If I had a coin every time a horror classic, about a group of folks isolated alongside an extraterrestial monster, got an awesome sequel where a squad of armed military fight against a significantly larger number of the extraterrestial monsters, I'd have two which isn't a lot, but it's cool it happened twice
Yes! I skipped every single headline or video with 'The Thing Remastered' waiting on you to make this video! Getting ready to watch, just had to say that haha.
You missed at least a couple of amazing videos then, some just as good if not better. No single video can ever match the more informative impact through multiple videos. You would learn some new things outside this video. Nick's channel is incredible, but objectively my point still stands.
I wish we could get another The Thing game in the style of Alien Isolation. You could make one of the most creepy and spooky horror games ever. Because this time, you don't even know who the enemy is. So it would add a whole new layer to traditional horror games.
I probably don't comment as much as I should. I only watch the comparisons on the games that interest me most. I love this game and while I recognised its flaws at the time none of them ever dulled my experience of the game. I'm literally going to play the remaster for the first time now. I love your longer history videos and tend to watch them whatever the game is. Nice work.
@9:16 the soldier cocking the gun in the classic looks much better than the remastered version. Maybe (Night Dive Studios) DEVS will continue with improvements/patching the game. It would also be cool if the DEVS considers looking into the unfinished The Thing 2 2003 sequel. I'm curious of how much of the game was developed by Computer Artworks back then before getting cancelled.
Cold fear specially I finished quite a few times. But anyway there's something quite more scary with the old PS1 era visuals like resident evil 1, Dino crisis and similar games, they are a magnitude more scary than modern visuals somehow 😎
I remember how this game came to me unexpectedly, I went to a store to take my PS2 to be repaired since it didn't read the discs, the day I go to pick it up they tell me that it is ready and works and so I take it home and When I turn it on to test, the game starts quickly and I was surprised since it wasn't mine and it happens that the person who repaired my PS2 left the disc inside and that's how I started playing The Thing, scary as hell when i was a kid to be honest but a great game.
Love the section about sound design where all they have done is added a low pass filter and maybe bumped a few higher frequencies , like what sound design ? It's more like sound scaping.
I did three playthroughs of the Thing when it was new. I remember my teammates randomly turning into monsters. Some of them would freak out if not managed correctly and freezing to death if you're not paying attention. 😆 It was awesome I might pick up the remastered version.
Had this on PS2 when i was younger. For some reason my copy would always crash at the same point on every playthrough, so i never got to finish it. The Thing is in my top 10 favourite films of all time, so I'll definitely be picking this up at some point. I'm a bit busy playing Indy right now.
Are you going to do a comparison video between Stalker 2 release and "Strider trailer" (2023) and/or E3 2021 trailer? Thanks and keep up the great work!!!
Funny, I was gonna suggest this game next in the _Legacy of Kain_ video. I'm usually anti-remasters, because they're always fucking with/up some things from the original whether that be design ruination and/or introduction of brand new issues that didn't exist previously. From what I've been seeing of this The Thing remaster, this looks like one of the best ever made... and that's probably unfortunately due to some of original developers being involved ("unfortunately" because it means they'll always be needed to get the best/cleanest version possible which obviously isn't always possible). There seems to be almost no unfavorably forced changes that makes you want to revisit the original (which can't be said about a lot of other re-releases I've played). The only kinda-one I heard about is the more increased ammo drop during that one section of the game where none existed before, which naturally makes the game easier, but my concern would only be if they added more universally throughout the game which would be far more impactful, and I haven't quite heard. There's also the blue graphic filter (more on that later) which could annoy some of us, but unlike basically every other game remaster/remake that's actually an optional feature this time around. So certain quality of life features, new effects like blood pools (even though sadly it quickly disappears) & vomit splatter, and expanded lore (incl. tying into the movies) are nice and welcomed changes that factor into my positive assessment of this remaster so far. The one and important thing the video didn't cover was the blue graphic filter situation. Usually in other re-releases we'd be forced to live with graphical adjustments like this, but they made the right choice to make it optional (I want to know who's idea that was). The purpose behind this setting is to make the game feel more inline with the movies that use the same effect, which was a great idea but an ever greater idea to make it optional (as I prefer the original atmosphere visuals in certain places - would not want to be stuck with only this ice'y-blue filter eternally, something the recent _Until Dawn remake_ did not respect). *I was really hoping to see direct comparisons between the original game and remaster with that blue filter toggled OFF (it was left toggled on in the video),* especially to also see if the visual tone had other differences from the original. Overall this is what I wanted/needed and STILL want/need from a *_Dead Space 1_* remaster and *_Spyro_* trilogy remaster (both their remakes are perplexing disappointments). I need my enhanced re-releases to be disciplined and only contain clever design changes. 98% of the time creative liberties alone go too far.
Honestly I expected a little more when the remaster was announced. I feel like it's graphics are still a bit old for the likes of modern gamers. I feel like this game needs a remake. That would really shake up the experience.
@@MoldyMojoMonkey Not really. The comparison is between the original game vs. the remaster, not between OG xbox and a high end PC running at 4k. His comparisons are usually between same-gen consoles, not say PS5 vs. PS2. So in order to really see the details and enhancements between the older version and the remaster, the best option would have been to emulate the game at the same Res as the remaster being run on PC.
WTF? Nick didn't turn off the filters? Damn... I don't know how, but _they_ got to him. This isn't the real NICK. I suspect he's he replaced by an AI... Or _The Thing._
The goal here is to show what nightdive "intended" for their remaster to look like. Turning off the colorgrading just so it matches more seems counterproductive. And personally, i prefer the new colorgrading
It looks like a bit "cheap". I mean for the added stuff. Just look at how just the first Soul reaver recently released looks in comparison. Plus Soul reaver is a ps1 game while The thing is a ps2 one... It would have been fun if they added some coop.
It literally has the environments from both movies in it, along with a story that takes place after the carpenter movie. I dont consider it canon. But it's not a bad game. Not great. But not bad
This game is exactly what a Remaster is, you are thinking of Remake. When you Remake an older game on a current gen engine, it's how you get current gen looking game. (if the devs are competent)

I think alien and aliens lol.
Collector and Collection. Dead Space and Dead Space 2 to some extent.

This channel don’t get enough attention. It’s glorious !
The game AI system still holds up really well 2 decades later.
They completely overhauled the AI on this version though. It was much worse in the original from what they said

the thing, cold fear and dino crisis deserve a proper remake
dino crisis is a mess from top to bottom, better make a new story driven survival horror game with big role of overgrown lizards
Overgrown birds*
Cold fear specially I finished quite a few times.
But anyway there's something quite more scary with the old PS1 era visuals like resident evil 1, Dino crisis and similar games, they are a magnitude more scary than modern visuals somehow 😎
You can increase the resolution in the Xbox emulator, but you can also download the Xbox Texture Pack for the PC version.
This isnt an emulator. Playing on original hardware
Tbh never played this game originally, saw it on the xbox store and decided why not, having a blast with it

The thing needs to be first person like half life
I would have never expected this game to get a full blown remake tbh. Remakes generally get reserved for more notable games and game franchises.

I never played the original but it surprisingly reminds me of Syphon Filter on PS1
Yeah, it does feel a little like that with the auto aim 3rd person strafing gameplay
How is it I never played this?? I don't even remember seeing it on sell.
What's system is for the remaster?
You could have used Xemu emulator to run the game at 1080p or higher. It's completely playable with it.
I dont compare emulators. Nothing against them, its just not a focus here
@@Nick930 I get it, but for comparison's sake, running the Xbox game at a HD resolution would have given you much better results IMO.

The new audio seems a bit over-compressed. It sounded a bit more natural in the original.
You could have tried to emulate it with xemu emulator so you could play it in 4k and do a better comparison.
Then it wouldnt be an accurate reflection of what was improved with the remaster. A majority of players are NOT emulating this stuff
Still looks like the game from 2002.... Lazy Remaster.

@Nick930 cool to think about it.. it was a lot of years ago lol loved the video great work.
