It's a great part about this site, nobody would have known about this music if people didn't post stuff like this onto RUclips . You could always find a hidden gem thanks to these people.
YT and internet is the closest thing to a time machine that we have
We had a playlist prepared in a party at my house and after all our songs finished, this started playing and it was so good we left it playing

This is the reason Japanese '80s pop was so rich in sound. It's borrowed heavily from Foundational Afro-Centric American music just sung in Japanese.
African American and Japanese people share a rich history of nearly two hundred years of transnational engagement and activity. African American writers discussed Japan as early as 1828, and, in the African American and abolitionist press, the 1860 Japanese Embassy to the United States inspired a perception of transnational solidarity between African American and Japanese people based on the shared experience of racial prejudice and the right of all men to participate in the affairs of the world. From the 16th century to the early 19th century, Japanese ideas surrounding Blackness were very different from the racial ideologies prevalent in Europe and later the United States.
Throughout the 1920s and 1930s, many Japanese intellectuals were inspired by the African American struggle for civil rights, as well as their transnational engagement with African American people, to promote anti-imperialism within Japan. Meanwhile, in the 1930s, pro-Japanese organizations proliferated across the United States and influenced tens of thousands of African American people. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor ended much, but not all, African American sympathy for Japan. The FBI was concerned that Japanese military agents would racially agitate African American people into subversive activity.

for some reason I feel nostalgic about the 80s in japan while I was born in Jordan in 2001
this playlist feels like a breath of fresh air! i was feeling a bit down on my morning commute to uni, but this cheered me up and made my day 😭💗 the song choices are so unique and upbeat, i hope to see more playlists from you!
Love to hear that! Will do my best to provide 🫡
Oh, yeah! Breath and love in heart)))
Japanese 80s and 90s had to be a great decade. Huge hug from a Colombian in the UK.
Listening to this kind of music here in Japan this rainy Saturday is such a bliss.
try to listen it at sunny sunday ^^
@@deeprichastie1580 good advice. I’ll do that one of these days.
Enjoy hope it lasts and thanks for sharing that magic time with us.
So lucky!!
wild im listening to this on a rainy sunday rn
This music is so soothing to me. I'm a child of the 70s who grew up in the 80s/90s, and despite the different language, it still reminds me of my childhood. ❤
Now, i am in the middle of my ICU medical watch, last 2 month ı work oncology policlinic, and ı felt tired and exhausted but tonight I found this video and remember what ı have a good memories, childhood feelings etc. Playlist is very good and anime scenes are completed each other. I feel calm, peaceful and my heart is smile me, after long winter months. Thank you to everyone who made me feel these feelings.
These basslines are funky as hell. No school like the old school.

The Airport Lady's bass. Oh my God
This playlist is sick. I don't have an appreciation for music from older eras, but damn Japanese 80's City Pop. Who'd have thought... not me.
I'm loving listen to Japanese 80's city pop. Time may pass, but for good music, it´s eternal.
Thank you for creating this playlist! My heart feels lighter while I listen.
Dude, people aren't talking enough about these images, they are such a vibe!
Im actually laughing at them a bit since they are AI Art
Wish i had found this sooner🥰
This whole playlist took me to another universe. I love city pop.
Something is always magical about citypop and im happy i got into the genre 😄
I agree with you, it's something really magical.
Better now than never, enjoy such great discovery!
The great thing with not being able to understand Nihongo is that I can listen to the 80s vibe WITH vocals, but not get distracted from my work by the lyrics. When I listen to English songs, I sometimes end up singing instead of working. lol
Recognized all the songs on this playlist and let me tell you, they all belong here. Each time a new one started I was like "YES! Just the one!" Kudos!!!
This playlist is stimulating enough for me to actually want to go to class and finish all my assignments in a good mood! thank you for sharing. Good luck to all the uni students out there

This just randomly came on autoplay, no idea what this is but I've been vibing for the last 30 mins and have no intention of stopping.
this playlist is nostalgic it reminds me back the days where my aunt is still alive playing music like this on her speaker.
Ah man sorry.

Thanks Coco.
I've seen pictures of Anri on Japanese magazines in the '80s, but didn't know she had so many hit songs. (now I know)
Very nice playlist, makes me feel no stress exists while listening to it :-)
I'm Japanese. When you listen to City Pop, you can see the scenery of driving on the road where you can see Tokyo Tower.
I was doing a school project and started music on RUclips. RUclips auto started this... new favourite genres. It really helped me studying, staying relaxed and focused. Love it!
Best of luck on your project!
this is a mood relief after a rough day..
This is a wonderful selection of classic and boppers to listen to! Really great mood you've curated here, thanks :)
Thanks! Was hoping to achieve that :)
Mariya Takeuchi slaying with another banger! Love it, just as iconic as Plastic love!
Afro-American pop, rock, jazz, and R&B with a touch of disco sung in Japanese in the 1980s. Nice. I recognize some of the songs being sung although they are sung in a different language. Some songs are actually from the 1970s. So many sacrifices and much suffering was endured to share their music so it's a blessing to know many around the world enjoyed it so much as well.
“With a touch” this is pure Japanese 😂😂😂😂 the influence is small and mostly American what you’re talking about and no r&b here what the hell? No one is listening to this thinking “AFRICAN-American pop” . Get educated.
Jazz is also huge in japan
@@simplyphenomenal695 You are the foolish one who desires to remain the fool. Just because you wish it were so does not make it true. Portions of Afro-Centric American songs were included here. Ask Robin Thicke how it's done from generation to generation. It took a judge to drag out his truth unfortunately many old school artist did not have the funds to fight their cases like Marvin Gaye's family. Do not attempt to argue a point on a topic that is foreign to you. Go Get Educated,. By the way, the Japanese also used to style their hair to resemble Afros..
@@simplyphenomenal695 Nothing about this music is Japanese. It's literally Black American Funk, Jazz, Disco, RNB etc sung in the Japanese language. This isn't a music genre, just a Japanese imitation. To claim that this is a new genre that Japanese people invented is delusional. Every song in this video is a clear imitation.
@@hayria123 nah I hear something better. Keep crying. 😂
All great 80s songs And RIP to the great Miki Matsubara 🎉

Remember Summer Days goes so hard
It's natural to feel disheartened when faced with setbacks or failures. However, it's important to remember that these moments do not define your worth or determine your future. Instead, they provide valuable lessons and opportunities for growth. Take a moment to reflect on what you've learned from past challenges and how they've helped you become stronger and more resilient. Use this knowledge to fuel your determination and drive as you continue on your journey. You have the power to turn setbacks into stepping stones towards success.
I can listen to this All daaaaaaayyyyy!!!! seriously! i have to say, this just sounds so good to my ears at 37. I'm more old school and I enjoy this kind of music! :) TY for the upload

I love city pop. I am hands down saying that remember summer days by Anri is the best. Anri is a great singer
woah this is pretty good, it's got a good mix of the classics and some other artists. I feel like a lot of other city pop playlists kind of play the same songs over and over. nice job!

i had this playlist playing in the back during my drive last summer when i was heading up to visit my friends in the poconos. had my windows down and the weather was great - it was such a good vibe. that was such a good day - it’s currently TOO cold and listening to this right now has me longing for warm weather and good vibes
Desde Argentina escuchando las obra de arte. muy tranquila y hermosa Musica
😍may i first say this is the chefs kiss of music. No debate, no alternative. This gives rainy days a sunny feel, sets a smile on your face, and puts a hop in your step. I have to stop and dance at times through this and i can't even help myself. Thank you vagabomd, and thank you Japan for your boundless talent that you share with the world!

it reminds me of my golden years in the 80's, wonderful adolescence in japan.

Is anyone else binging in these while working? I find the rhythm and the mostly japanese lyrics perfect for deep work.
I wasn't born in the 80s, but the images and music make me feel very nostalgic and see that there were many artistic masterpieces back then 💗💗💗

Wow, the images are pretty good. MJ did a great job. Also nice work putting this sweet playlist together for me to enjoy during office work :)
Thank you for including the club mix of Stay with me specifically, the one with the piano solo at the end, best version out there.
PURE LOVE!
It's amazing how ahead of their time they were really, only now are we apreciating thir music when it flew under the radar when it came out. I hate the modern era but without it we would have never found these gems
Love it!!!!!!!!!!!
I am unable to go to next song because I got hooked up with first song itself . Thanks for this wonderful music compilation!!
I only like citypop every now and then but this played after a song in a playlist and I was in the middle of cleaning and I've been listening to it for a while while and cleaning and its the best cleaning day music!
Great playlist. Good taste.

This is my first time listening to Japanese city pop. Japanese music is underrated!
Heavily. It's always K-Pop that steals J-Pop's thunder. Honestly, may be just me, but K-Pop is highly overrated
@@Sora-ING I agree 100%
@Sora-ING But animes in the 80s and 90s had this kind of music. 😂 I think it died down and gave way for Kawaii Pop, Nu Metal, and Emo/Indie scenes over time.
This makes me feel like I’m about to win the big case in court then go get dinner with my fiancé and our friends see us from the window and join us
Japanese music pulls me in like no other 😍❤️ Thanks for this awesome playlist 🥂✨
It's Black American music sung in Japanese. Like most trending songs today but it is nice. I grew up with these songs being played continuously by my ancestors. Do you attribute a book to the translator or the original author?
Very cool playlist. My favourite is Remeber Summer Day, it's so sad and fun at the same time. Btw i have a question. Where from is that shot that goes with Remember Summer Days?
A fine and well-curated selection of songs.
I discovered this playlist and now I'm happy and hooked for like weeks
Stay With Me - Miki Matsubara! Great Song!
