  • (11 Dec 1958) The Queen, accompanied by the Postmaster-General, Mr Ernest Marples, visited Bristol telephone exchange. First, Her Majesty had a look at old-time telephone equipment. Then, inaugurating "Grace" (Group Routing and Charging Equipment), the Queen made a trunk call by dialling an Edinburgh number. This was the first trunk dialling call made in Britain.
