SuMetal nails the vocals in this. She really shows how strong her voice is especially in the newer live versions and how much her voice has grown since the original performance. Great reaction mate.

I agree that this is a pretty perfect song. The chunky Metal, the beautiful vocals, the catchy chorus, the uplifting lyrics, and a cool video as well… what more could you ask for. What fascinates me about this song in particular is how well it works both as a Metal song and as a Pop song. It can work for everyone.

I enjoy this m/v. As a non-speaking Japanese individual, I can understand that song without knowing the language. If you see this live, it just looks like they are fighting. But the m/v better shows it's about overcoming obstacles and if you get knowcked down you have to get back up and keep fighting. And that sometimes your biggest obstacle is yourself. Did you notice at the end when they showed the close-ups you could see thier refection in thier eye?

Great reaction.🦊'Karate' was the lead single for their second album, Metal Resistance, in 2016. It is about fighting adversity, when life knocks you down and everything seems too hard so you're hurt and crying, its about standing up and fighting on, helping each other through the hard times. They used karate to illustrate this as it is a Japanese martial art and reflects their culture - it is also about keeping on moving forward.
In the video the figures in white were the girls all along and they were conjuring up their own inner demons to fight against. They beat the first, the second knocked them down but they got up to eventually defeat themselves (did you notice the reflections of each of the girls in their own eyes when the masks shattered and it was revealed as them? Not many people spot that).
They did watch a lot of martial arts movies to get ideas for the choreo as they wanted it to look as authentic as possible. Moa catching the fly was a nod to Mr Miyagi in The Karate Kid. Mr Miyagi may have used chop sticks (and it may have taken him two or three films before he caught one), Moa caught her fly with her eyes closed - first time.
This song and video won 2 awards. "Best Metal Video in MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2016" and "Best Metal Song in 6th Annual Loudwire Music Awards".

Welcome back to the Foxhole Thanks for following this journey with this suggestion.
"Karate" is one of their stronger weapons along with "Road Of Resistance" from 2nd album "Metal Resistance" released in 2016. It's an uplifting song about keep fighting besides the obstacles, and if you take a closer look at the end you'll see in the eyes of their rivals that they're fighting against no other than themselves.
Some fans also find anime vibes on BabyMetal songs, the only other song I could find with anime vibes besides this one and "Divine Attack - Shingeki", is "Syncopation" another banger.
They watched several footage before making this song, one of those were "Karate Kid" old movie, that's why you see MoaMetal catching a bug, that's a reference to the movie, after this she become the bug catcher expert when traveling on live tour lol. The bats and the concrete blocks testing strength is another infamous Karate reference.
Btw just in case, the band playing behind in this MV are hired actors, they got their own set of musicians when performing live called Kami Band, they're not always the same musicians but currently this year they've been playing with a westerners band unlike early era after 2012 when they had a Japanese band.
You can enjoy the live version with the blaster sound of the Kami Band watching Download Festival 2016 among many others but this one is safe to react.
    Next suggestion:
    - Rondo Of Nightmare with Mischief Of Metal Gods Intro live at Budokan 2014.
    See you next time 🦊🤘🔥

    Good reaction, thanks!
Yes, as you perfectly mentioned, "Karate" was incredibly arranged by Takehiro Mamiya best known as Yuyoyuppe (or Yuppemetal). He's well known for composing for vocaloids.
The song is basically on their poppier side (even structurally) but that main riff comes out from nowhere and hits you like a bus. 😁
This is an award winning music video and it's considered one of their best (if not the best). The song is about endurance and resilience so, they are fighting here their inner demons, as you can see in the reflection of their eyes near the end. Good little details.
    Until next time! 🤘🦊

What I love about them is the messages they convey in their songs such as anti bullying and in this case fighting against yourself in terms of trying to overcome any feelings of self doubt, confidence and esteem you might have - and that you CAN overcome them. I've heard this live 3 or 4 times and boy was I buzzing from start to finish! Hope you and yours are keeping well Dan. Take care. David😊

So glad for you that you discovered Babymetal. This is one of my favorite songs from the Yui Era of Babymetal. I always get choked up from this song. The message is beautiful and always gets me. To fight through even when you've been knocked down and find it hard to get back up. If you ever get the chance to see and/or react to the live Karate, PIA arena version, that's a great one. To me it seems like BabyMetal is saying goodbye to the Yui Era. There is another group singing along with Babymetal. That group being, Metalverse which I believe is representing old BabyMetal in that stage performance. On the screen behind them are clips of the different Babymetal Eras. You can see Yui in the earlier clips and their progression to the now. They've had hardships and tradgedies and they fought through, like fighting to be accepted in the Metal world, the loss of Yui, the death of their legendary guitarist Mikio. Their positivity and spirit gives their fans the feeling of hope and belonging. They're just a beautiful and amazing group.

I had come across Babymetal from my RUclips feed about 6 months prior to the release of the Karate MV. And I had become a solid fan watching all of their official videos . But then this MV happened and that made me ask that fateful question: "How did this happen?" So now I know about Karen Girl's, ASH, Sakura Gakuin, NGZ46, Hooligans, Adventurers, JAM Project, Perfume; even Hello! Project and Morning Musume. In 6 decades I had never really cared about a band's backstory. But the Babymetal Foxhole is wide, deep and fascinating.

Nice! This is a wonderful song about fighting to overcome obstacles and moving forward. In this MV, specifically one's inner demons (3 gals under the mask of the 3 ghosts). Also, a fun fact: WWE used this song as a theme song for 2016's NXT TakeOver: The End.
I know you have tons of stuff to react to, so take your time and enjoy the Babymetal journey! But, I would suggest bumping *Road of Resistance (Official Live)* to the top of the Babymetal queue!

    It Karate (Babymetal song):-
"Karate" is a song by the Japanese 🇯🇵 heavy metal band Babymetal from their second studio album, Metal Resistance. "Karate" also features djent-like riffs and a J-pop melody. Loudwire's Graham Hartmann described the song as "incredibly charming. Instrumentally, it’s also heavy as hell. The song’s main riff is way low on the sonic spectrum, chugging away in a no-nonsense djent fashion." “Karate” took home the trophy for Best Metal Song @ the 2016 Annual Loudwire Music Awards. Karate explained that the lyrics are about never giving up and always moving forward, no matter what difficulties need to be endured. Furthermore, Karate choreographed described how the dance moves were made to help express the message of the song, as most of the lyrics were in Japanese 🇯🇵.
    "Karate"
    •Single by: Babymetal.
    •Album: Metal Resistance.
    •Language: Japanese.
    •Released: February 26, 2016.
    •Genre: J-pop, nu metal, metalcore.
    •Length: 4:23.
    •Label: RAL, Sony Music.
    •Songwriter: Yuyoyuppe.
    •Producer: Kobametal.
    •Arrangement: Yuyoyuppe.
    Babymetal singles chronology:-
    •"Gimme Chocolate!!" (2015).
    •"Karate"(2016).
    •"Distortion" (2018).
    Background and release:-
According to Suzuka Nakamoto, "Karate" is reminiscent of the song "4", which "is popular among international fans. [The song] has not only Babymetal vibes, but also has Japanese elements. Its lyrics portray a strong will to go on, no matter what happens in your life." The song is a nu metal song that contains elements of metalcore. Composed by Yuyoyuppe and arranged under the name Yuppemetal, "Karate" also features djent-like riffs, and a J-pop melody. Loudwire's Graham Hartmann described the song as "incredibly charming. Instrumentally, it’s also heavy as hell. The song’s main riff is way low on the sonic spectrum, chugging away in a no-nonsense djent fashion."
Kikuchi explained that the lyrics are about never giving up and always moving forward, no matter what difficulties need to be endured. Furthermore, Yui Mizuno described how the dance moves were made to help express the message of the song, as most of the lyrics were in Japanese.
    Reception:-
"Karate" received generally positive reviews from music critics. Lars Gotrich of NPR Music described the song as "catchy and grandiose" praising Nakamoto's vocal performance, comparing her to Evanescence lead vocalist Amy Lee. Jon Hadusek from Consequence of Sound called the song, as well as "From Dusk Till Dawn" essential tracks from the album. While reviewing Metal Resistance, Jordan Bassett of NME praised the song, describing it as "fast and furious until jangling, arpeggiated guitar alters the rhythm." Hartmann praised the song's chorus, calling it "one of the catchiest pieces [Babymetal] has crafted to date."
"Karate" peaked at number two on the Billboard World Digital Songs chart on the issue dated March 19, 2016, spending fourteen weeks on the chart. The song debuted at number 24 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100, for the week of March 12, 2016. After the release of the band's second album Metal Resistance, in the week of May 7, 2016, the song peaked at number 17, spending a total of twelve weeks on the chart.
    Live performances:-
"Karate" premiered at Yokohama Arena on December 12, 2015, during the final dates of the Babymetal World Tour 2015, and was added to the setlist of the Babymetal World Tour 2016, performed on the first tour date at Wembley Arena. The song had its first televised performance at TV Asahi's Music Station on April 22, 2016. The song's choreography contained interpolations of karate moves, as shown in the music video.
BABYMETAL WIN FIVE HONORS IN THE 6TH ANNUAL LOUDWIRE MUSIC AWARDS:-
Japanese pop-metal sensation Babymetal are one of the 6th Annual Loudwire Music Awards’ biggest winners, as their fans voted them to victory in five separate categories.
The teen trio and their phenomenal backing musicians have rocketed to the top of the metal world, and in many ways, the worlMd of music. Babymetal’s rabid fanbase filled the Tokyo Dome two nights in a row, so it’s no surprise the band won the Most Devoted Fans award for the second year in a row, this time edging out fellow Japanese act X Japan.
Babymetal’s Metal Resistance album proved the group wouldn’t go out as a one hit wonder. It kicks in hard with “Road of Resistance” and keeps moving with anthemic cuts that are criminally catchy. Metal Resistance won Best Metal Album in our latest awards, while “Karate” took home the trophy for Best Metal Song.
2016 was Babymetal’s year for touring, playing Wembley early in the year, appearing on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, taking over North America, playing the Tokyo Dome and finally supporting Red Hot Chili Peppers in the UK. For Babymetal’s accomplishments, they’ve been voted Best Live Act. Finally, frontwoman Su-metal claimed victory in our Rock Goddess of the Year category, beating out beloved singers like Amy Lee and Cristina Scabbia.

SUMETAL , the voice of an Angel , with the chugging metal sound behind her. It just works so well. If you think this is the perfect song, you’re not wrong by the way, but you will find better to come. Don’t forget BABYMETAL DEATH, legend 1997 still waits in the background. A shockingly ( for sone) version of the intro you saw a little while ago. In this case , it is an outro, . couple things you need to go back and watch for. first look at when Su throws down the chop destroying the block but stop it right at the shot of her hand that is the fox sign before hitting the ground. second is at the end where it slows down the demons eyes show which girl it is. the reflection is in the eyes. most people will say Babymetal is like the gateway band to Japanese bands.

Like a lot of BABYMETAL songs, this one has a positive message about facing challenges, both internal and external.
For this one, Su, Yui and Moa watched a lot of martial arts movies and worked with their choreographer MIKIKO to incorporate those kinds of moves into the dance routine.
Did you spot the reference to 'Karate Kid' (or even earlier martial arts movies) when Moa caught the fly?
Of course she lets it go unharmed. Her catch phrase, based on her given name Moa (最愛), was "Treasure love the most".
