are we just going to ignore how incredible these lyrics are? they're so poetic and succinct in their message, and it's absolutely a pleasure to listen to. you don't get such admirable lyrics in songs these days
@@ivaerak hah, yeah I’m good! I think Robert Smith kinda fell off though so I stand by was and had! The bloke is probably having a diarrhea shit in his toilet right now, but it’s still more talented than us to be fair.
I do still love the way Robert Smith moves on stage. Love his amazing voice. Love his smile, the way he sings, the beautiful man he is. Love The way he plays the guitar. Love The CURE. Friendly from France
I love this song, and the story it tells! Very nice live version, it's great to see Robert himself singing the tune I've listened to so many times in my life...
Lyrics: It started with a dedication Lost in admiration happy birthday I'm forever yours blossom Faded red inside a tiny book of butterflies I smiled surprised at how when flickered through The wings flew by spelled out my name Six months went by the summer lost Obsessively the letters dropped into my life The same soft blood smooth flowing hand Please try to understand I have to see you have to feel you Tell you all the ways I need you yours forever in love Strange attraction spreads it's wings It varies but the smallest things You never know how anything will change Strange attraction spreads it's wings And alters but the smallest things You never know how anything will fade The year grew old incessantly she wrote to me She'd started smoking poetry I laughed in recognition of a favourite phrase She'd pulled me in I answered her A Christmas card in sepia Arranging when and where And how the two of us should meet Her opening so well prepared A nervous smile I couldn't take my eyes from her She whispered Can I use some of your lipstick? It was perfect so believable I couldn't help but feel that it was real And kissing crimson fell into her waiting arms Strange attraction spreads it's wings It varies but the smallest things You never know how anything will change Strange attraction spreads it's wings And alters but the smallest things You never know how anything will fade So alone into the cold new year without another word from her I wrote to ask if we could maybe meet again before the spring But weeks went by with no reply until once more my birthday came And with it my surprise but this time nothing was the same I'm sorry blame infatuation blame imagination I was sure you'd be the one but I was wrong It seems reality destroys our dreams I won't forget you blossom Faded red inside a tiny book of old goodbyes Strange attraction spreads it's wings It varies but the smallest things You never know how anything will change Strange attraction spreads it's wings And alters but the smallest things And you never know, and you never know, and you never know
Although, actually Spotify has different lyrics, but I'm CERTAIN the ones in the sleeve from the original CD had words, not blood. I'm going to have to try and dig out the CD booklet to check now!
I remember staying up too watch them on Conan.... but before the closing credits of the show they returned and they played "A Forest" and got cut off mid song at the end... looked all over for that performance with no success... It was awesome as i recalled..
I remember seeing this live on T.V.. in 96-97 and being so pumped for this album....I either just bought it or was about to. It was a perfect album at that time in my life, although I always lived "Disintegration" the most, and there are too many favorites of "The Cure" for me to list..I am a Cure fanatic since age 15! 😍💜🖤💚
I'm in total agreement with some of your comments The 'Cure' with its sometimes ,sardonic,Moody dark Gothic rock style was one of the last great bands of the rock era and one of the last great ones that personified the 90s which many considered the last decade of truly great music after which from 2000 till present have been few & far between just like what happened to MTV & V-h1 when they first appeared they were like rock gods everybody wanted to see their videos who could ever have thought that they would all become vintage classics seen on your smart phone because that's one of the few places you can see them.those two shows have turned like the rest of today's music into something you would flush down ones toilet & hope it didn't come back up.very sad.
@@whatsforafters7843 I remember being home to record it. The only reason I know the date they played was because I was in NYC for the last 2 shows on September 16th and 17th.
The Radio City show was my first Cure concert and they were tremendous. I just saw them again Summer 2023 for Songs of A Lost World and they were even tremendous -er. Robert Smith's voice is still incredibly intact and supple and the band is just extraordinary. I hope I don't have to wait another 27 years to see them again. 🤓🖤❤️
I love how shoegaze and uncaring the whole band looks except for Roger O’Donnell who just looks like he’s having a blast playing those keys lmao. Great band great song great performance.
lol every single bass player who plays a firebird is a weirdo. all of them. not in a bad way but let's just all agree that it's a thing. anyway this song rules and sounds exactly like, well, the year 1996

Totally agree...
Yes absolutely. Robert Smith was such a poet, and it didn’t hurt that he had such a fantastic band backing him. Amazing song and performance here.

My best underrated the cure song. At least I grew up in my teenage years experiencing 1996, what a great time for music.
Robert Smith is a musical & lyrical GENIUS!!
The keyboard player in black is a excellent keyboard player

Two of my favorite Cure songs. First is Same Deep Water as You.

Thought the same!!!
And he is sooooo in tune. Love him...
Lyrics:
It started with a dedication
Lost in admiration happy birthday I'm forever yours blossom
Faded red inside a tiny book of butterflies
I smiled surprised at how when flickered through
The wings flew by spelled out my name
Six months went by the summer lost
Obsessively the letters dropped into my life
The same soft blood smooth flowing hand
Please try to understand I have to see you have to feel you
Tell you all the ways I need you yours forever in love
Strange attraction spreads it's wings
It varies but the smallest things
You never know how anything will change
Strange attraction spreads it's wings
And alters but the smallest things
You never know how anything will fade
The year grew old incessantly she wrote to me
She'd started smoking poetry
I laughed in recognition of a favourite phrase
She'd pulled me in
I answered her
A Christmas card in sepia
Arranging when and where
And how the two of us should meet
Her opening so well prepared
A nervous smile
I couldn't take my eyes from her
She whispered
Can I use some of your lipstick?
It was perfect so believable
I couldn't help but feel that it was real
And kissing crimson fell into her waiting arms
Strange attraction spreads it's wings
It varies but the smallest things
You never know how anything will change
Strange attraction spreads it's wings
And alters but the smallest things
You never know how anything will fade
So alone into the cold new year without another word from her
I wrote to ask if we could maybe meet again before the spring
But weeks went by with no reply until once more my birthday came
And with it my surprise but this time nothing was the same
I'm sorry blame infatuation blame imagination
I was sure you'd be the one but I was wrong
It seems reality destroys our dreams I won't forget you blossom
Faded red inside a tiny book of old goodbyes
Strange attraction spreads it's wings
It varies but the smallest things
You never know how anything will change
Strange attraction spreads it's wings
And alters but the smallest things
And you never know, and you never know, and you never know
*the same soft words, through flowing hand.

The fourth and final single from, 'Wild Mood Swings', "Strange Attraction". Good tune, reminiscent of their 1980's singles.
Robby...like my big bro, always excellent!
The keyboard player in black looks really happy
Roger o donell was fucking pretty.
Coca? 😎🤔😄
Great live performance. Awesome
Great performance!

Thanks for putting this up. Never saw this Conan performance before.

The Cure are still at it to this day. They have put on some of their best shows in the past 5 years. The Swing Tour does hold a place for me though.
There is good music. You just have to find it.
As about to close to perfect as it gets.
This was actually in September of 1996. It was September 16th, 1996. In between their last 2 shows at Radio City Music Hall.
Thanks for the info. The date with the original post, was the air-date [month] that my tape captured it.

24 years later and I’m still like “Where’s Boris?!?”
Exactly where he wanted to be, NOT IN THE CURE.
Sadly he decided to leave... Then all of a sudden The Cure got weak snare drum sounds like the one here.
This is the album I tuned out on. Cool guitar though.
The Cure un 2020

Was the keys girl involved with Robby. Her awkward glances said something! Nope downright stares!
off the meter.
Mystery woman!
It bothers me that the stereo mix is backwards and that Perry's keyboard is in the left speaker, haha.
Caught up in the young angst of the Seattle Sound. Young P&V! Thought The Cure was a faggy band but found otherwise.
_KONGA O RANA_ Y THE CURE

No. No, he's not.
