some old photos of it!
the elusive fireplace shows up.
If you intend living here, will that mean commuting to Dublin every day. 😊❤
Thankfully not! I can work from home 3 days a week, so I'll only have to travel up 2 days which isn't too bad ❤️
@morrigans_cottage oh that's great. Super. 👍. Bon continuation. ❤️
@legrandeileen4863 thank you ♥️♥️
Sorry I am late to the grand reveal 2 inches of snow and we lose the electric, WORSE 23 hours after it came back on NO Internet for 3 days, can you believe that I was so mad.
🔨👷🏻♂️🔥Interesting old fireplace! Do you want to restore so you can use !
Just restoring the stone work and maybe stick an electric style stove there as the external chimneys were taken down a long time ago 😔
Where does the pipe run that's outside
I actually have no idea 😅
❤
I hope you enjoyed ❤️
I hope you don’t find another surprise once you pull out the blocks and cement. 😮
I also hope not 😅🤣
Maybe treasure behind the cement of the fireplace?? Hah, good thought, tho right! Good job. 🎉
A pot of gold would be great 🤣
@morrigans_cottage can't wait to see what's behind that beautiful fireplace... good luck ✨️ and good morning up and baking in my new set of le creuset dang the french sure know how! 😀
@aprildixon-ff1bc ohhh yum!! Great way to start the day!
@morrigans_cottage bread and brownies. I'm trying to keep busy, you know why! :)
@aprildixon-ff1bc it's good to keep busy ♥️♥️ love from me and the girls ♥️♥️♥️
Make he fireplace open to 2= both rooms.
That's definitely a good idea!
Maybe another room will make a better bedroom option
It's really the only room big enough for a full time master bedroom, the rest are a little small but it could be used as something else
How about just moving the door to center the bed and have the view of the fireplace. Seems like the easiest solution.
I'll have to see a out moving the door it might be hard but definitely will check with the builder!
Save your strength and effort by filling the wheelbarrow as you go instead of clearing up afterwards. It's a great job you are tackling.
I do try to, for taking the cement off I was trying to stand back in case anything started to fall down that shouldnt
Wooohoo, I guessed correctly!, if that’s an outside wall could it be an external chimney? 😉
Also, you will have to rake out all the cement and repoint with lime to help the walls “breathe”, it’s going to look fabulous Aisling x
You did guess right!! There could be a chimney hidden in the wall somewhere but externally it's long gone
@@morrigans_cottage Could a chimney be added?, maybe Dessie and Francie could work there magic! 😉
@@Lesley-p4k so actually in-between the stones is mud 😅 which will make it a lot easier to take out at least!
@@Lesley-p4k definitely something to think about!
