There hasn't been a coach in football history get as many fluky plays to go his way quite like Gus Malzahn. That dropped pass turned INT by KSU's stud receiver was sheer luck.
In 2013, if either the deflection for a TD on 4th down against Georgia doesn't happen or Alabama makes the field goal at the end of the Iron Bowl, Auburn doesn't win the SEC championship and probably goes on to lose to Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl and finish 10-3. Then Malzahn proceeds to go 8-5 the next year and 7-6 the next, which probably leads to him being fired after the 2015 season instead of making it all the way through the 2020 season. Crazy how impactful just a few lucky plays were on his coaching career.
@@JaiLeafe225 I agree, also crazy to think Auburn lost in final seconds to a Florida State team with about 12-15 players getting drafted the following year. Only reason we were ranked that high in 2014 is because we went to the Natty and returned Nic Marshall. Also, K State should retire their kickers number from this game lmao
Snyder couldn't beat top-10 teams. This game was a weird mess - dropped passes by both sides, the K-State kicker had a great career and couldn't hit water falling out of a boat this game. Just baffling.
I've never seen this game until now but wow Auburn looked awful for being a team that entered the season ranked in the top 5. They won this game out of pure luck. It's no wonder they fell apart and finished 8-5.
That was Gus’s Auburn for you, sometimes they would look like the best team in the country. Other times they looked like they didn’t even belong in D1.
Still took the L tho. Honestly your comment is really stupid. Kstate’s QB threw 2 picks. The kicker couldn’t hit anything. In what way did auburn get outplayed?
So what about all the defense stops by Auburn to set up the missed FGs? Not Auburn’s fault they had a terrible kicker, should’ve scored more touchdowns instead.

This game changed Gus’s career path. KState exposed the weaknesses of the Gus scheme to all of college football. And this team had Nick.

Is it luck that Ksu’s kicker was awful? He missed almost as much as Russell Westbrook.

K state was a pretty good team that year.
