@Xx Yy There were different versions of the disc. Mine had Metal Gear Solid, MediEvil, Tomb Raider 3, Crash Bandicoot Warped, and some weird future cop car battle game
Andrew i remember i had CD there was Medievil Fifth Element Tomb raider(the one in south america with monkeys and logs) Akuji. Ohhhhh those games were gems! Each game was superb!
It's so strange when hardware limitations can improve on a game's themes or atmosphere, the black fog and the "dirtier" sound really added a lot to the game's feel, I'm glad more people get to experience games like this one, even if it's a little different from my own experience.
Yeah sometimes the original has the atmosphere nailed down better even on inferior hardware. I agree that the ps1 aesthetic is more to my liking. I'll have to replay it some time to see if the framerate or animations disorient me. If it does, I might ditch it for good.
Its also nice you can play the original in the remake aswell if you collect some collectables so you can experience it in both ways its a nice little bonus
True, it reminds me of the first Silent Hill felt really scary because of the pitch dark and fog everywhere which were solutions to the hardware limitations. Later Silent Hill games didn't feel as scary. Also the Pools of the Ancient Dead, I loved the original that was more brown looking and the pools were scary blue bubbly as well as the lightning strikes that constantly surrounded the pools, for some reason the remake has none of those which makes it more lame but at least it was waaaay better than the Pools of the Ancient Dead that appeared on the Medievil Resurrection (PSP).
the first version of the glass demon was soooo iconic: the moment of pause from music, the anticipation of the sound of the heart, it felt horrifying as a kid!
Once again the modern obsession with music needing to be used everywhere as loudly and bombastically as possible ruins things. You're right that the lack of music and the sound of the heartbeat made that fight soooo terrifying as a child. Now it's just overdone and not interesting.
@@IAmDaedem Yup, too much noise in combat, even the opening scene doesn't have the level of clairty. The original did so much more with such clear limitations, the new one is better in a lot of respects... But falls short in enough places that I am just feeling wistful.
I wish some of the sound design had more bass or lower frequencies to the noises. Low tones add to the dark atmosphere which I liked more from the old MediEvil
I had a section where I talked about the changes to the audio - especially the low groans of the zombies and the snorting that the imps make, but I decided just to show the full scenes instead.. and yeah.. i absolutely prefer the older sound effects. Easily one of the most noticeable changes.
I would say, that the reason was the audio compression back in the day. In the intro scene it's very audible, that there is almost no treble. And like P Holmes mentioned, crank up the bass in the TV audio settings, especially if you don't have a dedicated audiosystem with sub, cause TV speakers are thin af.
Da Big Bad Wolf The second one is also the far HARDER game. While I think the Kira love story must be brought to the 21st century, the idea of health fountains that vanish permanently for the rest of the Game was a TERRIBLE idea.
I love the remake, I kind of don’t like how Dan leans back when he runs and I miss the zombie moans, but it’s not that big an issue. Overall it’s beautiful and faithful to the original
Pretty much my thoughts exactly. There are some minor things I wish they'd kept but overall I think it's a good experience. Not sure I'll come back to this over emulating the original in the future though.
@@slimymcbrazy7691 yep, remember the ps1 was a first Gen CD tech console. They were capitalizing on two things 3d graphics and CD storage. The latter let them put real samples in for everything for the first time. Also most games back then had CD soundtracks. Most devs today put sound in as secondary when it's not. Look at older games like thief where footsteps and eavesdropping made the atmosphere the ps4 game didn't have that as much. I remember back in the early 2000s when sound blaster live hit we had hardware accelerated 3d sound and everything had eax effects with extra ummph and reverb or environment effects. Also real 3d positional aduio, they don't do that anymore either. I remember playing Battlefield Vietnam that came with my Soundblaster audigy pro card. You could hear footsteps of someone sneaking up on you and know which direction, there was also multiple voices at once and sound layers. That was because integrated sound off the cpu doesn't do all the cool stuff the hardware sound did. And for pc microsoft removed the abilitiy with Vista when it removed direct sound. None of those old cards worked right anymore. You would think console makers would put more into sound but nope. They followed pcs with the integrated approach. Consoles also used to have dedicated sound chips now it's done via cpu, which are already taxed.
I actually like the originals reveal of the stain glass demon more than the remake, it was scarier, more ominous. The music cuts out and everything but the glass goes black and all you hear is its heartbeat.
I personally like the majority of the remake however I disliked quite a few minor things about it, mostly sound designs such as > the healing fountain in the original, Dan used to make a sigh of relief as he was healed which was omitted in the remake, > the heartbeat of the mausoleum demon being removed in the remake, > the zombie noises and the soul coming out of the dead enemies sound better in the original in my opinion, they were a bit over the top but the new ones feel generic. As for the visual aspect, I feel like the game lost some of its darker atmosphere in favor of a more comical approach to things, similar to the psp remake but to a lesser extent. Overall, a good remake which could have been great with some more tweaking.
I agree, try playing a game with the darkness as low as possible, most adjust up until they see the first symbol that's supposed to be hidden and then go down, do the reverse go as low as possible and go up making sure you can see the middle symbol clearly, but not too well. May add better atmosphere to games such as this with that "eerie/creepy" feel.
I like more the original's SFX, Such as when fly away the enemy soul, its so great and mystical. Then i think the menu or Ui sound fx also better then the remake .... the remake have so usual sound Fx for those scene.
I don't remember alot about MediEvil since I was around 7 when I played it but when I heard all the original SFX it brought back alot of good memories!
The demo was always timed, I remember speed running it and getting to the wolves at the end of return to the graveyard before the demo shut off. Was quite a feat.
Yeah same, that zombie made me scared from the zombies in game, they felt more scary even tho they look super low poly. The new ones are fine, they have a modern design style
I absolutely love the remake, but I wish some of the sounds were more similar to the original, like the healing fountain, the imps, the souls, the zombies, and navigating the UI.
I feel like the newer character designs of the zombies and other monsters take away from the Nightmare before Christmas look the original was going for, but it seems to be a faithful recreation non-theless.
Indeed, sound design is just as good, but higher pitched, level design is even better, but similar to the silent hill remasters, the removal of the "fog of war"(or, well, actual fog) makes the gane lose a big part of the mood as well as an excess in particle and dynamic lighting over static pre-set lighting(there's a good reason why authorial games like dark souls still use mostly static lighting...) As for the character design changes, as you said, it's very evident, I under why they did that, the original was probably meant to be less scary than it actually was for many kids(hence the goofier psp remake) but... I liked that honestly, maybe because horror games pretty much never have an effect on me, but that gothic, fairytale-like feeling yet so moody and dark look... It's something i've been longing to experience again for so long, replaying games like maximo and regretting not being able to play Folklore, yet the medievil remake just barely missed the mark, i may get it on sale, but unfortunately it lacks, even if just by a tiny bit, the one thing i loved medievil the most for, that one thing that shaped my tastes in aesthetics without me even noticing till now. I guess i can still play the original, some of the early harry potter, Castlevania and ghosts 'n ghouls games to get that though...
Pretty sad when even old Harry Potter games had that dark and dreary atmosphere we're craving. (I remember it though; both Sorcerers Stone and Chamber of Secrets felt dark and hopeless at times, gods I miss that)
The original was good, with the silence before the explosion of glass, the sound of the heartbeat, the darkening of the atmosphere apart from the glass. Original was eh
Fr it was almost kinda scary with the hard beat, and sharp edges. Not to mention the background going dark. It felt like there was an actual sense of danger.
For as nice as the remake looks, I still very much prefer the outdoors sounddesign of the classic. The indoor sounddesign of the remake on the other hand is actually pretty nice. Its almost like they swapped the feel around, for as weird as that may sound.
Heart wrenching to not hear some of the iconic sounds, recreated in the 2019 version; the Chalice souls, the Imps and the Zombies. The sound effects in general, all seem to have been toned down quite a bit, in order to be more realistic/generic. I wish they had stuck to a darker, eerie aesthetic. I think the moments of levity worked in the original Medieval, because they stood out among the incredibly creepy atmosphere. Now everything is trying to be "goofy" and "wacky", it just feels like something is missing. If it ever comes to PC I will _absolutely_ buy it in a heartbeat, I *love* Medievil. This was my favourite title growing up, but I feel like I'd still find myself going back to the original. I guess I won't know for certain until I play it, so just got to pray to God it comes to Steam/GOG.
Well, if you do like the original more, put all of the lost Souls to rest in the remake and the game gives you a little reward (You will be able to play the old version)
@@profoundpro O yes I spent hours on trying to finish a boss, then i just realized you just had to hit the Chandelier. I love the style of that game and the puzzles, I bet now you can finish with a Adult mind;)
@Turok Hilsen Right, but what I was getting at is that the original had so much more creepy atmosphere. Dark and dank like the feeling you'd get from walking into an abandoned house. The remaster looks like it was made by Disney
@@ZerotheeHero Well.. it was either that, or delay the game into November.. which... why? Nobody wants a game clearly tailored as a Halloween game around Thanksgiving
11:25 I liked the beating heart sound effect and transparent glass they had there. The new version feels like they just skipped brushing him up. A nice job overall.
Yeah i was scrolling to sed if someone mentioned this. The whole effect od the heart beating and givinf life to the demon and showing the heart through his cheat used to really creep me our as a kid but i loved it. Same with the death animation its not as good. But i do have to say i think they did the best anyone could on this remake, with the tone and colors and everything
@@amirpourghoureiyan1637 ive played every medival game, i grew up with the original. And really i dont think it so much comes down to art direction as it does system limitation. Theres alot of early 3d late 90s games i remember amd i remember at rhat time getting into proramming games with this starter engine, and you have really dark pitch black background, torch lighting that gives this ominous orange glow, and these blocky figures, its an atmospheric look ive tried to recreate since, but sadly im inable to find the engine i originally used, and its impossible to recreate today, even if you use the worst lighting you can find in a modern engine or no lighting. Thats why i think they did the best possible job recreatinf this game while staying true to the original. They even used all the original level geometry with no changes or liberties taken for small things, it was very accurate. The issue is how do you recreate something like medieval. You could trt a super realistic art style, like dark souls or red dead redemption, bjt then would jack look out of place, would it ruin the aestitic? I think medieval has an impossible to recreate style and they did the best possibme job ive seen, in really mkst remakes. It was insanely faithful to the original. That being said i would love to see hkw it would look if it waa done in a darker realistic engine, and had the zombies look real, and jacks bones look real and rotted, i just dont knlw how much other cartoony parts of the game like zaroks boss look and other things would clash
@@Mibit911 I mostly agree but as pointed out in the video, certain assets were redesigned such as the zombie and zaroks face, I do have to point out though that I am really pleased with the remake's outcome regardless of the issues I have with it. But since this is such a big leap in technology it would have made it a lot better for fans to have the option to customize the game to match the original if they wanted to, because of this artistic license taken in the remake - the models, lighting/palette and soundscape has departed so much from the original that it has caused issue with many fans including myself, as mentioned before changing the atmosphere from one of macabre and foreboding to more of a tame and kid-friendly atmosphere with the additions made.
i must say the originals music is amazing, i wish it was an option to use it in this remake. yeah i think overall i prefer the sound design of the original.
I remember playing the original from a demo. Then found out we had the full game in a box. It was a year after the release and stuck in a box kinda hurt my little heart.
I've had this feeling many times with remastered games. When I see the new version, I can hardly tell anything's changed. But then I go back to the original and am awestruck at how different it is to my memory.
I adored this remake, I just got the Platinum over the weekend. I'm surprised you didn't mention the addition of the Lost Souls missions that were added to give it some extra game time, which I also thought was a very nice touch.
Yep. Mom couldnt afford it being a singlr parent of me and my 2 brothers but now with the remake and being able to unlock yhe original in game allows me to finally play it 20 years later. Ive already got the platinum so im running througj on the original now
I love the old enemy designs more so than the new ones. However, I’m digging the new character design of the protagonist, and the antagonist. I also am enjoying the updated sound effects and music. And the graphics with updated lighting adds to the atmosphere. One small thing sacrificed for many upgraded feats? I think that I’m OK with that.
The whole 1998 game looked way more creepy. it was something created with a total different mood. I mean, the first one had something really dark in every contest!
@جارمين كيل Wow man you are so cool, do you really care about extra letters in the word way to make it more exaggerated and the misuse of creepier? Dude you are so smart and really cool.
I like the remake but I miss some of the oldest sound effects that made the game more atmospheric and spooky pd: i love the original soundtrack of The Hilltop Mausoleum. In the remake... idk, it seems that they transformed it into marching music xD
People complain and pick on small details but at the end of the days we should just be grateful that such a great game got remade, so many years later.
@5:44 I like the "brightly lit shopping mall" look of the original. When games start applying more "realistic" lighting, they also tend to lose color. This happens both from the artists trying to pick more "realistic" colors to match, and due to how the new lighting interacts with object colors. 1998 MediEval's contrasting light and dark brown floor is replaced with generic blue-grey blocks. The blue-purple and brown walls are replaced with the same generic blue-grey blocks. One could argue that 2019 MediEval adds more color to the wall gargoyle with a new wood base and glowing purple elements, but the 2019 version *had* to add such details to keep the now dull grey head from blending completely into the now dull blue-grey wall, an issue not present with the bright 1998 design. Even Sir Dan's bright red is replaced with dull dark red (that lights white instead of a brighter red), his purple replaced with dull metal, and his yellow replaced with dull yellow/brass that ends up blending with the other dull metal..
Probably because of the originals limitations at the time, but it worked well with the limitations,in fact, some bits worked off the limitation, but the new one gets some better stuff, like camera control
This is how I feel about Medievil... If the original is A Nightmare before Christmas, The new one is Toy Story 4. The new one definitely lacks the darker tone of the original.
I think alot of it had to do with the quality of the original. Sometimes the old quality of games makes them scary or scarier. But if they did try to make the remastered scary, would it change the style a little? Because alot of the visuals is pretty much the same but obviously upgraded but at the same time still goofy. Don't know how else they could of done it really unless turn completely away from the cartoony look but again imo it would change the style even more so.
@@F34RDSoldier805 exactly! the original version's low res graphics lended so well to the gothic and macabre atmosphere, it helped make the game appealing not only to kids but also adults as it struck the balance just right with goofy characters and demented environmental features
Disagree completely. The PSP version was already an improvement over the original, in my view, so this one is only even better. I’m all for unique aesthetics and putting substance before graphical quality, but this game just isn’t an example of that notion
@@Floral_Green The PS4 remake is a very faithful remake but I wish they went more the way the PSP one was and tweak stuff. I much prefer the gargoyles from the PSP version over the heads on the walls of the original and ps4. The Hall of heroes also has a very different look in the PSP version and the heroes actually come to life instead of their statues only moving very little.
There was a time when I was sitting down, playing through FFXII watching one of the CGI cutscenes, amd asking myself "I wonder if we'll ever get a game that looks as good as this does all the time". And now we live in an age where games like God of War, NieR: Automata, and Breath of the Wild exist, among others. It's amazing to think about how far video games have come.
s-925 d-925 Not nostalgia. I’ve never played either, and the old one has a more unique, dark, twisted vibe that the new one lacks. New one looks just like a plants versus zombies game to me lol
I don't think it's just nostalgia, I've literally never played or watched someone play this game and from seeing this comparison, the original has sort of an indescribable warm feeling that the remake doesn't seem to replicate
@@Crurvid In the original, I think it's the heavy use of darkness contrasting with the warm palette they chose. The remaster has cooler colours overall, thanks to the new lighting.
I love pretty much everything about it, even though I kinda miss the black fog as it gave the whole game a rather oppressive feel, capitalising on the updated graphics as they did is an obvious must for the remake so it doesn't bother me too much. But oh my God I miss the original sound design, the new one... I don't know, it just misses out on some of the atmosphere. I mean, just look at the introduction to the Stained glass demon, I would say the reason it's so iconic is purely because of that intro and the sound design around it, the new one is just... Meh. Still, it isn't bad, I'm definately enjoying it.
Black fog is one of the best things about the ps1...games feel too realistic now but in that era they felt like a game, like they're separated from real life.
For those of you complaining about the remake not being perfect, well I’ve got news for ya: if you find all the lost souls, you unlock the entirety of the old version of the game.
They way they removed all the yellow torches that Illuminated the dark and instead went for a consistent moonlit glow takes away from the dark and creepy vibe from the original. How hard is it to just make the game look better instead of contorting the whole vibe?
There is probably more polygons in his eyeball than there was in the entire original game. P.S. Romero zombies are not Cliche they are the original zombie :P
I prefer the colors in the original. Ps1 era games just have so much charm to them. I would've preferred they made a new medievil game instead of of this.
That was my biggest gripe with the Spyro remake. The color palates in the original in all of the worlds were really good and the remake redoes all of the coloring styles
The remake is amazing, but the sounds have always bothered me. I wish there was an option to choose between the original and new audio. Even though the sound Sir Daniel made when taking damage was much more human in the original it would make the game much more nostalgic. Same goes for the enemies.
This game was NEVER FORGOTTEN........by me lol. I think both the original and the remake are absolutely OUT OF THIS WORLD. Still the best game i have ever played and none are closer to my my heart than the original 1998 MediEvil and MediEvil 2 which came out in the year 2000 which i hope they remake that one too.
@Dam Sen That annoying fucking thing in Dan's head ruined the entire game. Overall it's...really whatever, wouldn't recommend it at all over the original.
Dam Sen Not at all, it’s great. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in recent years, it’s that superficial consensus directed at popular media can be safely disregarded
You forgot to talk about the fact that they added the the strafe move into this game that let's dan move right left and backwards while staying faced in one Direction with R2. This let' dan dodge projectiles very easily when using his range weapons.
Controversy Owl The first game actually does have a side stepping mechanic, but it‘s rather cumbersome. It only works if you standstill for a moment and press either left or right while holding R1. You can’t move forwards or backwards otherwise it will cancel out, making it rather ineffective in most combat situations.
Sony picked the absolute WORST time to release this game. Modern Warfare just came out, Red Dead 2 next week, Jedi Fallen Order on the 15th etc. Hopefully it doesn't completely bomb and we can get a proper sequel.
Red dead 2 this year is just a PC release, Jedi Fallen Order will just be brought by Star Wars nerds and geeks and Modern Warfare will be ignored cause Casuals already getting offended by its content even before release.
@@Nick930 Only based it off Twitter goofballs and articles whining over the content it provides and seeing how some people reacted about stuff like the white Phosphorus and kid soldier killing people.
I'm gonna get rich and buy a PS4 just to play this game. This was my all time favourite game as a child. Started with the demo before my mum bought me it one Christmas.
drawing sir daniel fortesque was my favorite thing as child, he was funny yet spooky and as a 8 year old the opening scene was really scary. but what can you say when even the resident evil 2 opening where the eye shows and dude says 'resident evil' in sinister voice was too much for me lmao
The "goofiness" that replaces the darker undertones of the original makes me like the original way better. Also, totally partial to the original audio because nostalgia, but the new sounds are very well done.
I agree, of all the sound design changes i don't like, that is the main one. The original seems more fitting for a being made of glass (Kinda reminds me of the sounds you can make with a wine glass), whereas the new one sounds too organic and beastlike. Another unusual thing to pick on is the design. The original's eyes looked like they were made of glass, the new version is glowing like the other creatures. And oddly enough, I find the all in one mouth that's entirely glass more unsettling than the fully movable jaw.
I absolutely adore this series, had the PS1, PSP and now this one. No matter the form I just get sucked into it’s goofy loomy world. I’ll admit, the PS4 looks beautiful, of course like many remakes you have it’s cons and pros. I think one main thing that gave the PS1 game an edge and terrified me as a kid was due to how limited the graphics are(like well pretty much any other game at the time) but that limit of course just pushed my imagination further, putting things in place that wasn’t there and just amped that “spooky” factor. At the end of the day though I love this game in whatever form they’ve been churning it out in. Now here’s to hoping that they make the sequel.
This is so beautiful! The macabre video games of the 90's hold a lot of romance and splendor. I'm pleased they did MediEvil justice with this remake. Maybe someday someone will do the same for the Legacy of Kain series.
The remake is visually impressive, but tbh something I'm not really a fan of is the overly exaggerated movements of the characters. It's something I don't really care for in most computer animated films as well.
the change I was most disappointed about was the map theme, it barely has any substance, and I found myself waiting for notes from the original that never came, it's like they removed notes and entire phrases from the soundtracks just to sound more "mysterious" or something. Way less memorable soundtracks, but the gameplay was really enjoyable, and I don't regret this pre-order (although imo the super armour looks forgettable...but that a story for another day)
One big mystery for me was how they messed up the cutscenes in the remake. The original scenes were rhythmically accurate and well edited for their time. The mood of these new ones did not get anywhere near. The final scene, in particular, lost almost all of the atmosphere of the original. For example the dawn had been changed to night and the eye disappeared in a dull way without retreating to the skull. The cutscenes seemed to be done in a hurry without passion and it's pretty unforgivable.
SodomaMuikku while I can see your point, I think the term “unforgivable” is a tad bit dramatic. The cutscenes (certain character models in general) are much more comedic. I agree this detracts from the overall dark tones established with the original; however, these changes were not rushed. The game had years of development, more time than most modern remakes. As such, the changes are consciously made to give the game a lighter tone. With a more realistic graphical engine, the fully realized character models were most likely too grotesque - especially for them to maintain the teen rating. While I can see why this is a let down, I don’t think it to be fair to call it “rushed” and “passionless.” After all, game studios often overwork and underpay their employees. Even if it was rushed, it is ultimately the deadline of the publisher that dictates the quality of the game. Care takes time, details take time; while the game is being developed, no money is made. Because of this, to meet the bottom line, titles are usually rushed. Despite this, I don’t think the same can be said about this remake. In whole, it appears to be a faithful remake; albeit, with some disappointing liberties having been made.
Haven't played the remake since I don't have a PS4 but it seems like a great homage, really. I do prefer the original since it has far more of a gothic and dark atmosphere while the remake seems to lean more towards the goofy/comic aspect of the game. Really nice video comparison!
I remember playing this when I was alot younger! Didn't even know there was a remake. This looks so cool!! I remember the zombie noises and everything XD
The original really dosent get the praise it deserves. The remakes fun to play to see the improvments. But the original has a certain charm and style that just dosent come through on the new one.
None of these changes are an improvement. It's like they felt obligated to spend their virtually limitless graphical resources. The modern lighting and shadows make items more difficult to see, so they overcompensate for it by giving everything glowing particle effects and having them bounce up and down like it's fucking banjo kazooie. The talking gargoyles used to be wise and dignified, now they move their face around randomly like they've got parkinsons disease. The changes miss the point of what the original graphics were depicting. Your stone doorway example, they gave the slabs it's made up of ornate carvings. That doesn't make sense to do, the reason it's made up of different shaped blocks on each side is because it's supposed to be crudely made in the first place. Nobody would spend ages putting ornate carvings into a doorway made of leftover stones like that. Or another example, the soil in the graveyard. In the original game you could see the ground embedded with dozens of skeletal remains in broken and rotted ancient coffins. That's supposed to tell the player the graveyard is ancient and overcrowded, it's supposed to be revolting and sinister. Now those details are removed, we have a super-high-res plain topsoil texture that says nothing. Or the skull on the entrance hut to the crypt. In the original game it was painted on the wall, it had sinister black eye sockets. Now it's a high polycount statue that's paradoxically less detailed than before. The atmosphere is completely ruined by the developers being too interested in showing off bells and whistles to listen to what the original game was trying to say in the first place.
Well, it makes sense that they would incorporate some of the improvements from it's sequel into the remake. The weapon swapping mechanic and the block moving improvements.

the first version of the glass demon was soooo iconic: the moment of pause from music, the anticipation of the sound of the heart, it felt horrifying as a kid!
I agree completely. The newer version doesn't give me the same jitters that the original did.
Once again the modern obsession with music needing to be used everywhere as loudly and bombastically as possible ruins things. You're right that the lack of music and the sound of the heartbeat made that fight soooo terrifying as a child. Now it's just overdone and not interesting.

@Dam Sen I honestly just think few developers prioritize sound. Respawn, Dice and CDProjekt Red do a great job of it at least.

The second one is also the far HARDER game. While I think the Kira love story must be brought to the 21st century, the idea of health fountains that vanish permanently for the rest of the Game was a TERRIBLE idea.

I think it has something to do with retro sound design that just makes their effects stand out so much better than modern sounds.
Yup, Exactly the same with the Spyro remakes, almost all of the sound effects are a downgrade and no where near as memorabe.
its because probably most of the sounds in the original were actually recorded and not synthesized, like in the remake.
Maybe because they had more repetition or something
I wouldn't say better, but they give a different atmosphere for sure.
I actually like the originals reveal of the stain glass demon more than the remake, it was scarier, more ominous. The music cuts out and everything but the glass goes black and all you hear is its heartbeat.

> the healing fountain in the original, Dan used to make a sigh of relief as he was healed which was omitted in the remake,
> the heartbeat of the mausoleum demon being removed in the remake,
> the zombie noises and the soul coming out of the dead enemies sound better in the original in my opinion, they were a bit over the top but the new ones feel generic.
As for the visual aspect, I feel like the game lost some of its darker atmosphere in favor of a more comical approach to things, similar to the psp remake but to a lesser extent.
Overall, a good remake which could have been great with some more tweaking.
I really miss the imps squealing and I totally agree with your points
MarVellous I like the original ver of the heart demon. UwU it was prettier.
Good points, all of those audio cues are definitely in need of being in the game, esecially the sigh of relief after healing to 100%
Now thats what i call nitpicking.
The sound I miss the most is the one that played when charging the strong attacks. The warbling energy sound made it feel magical and powerful.
One thing I dont like about modern games is they never have pitch black darkness like in ps1
I agree, try playing a game with the darkness as low as possible, most adjust up until they see the first symbol that's supposed to be hidden and then go down, do the reverse go as low as possible and go up making sure you can see the middle symbol clearly, but not too well. @Nei I don't think you played the game, the Gothic influence is still VERRRY noticeable

The original still has atmosphere the remake fails to deliver

I think alot of it had to do with the quality of the original. Sometimes the old quality of games makes them scary or scarier. But if they did try to make the remastered scary, would it change the style a little? Because alot of the visuals is pretty much the same but obviously upgraded but at the same time still goofy. Don't know how else they could of done it really unless turn completely away from the cartoony look but again imo it would change the style even more so.

Everyone take a moment to remember Mr apple. They should have never removed his magic hat :'(. RIP
This is so beautiful! The macabre video games of the 90's hold a lot of romance and splendor. I'm pleased they did MediEvil justice with this remake. Maybe someday someone will do the same for the Legacy of Kain series.
What most of us are here for though is how “bugger” is said by Zarok
The remake is visually impressive, but tbh something I'm not really a fan of is the overly exaggerated movements of the characters. It's something I don't really care for in most computer animated films as well.
the change I was most disappointed about was the map theme, it barely has any substance, and I found myself waiting for notes from the original that never came, it's like they removed notes and entire phrases from the soundtracks just to sound more "mysterious" or something. Way less memorable soundtracks, but the gameplay was really enjoyable, and I don't regret this pre-order (although imo the super armour looks forgettable...but that a story for another day)
Like new version.
.
But my childhood become fully imagination from the classic :)
Thx legend.
While I can see why this is a let down, I don’t think it to be fair to call it “rushed” and “passionless.”
After all, game studios often overwork and underpay their employees.
2010's are just 90's remastered in 4k
These videos make me proud of gaming. Its come a long way.
I want a Nightmare Creatures Remake!
They did remake Nightmare Creatures but its just called Bloodborne.
I think this is the best remake in history, no other remake is as good and faithful.
Well done on the comparison and thank you
Childhood memories!
I remember playing this when I was alot younger! Didn't even know there was a remake. This looks so cool!! I remember the zombie noises and everything XD
you know what?
I'm about to say it
I think the psp remake captured the spirit more effectively.
Thank you
Great video. Thanks for taking me back.
They really missed the mark with the colors. The new brighter look could easily be mistaken for Fortnite at a glance.
@Mar shall The original game did not look like Fortnite is my point.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Graphic fetishism, and ego-driven design not wanting to honor the original vision.
Well, it makes sense that they would incorporate some of the improvements from it's sequel into the remake. The weapon swapping mechanic and the block moving improvements.
