This is my Logitech C920 HD Pro webcam review and test video. So I’ve had this webcam for a year and I believe it is the best HD webcam you can get because of the value and quality. It has full 1080p HD video recording with autofocus for less than $70. It has a nearly perfect 5 star rating on Amazon, and the link to the best price on Amazon will be at the top of this description so you can click that and order it for yourself whenever you’re ready. Let’s quickly go over the features and what I like about this webcam, and then I’ll show you some test footage. First off, the Logitech C920 is small and lightweight. It comes with a 6-foot long USB cable, and it is compatible with both Mac and Windows right out of the box. To record HD videos with the C920 on a Mac you can use QuickTime, and on a PC you can download the free Logitech software. Some of the main features include full HD 1080p video recording, Carl Zeiss optics with 20-step autofocus, H.264 encoding for faster and smoother HD, dual stereo microphones, and it can capture 15-megapixel photos. So having all those features on this compact webcam is awesome. It is universally tripod-ready and can be mounted to any tripod that has a standard tripod screw. It also has a fold-and-go design, so you can fold it in many different ways depending on how and where you are mounting it. It has the ability to be mounted on different size monitors or laptops and the folding arm has a rubber surface to increase grip and prevent it from falling off. The camera can be tilted back and forth to customize the angle as well. I love the HD video quality that this webcam produces so let’s switch over to the C920 so you can see what it looks like. Alright so now I am recording the video and audio through the Logitech C920 webcam. You can see that the video looks great. It’s got great detail. I’m recording in 1080p HD through QuickTime on my Mac, but you can use this with Windows as well. But the audio is a little lacking. I’m not a big fan of the built-in microphone on the C920. That’s why I do recommend using a USB microphone so you can get better quality audio. And I will leave the link to my favorite USB microphone in the description below and I’ll leave a link to my review video of that microphone at the end of this video so you can check that out. So once you pair up a good quality USB microphone with the Logitech C920 webcam you’ll have a great looking video and a great sounding video. Full 1080p HD video as long as you got a decent amount of light coming in. This is a great camera to use for recording videos or going on Skype video sessions. And here’s a quick look at how well the autofocus works and how close it can focus. So if you produce web videos or participate in Google Hangouts or make a lot of Skype video calls, I highly recommend getting the Logitech C920.

The quality of this webcam looks fab! Crystal clear!
I've recently bought this and found the sound it picks up is better with Logitech's noise reduction 'Right Sound' turned off, even if that means it picks up some fan noise off your PC. The stereo mics are actually pretty good. I reckon Andy has true sound turned on in his recording sample as have most people reviewing this webcam.

Question has anyone extended the USB cable 25 or 33 ft? If so did you have success? Do you recommend an active cable or USB hub? Also is this unit USB2.0?

I use this webcam too and I love it. The mic I use is the Samson CO3U condenser mic and you're right. The audio from the webcam isn't that great. But that goes for any webcam not just this one. Thanks for the review!

Cool. So I have the C 920. I'm trying to see what I can get out of it b4 breaking down to get an expensive camera. Have you ever done an overexposed totally white "apple style" background while using the C 920? I have bulbs and stands coming from Amazon for my projector screen ... I am hoping to be able to illuminate myself using a small ring light ...
BTW I also have the blue yeti. Sounds great they tell me.
Is the audio lag using a usb mic separate from the video camera?

Andy, how does the autofocus work at a distance? 75' or 100'?
I use this at work and have set up conferences Skype/Zoom for my whole department hundreds of times. This product works great and have recorded videos with it on RUclips. It is a large step above any built in webcams in laptops or computer monitors for both video and audio.

Andy, thank you for this video. I have Logicool C920, I think that's the Japanese brother to this. But I am not sure if mine is stereo. This Logitech is stereo, the Audio Technica USB mike you show is mono! What don't U like about C920 sound? I wanna use it to record drums & live acoustic jazz bands with my MacBook Pro.

What program do you recommend for PC recording with the video from this and audio from a USB mic? I'm having trouble finding a program that can record both without some loss in audio quality. The software that comes with it refuses to take input from VB-Audio that I use to patch through Audition for noise cleanup.

Holy crap that's expensive. I ended up figuring out a way to do it just using the webcam software and voice recorder on windows separately. I have to fix the delay between the audio and video anyway so it's not much trouble to have the audio and video as two separate files....easy enough to sync them in HitFilm using a sync clap at the beginning of my recordings.
Does the webcam need a usb microphone? Or can you use an xlr microphone

There's not really a "clip-on" USB mic. This is a small USB mic that people love: geni.us/BlueICE

Not necessary but highly recommended because the built-in webcam mic is not that great.
How do I record in 1080p? Using the Logitech software, even on 'lossless' it seems to do 720p?

Can someone please help. This webcam keeps resulting in little 'rattle' noises that occur every now and then. It's a little bit like occasionally hearing the cam getting fiddled with for 0.5 seconds. I really want it go stop and I have no idea how to.
Is it possible to record 2 video sources simultaneously - one from Mac's built-in camera and the other from the C920 so one can later edit and have 2 angles?

Hey Andy, thanks for the review! You briefly touch on using appropriate lighting for this camera. Does that mean that it does not perform that well in low light situations?
Nearly all webcams are horrible in low light situations. I always recommend having a good light source when using it. Unless you're just Skyping or something, then it doesn't really matter.

Hi Andy - looks good and I bought it, but I have Windows 10... The picture came up the first time (on Skype), but after re-boot I nevers saw it again. Driver problems the system tells me and I can't figure it out :-( So if you have any tips I would be very happy :-)

I've owned this webcam for about 6 months now and every time I view a video through the Logitech video window it is grainy and not clear. If I am going to take a picture though then its clear and nice.

Webcams aren't really built with the ability to get blurred backgrounds.

Can you make the web cam to where it shows the full screen your face then you can easily switch it back to your small face in the top corner? If so how?

Nice review! I've been reading on several forums and on sells sites like Amazon that this webcam has compatibility issues with Windows 8.1, where many of the features become unavailable. This is not unique to this model nor to Logitech. It seems that all manufacturers are dropping their webcam lines, and some may be waiting to release re-versioned products with updated drivers for the upcoming release of Windows 10.
