@@alejandromunoz2853 skip the wifebeater. that could end up choking you if you went in a power slide. i wear a metal chain .. no shirt. so if i go down i slide on the chain.
Ryan, you are awesome! Your presenting style is affable, honest, well spoken, and you swear just enough that we can tell you have a personality, bravo sir. That and the fact that you give genuine opinions, for both good gear and bad. Your reviews are some of the best on the internet.
I started with a pair of Scorpion Covert Pros and after a season with those, moved on to Knox Richmond jeans. Much more slide protection throughout and they come with armor. Best part is, the knee armor can come out without taking them off and they look like regular jeans, so they're perfect for commutes to the office.
Don't take this the wrong way but when I first saw your early videos, I really wanted to dislike you. "Young punk kid trying to make out like he knows what he's talking about", I thought (likely because so very many video presenters on youtube easily meet that description!) However, the more I watched your videos, the more I liked them! I'm a longtime broadcaster, and you have a very easy delivery style, you research your info well, and, crucially, are very honest in your reviews despite the fact you are also a retailer! In addition, you always seem to answer the pertinent questions I have about any given piece of gear (small example, whether the fitment of any given pant runs large or small!) In short, good job in making me eat my original words and keep up the fine work!
Had a unintentional high speed dismount a few weeks ago. BMW R1100RT vs Kia. (I still feel that I won) I had just watched this video and had debated on what jean I wanted. After the accident I decided to forgo the financial debate in my head and chose the KILM K 50 2 Pants. Had I made the purchase when I first saw this my knees would have been spared. Great looking pants and very comfortable. Fit as advertised as well. Thank you Ryan as you have a following here in the States as well.
Good to know I grabbed the most comfortable jean my first time shopping for gear. The Scorpion Covert really is nice, and if I ever felt like adding armor, I can.
I've got a pair of the Furygan D01 aramid jeans, and they're honestly the best jeans I've owned; I wear mine a little baggy anyway so they're completely indistinguishable from regular jeans despite the full aramid denim construction with DuPont Kevlar lining and D30 knee armour. Especially good for the taller rider, I'm 6'4 and they don't ride up my shins when on the bike.
your review is so spot on the scorpion. I have those now just new a month ago. great pant. suits me. great value. thank you. I wear 32 to 34" in Levis and like at least 34" inseam. 32" inseam is too short. the 36" in the scorpion fit well. the length is just adequate and is why I purchased 36" as I didn't like the 32" and 34" for length. now the 3" is still now too loose after riding in these as many rides as about 15.
I bought all my starting gear referencing your videos and off of FortNine to support you and an excellent Canadian brand. You give honest, true and clear reviews of stuff and layout every benefit and shortcoming of the gear. It helped me pinpoint what I wanted out my gear.
Once I found out you're 6'3" I started watching all of your gear videos. You don't seem that height on video but it's very nice having an idea of how I would look wearing the gear you display.
I don’t know how but I completely trust every word you say , just how you say it zero bs and to the point with some laughter along the way haha , hey from Aus
Hope to see a review for women pants! :) I liked those but I already have knee protectors, so having double knee protectors is kinda uncomfortable.....
The most protection you're going to get in a riding jean, is not what you see at 60secs. Just to give you an example Revit does the Rockefeller (disclaimer: I have these jeans) which is fully lined with PWR (proprietary mix of kevlar+cordura), plus the outer layer is made of denim mixed with cordura, and it has armor at the knees and hips. Rokker also does fully lined jeans and I'm sure there are other brands that do too.
Just got your interest mate from a Aussie supporter: The industry leader in motorcycle fashion, Draggin Jeans Australia, was established in 1997 by Melbourne’s Grant Mackintosh with the goal of revolutionising motorcycle clothing. Draggin engineered the first protective motorcycle jeans - The Draggin Kevlar Jeans, which uses Kevlar, a special reinforcing agent of immense strength,
Knox jeans are completely lined not just at the side and rear. They are also very comfortable and come with their Micro-lock armour at the knee and hip. Definitely worth looking at.
Im 6'2" and im buy 34 waist, but about half of my 34 jean are a bit lose at the waist, but 32 is too tight and I almost never see 33s and the few times I did they were tight. Im slim. Always been skinny, especially in the legs.
FWIW I'm returning my Coverts because even with the knee armor adjusted all the way up and kneeling deeply, the top of the knee armor is over an inch below the bottom of my kneecap. It wouldn't do anything in a crash.
You should try out these jeans called 'Uglybros' I think. Expensive as hell, never seen a single review for them - I'd angle they are closer to 'style' then 'protection'. Hard to say though.
Just wanted to add that Road Skin jeans are really great. Not super expensive, fully lined with Kevlar and come with knee and hip armour. They run big though, so be forewarned. I'll usually wear a 30/34 or a 28/34 in men's jeans depending on how low they are worn, and these need a belt very very badly as well as being some of the baggiest jeans I've ever owned. Well worth it for the full lining though. The women's motorcycle jeans are made with fashion denim or denim with spandex type fabric and not nearly enough coverage in Kevlar :/
Ryan i think you give the best & honest reviews. After watching one of your videos, i bought a helmet, and experienced the same things you mentioned. Keep up the good work and keep it coming boss!
You should definitely check out Hood Jeans in the Uk, heavy jeans, any waist, any leg length, full length double layer aramid, mesh liner, almost unoticeble hip and knee armour. Came out just prior to dragging jeans so been about for some time.
Love the content. It'll also be great to see how these jeans stand-up against engine/exhaust/frame heat coming off of most 1000 cc sports bikes. I ride a 1000 cc sports bike and in the summer months the heat radiating off the frame is just unbearable especially in the like of Panigales and R1-s. As a result most bikers like myself have resorted to riding in leather suits or pants even for short city commutes. It will be nice to see if there are decent jeans that are able to offer a degree of heat resistance for such bikes. So far the Rev-It Gear 2 pants are the only leather pants that I can think of that do the job pretty good but they don't really blend-in when it comes to off-the-bike activities.
I would also check out the Segura bower. Its fully lined with Kevlar has hip and knee protectors. Not the backbone protector. Bud check it out. Price is also good.
I just compared the Scorpion Coverts and Covert Pros in the store, and there is an important difference, and it drives me nuts: the pocket for the armor is different. The base version sits several inches lower, and when I crammed my armor all the way to the top of the pocket, it only barely touched the top of my kneecap in a riding position. (I'm about 5'11, so not particularly short.) Also they have 6 velcro tabs along the center that you use to position the knee pad. I think you are supposed to close them to keep the knee pad at the position you want (the only way to keep the pad at the very top of the pocket is position it so that it sits on top of the closed velcro square), but since they are in the center, the tapered bottom will immediately slide off-center and fall down. The Pro pockets sit several inches higher up the leg, and have the soft side of velcro on the inside. I assume you are expected to stick velcro onto your pads, or leave them inside the little pockets that mine come (they came with my First Gear overpants). It's annoying as hell that they stuck an objectively inferior system on the cheaper pants when it doesn't seem like there would be much difference in materials used...
No Maxler Jeans? I've tried out serval brands and so far they've been above and beyond the other brands, like icon, Scorpion Co-Vert, and Speed and Strength are the others I've tried. I'm gonna give Trilobite Parado jeans and Saints unbreakable denim a try next.
very nice video as always guys! but... NO REV'IT? Its like a "best smartphone of 2017" test without the Apple iPhone... What was your reason not to test Rev'it jeans? They are imho by far the most stylish and technical jeans out there.
Love these reviews. Just picked up a pair of the Klim's mostly because this review pointed me in the right direction. Cant wait til spring hopefully will get some more trip vlogs.
You are mistaken with the Covert, the old one has 160 GSM Kevlar, while the new one has 250 along with the infused Cordura, that makes a lot of difference, as I've read on an Australian road safety web page that you need a minimum of *300* GSM for speeds of 60 kph and *400* if you're going faster!
Probably going to buy the Klim jeans based on this review. They look like normal jeans, have good protection, and hopefully are all-day wearable. I can't stand some of the goofy looking stuff out there. Great video as always
Seems like it would be a good idea just to buy a couple pairs of the scorpion covert and put the armor in which ever pair I want to wear that day. Wish I could see what it looks like wearing it with the armor in the pockets. Thanks for vid
Funny you should mention it - I'm wearing a pair of Covert Pros with the armour installed during this video: ruclips.net/video/TCE66j0hjyo/видео.html ~RyanF9
you should try out the Draggin jeans they offer the most protection of all the kevlar jeans I have seen, but it does come with a bigger cost. Around 250- 350 euro if i'm correct. I wonder what you will think of them. Great reviews keep it up!
Hi Ryan. Have you looked at Resurgence Jeans. They are the best out there. They developed a lining product called PEKEV which when tested lasted a world record 10.5 secs abrasion test.
I have a serious question, and critique of this style of gear (if I may). I would sincerely love to get your opinion on it please. I've tried a couple of riding jeans but they all seem to be Not tight enough at the knees where I expect they should be. Even if you are sitting down, if you grab onto either knee pad and move them from side to side, they WILL move away from the knee cap. What is the point of wearing Any of these jeans if during a crash or when i'm in the air after one: the knee pads have slid to either side of the knee cap where they are supposed to be (in my limited knowledge opinion)? Shouldn't all of these pants have some way of locking the kneepads into position in Front of the kneecap? Thank you for your very insightful videos, they have been of great help to me as a biker. I especially like your A to G alphabetical list of things to check before I get onto my motorcycle ever. Thank you. Johny
I'd have to try them first. I need motorcycle jeans that work with my CCW hardware and also that I can feel comfy at the gym on the way to my daily commute.
I have the scorpion covert jeans. The armor in the knees sits a bit low. I tried to get them altered but they would have to disassemble the pants. I may have to wear them without knee protection. I tried the elbow knee protection with the Velcro added to them. Didn’t stay in place well enough. Besides I’m not going to trust Velcro to hold armor in place in that kind of situation. Bummer.
Your reviews have helped me so much with choosing my gear and just learning about riding in general. one question though - what boots are you wearing during this? I found with blue jeans, black bike boots look like formal shoes as the leather is gloss. :/.
I'm wearing my Icon Patrols in this video. Great boots, but I think they've been discontinued since I bought them. Also they're *super* dirty from my last ride, which is why they aren't so glossy haha. ~RyanF9
Would love to see an informative review like this for ladies riding jeans. I can't tell you how hard it is to find a pair that has good protection and doesn't show show crack when I lean over.
You should check out Ugly Bros riding jeans. They're kind of spendy but absolutely amazing. I have 2 pairs and wear them casually when I'm not riding too.
JetCityHooligan I saw a store in Toronto selling them, they look awesome but they were $500! Mostly because of the dollar conversion. If they're that good though, I might invest in a pair! Thanks.
Holy shit... I never would have guessed you are 6'3" in your videos you look like such a little guy...lmao! What size jeans do you wear... I am 6'6" and I wear 38x34. But I wish I could find some that are longer.
It would be nice if more companies offered shorter inseams for us vertically challenged riders. I have a couple pairs, one that's just right and a pair of Icons that I had to hack 3 inches off of so I wouldn't trip or get them caught in my chain.
I'm new to riding with a pretty small budget. I'm getting a bike for commuting and some touring. Never planning on stunting and rarely going over 80 mph. How important are riding pants for someone like me compared to heavy duty jeans?
Timplar if you ever go faster than about 10 - 15 mph, jeans will do next to nothing to protect you. Helmet, jacket, gloves, and pants are must haves. Notice I left off boots. That’s because a decent pair of “regular” work boot that covers your ankle should offer enough protection.
My gripe about the Scorpions is that the velcro that holds the knee inserts in is on the bottom of the pocket, so the inserts fall out from time to time. Fortunately not while riding, yet.
I love your videos mainly because your humor and the extensive facts. With that said could you Please offer a budget option with your product reviews. The major brands are all mentioned here but most riders would consider a lower priced budget option even for giggles. Huxaly Bros offer a decent pair with Dupont Kevlar & pads for $65_USD. Not knocking your awesome reviews just hoping for a cheaper option when on a shoestring budget. 👍
Can you guys review the new mo cycle air bag suit. I broke my femur. I understand the danger of another accident. I would still like to protect my femur as much as possible..I broke my femur the day I bought my motorcycle.
I was wearing some American Eagle jeans (size 34x34- I'm 6'6" in case you were wondering) for my first motorcycle accident. I no longer have any feeling in half of my knee. Looking for some knee pads now, not trying to buy full pants. Any good recommendations?
I was surprised to not see my choice Maxler Jeans I seriously own 4 pairs of them I own scorpion coverts, not so great, and speed and strength rage with the machine, also not so great. I'm gonna be getting a pair of Trilobite Parado jeans and Saints unbreakable denim which I also was surprised to not see on his list..
I was expecting e-squad to feature in this, maybe thus isn't available over there ? It doesn't have a sperate aramid pants or area's on the inside. Instead the the denim fiber is woven around the aramid (kevlar) and so the whole pans is you skidding protection. I think the inventor was french. As marketing stunt they suspended a hunmer from the pants.
Not at all. I grew up riding motocross, so having a motorcycle that can go off-road has always been a priority for me. I love riding street bikes too though, and most of them don't feel too cramped. ~RyanF9
Thanks Ryan, been devouring your vids. Would love to hear your thoughts on the Rokker jeans. Been wearing them over a year and I often wear them even when I'm not riding. full length kevlar with double layered kevlar on the knees and shins. Pretty sweet

I'd have to try them first. I need motorcycle jeans that work with my CCW hardware and also that I can feel comfy at the gym on the way to my daily commute.
@FortNine it is 2020 and things have changed... Any chance we can get your suggestion for a 2019-2020 pant?
I've been waiting for a riding jeans review from a guy my height forever! And local MTL'r too! Great job Ryan.
Hope to see you on OTR soon brother.
Bummer.
PROmo Jeans is CE level 2!! 😎💪💪💪
I'm looking into get a motorcycle and your videos a really helpful keep up the good work !!!
We need an updated version for 2022!
You forgot about Draggin Jeans. Hands down best riding jean for the money
~RyanF9
Thanks for sharing...your vids are very helpful to me.
Would love to see an informative review like this for ladies riding jeans. I can't tell you how hard it is to find a pair that has good protection and doesn't show show crack when I lean over.
haha :D
You should check out Ugly Bros riding jeans. They're kind of spendy but absolutely amazing. I have 2 pairs and wear them casually when I'm not riding too.
JetCityHooligan I saw a store in Toronto selling them, they look awesome but they were $500! Mostly because of the dollar conversion. If they're that good though, I might invest in a pair! Thanks.
Great stuff, but you might find a short, wide friend and redo these with a new model. For those of us who are more Harley in figure.
I bought the Klim jeans on amazon about a month ago. they are fantastic! and only 289.99 on amazon (:
We're up in Canada, so after the exchange rate they are roughly the same price :-)
Holy shit... I never would have guessed you are 6'3" in your videos you look like such a little guy...lmao! What size jeans do you wear... I am 6'6" and I wear 38x34. But I wish I could find some that are longer.
I wear 33x34... I'm pretty scrawny but still tall! ~RyanF9
Hey ryan! Check the KNOX jeans. For the price they are one of the best motorcycle jeans out there.
My gripe about the Scorpions is that the velcro that holds the knee inserts in is on the bottom of the pocket, so the inserts fall out from time to time. Fortunately not while riding, yet.
Don't care about the pants, but am curious as to how you got that BMW on its center stand in the corner of two walls...
Clearly in front of a green screen. 😋
thats a suzuki
thats a vstrom 1ooo not bmw
I love your videos mainly because your humor and the extensive facts. With that said could you Please offer a budget option with your product reviews. The major brands are all mentioned here but most riders would consider a lower priced budget option even for giggles. Huxaly Bros offer a decent pair with Dupont Kevlar & pads for $65_USD. Not knocking your awesome reviews just hoping for a cheaper option when on a shoestring budget. 👍
Sorry I should have looked closer at your title. You show BEST, and I am talking best for $. Lol love ur channel!!
Can you guys review the new mo cycle air bag suit. I broke my femur. I understand the danger of another accident. I would still like to protect my femur as much as possible..I broke my femur the day I bought my motorcycle.
Anybody know which boots Ryan is wearing in this video? They good like good protection without being TOO bulky. Fit well with most of these jeans.
I was wearing some American Eagle jeans (size 34x34- I'm 6'6" in case you were wondering) for my first motorcycle accident. I no longer have any feeling in half of my knee. Looking for some knee pads now, not trying to buy full pants. Any good recommendations?
the 5th pocket was for pocket watches back in the day. My young cousin calls it the USB drive pocket.
Steve Martin Are you referring to the condom pocket?
No Draggin Jeans? I thought that was the name brand that started the denim riding pants segment.
Ryan, need you to be honest with me (another young tall rider):
Did you end up riding an adventure/touring motorcycle because of your height?
Not at all. I grew up riding motocross, so having a motorcycle that can go off-road has always been a priority for me. I love riding street bikes too though, and most of them don't feel too cramped. ~RyanF9
This dude is the man
I'm curious on the Rev'It's as well because their gloves are superb.
the change pocket is long because it supposed to be a cell phone pocket and deep enough so nothing gets pushed out when seated
In the UK Hood Jeans are fantastic
Thanks Ryan, been devouring your vids. Would love to hear your thoughts on the Rokker jeans. Been wearing them over a year and I often wear them even when I'm not riding. full length kevlar with double layered kevlar on the knees and shins. Pretty sweet
For protective jeans I don't want to see the panels from the out side you don't need to compromise safety for style
For a new rider, what pads or armor would you recomend for the scorpion jeans?.... awesome videos, very helpful
i just found out your videos very recently, but i got magnetized already..i really enjoy watching ur reviews especially on gearings and accesorries, well i cannot afford any of those in real life but thru your videos i feel like i have one.. lol.. im wondering how old are you mr. ryan and what does fortnine means.. ?
Klim being the best protection you can get - you apparently have never heard of Rocker Jeans... And they look way WAY better than everything you show here.
I am new to motorcycles and stumbled upon your videos which are great. Perhaps you would be able to review some gears that suitable for extreme heat riding. I live in Indonesia, so we have only daily 34-35 centigrades or heavy rain.
No Hood jeans? My absolute favourite!
Try Duluth Trading Fire Hose jeans. Tremendous abrasion resistance
Armour?
