Someone told me City Pop is all about enjoying your evening without any worries for tomorrow. Wish everyone who's listening a peaceful evening 🖤
you're absolutely right
And yet the genre is filled with songs that while upbeat, are downright depressing from a lyrical standpoint.
Don't believe everything people tell you
Wow that's cool!
It summarizes the views of that time: enjoying the economic bubble as long as it lasts before the crash comes...
All my fake 80's japanese childhood memories come back, although i am 23 yo Polish guy 🥹
Right? We are still a figment of imagination during that time.
lmao! But yeah, I can remember riding cars under the street lights of 80's japan, but I am 32 at brazil, never being at japan! its a clearly memory I have xD hahahaha
Na zdrowie🍸
80’s / 90’s japan is almost every guy’s childhood memory (real or imaginary)
Same here, i can smell the cherry blossom trees as I walked down listening to Plastic Love back in the 80s when I was 16, ahh such good memories. Im 19 from Sweden
It's not a real JP 80's city pop playlist unless it starts with Stay With Me to set the mood.
STAY WITH MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
we stayed with her but she never stayed with us 😥
one of the best comment
True and real
I literally see that song on every playlist!
My mom has friend who can sing these songs very well. She was a Filipino who works as a bar singer/performer in Japan during the 80s. She's in her late 50s now, but can still sing some of these songs on point!
amazing! I wish her nothing but healthy life and blessings. cheers.
Wow eso es muy cool
That's amazing! God bless for sharing!😊❤
dat is so cool man. u got a city pop relic right there.
Wanna share her channel so that we can also enjoy?
My grandpa said this type of music inspired the bar he opened in the 80s “Tokyo Delves” in Los Angeles when he first immigrated here from Japan - pretty dope people still listen to it
yo, your grandad? Thats dope
You sir/lady are a very lucky person to have that kind of grandparent 🙂
username checks out :) I'd love to have a place like that in my city.
I'm sorry they closed it down
"We may speak different languages, but music is a language we all understand." From Japan 🌺
Maybe many people don't know "city pop" is not only a music genre...it was the portrayal of an era through music.
It represented the Japan of the 80s, the Japan that gracefully rode the wave of prosperity, a perfect breeding ground not only for thinking about the future...but even not needing to for because its present was already perfect. The Japan where young office workers had exorbitant salaries and young couples were able to buy big houses, a cosmopolitan bubble-life where young salarymen and male and female students had a bright future, where everyone wanted to live.
"City pop" talked about the joy of life and nightlife, love, happiness, an endless paradise that had to be enjoyed very fast and very lively, before the decade finishes and 90s come...
Super interesting thanks 👌
Very insightful, thanks!
Things really have changed.
These songs make you nostalgic for things that you did not even experience.
You can clearly visualize those old anime while listening to these songs.
They just have a certain "feel" that you can't find in today's songs.
They still do that today
IKR... it's a peculiar feeling
Yu Yu Hakusho comes to mind
True
"You can clearly visualize those old anime while listening to these songs."
This 100%
To everyone who’s reading this comment: you have a great taste for music. Love you 💜
Love you too ! ♥♪♫

you too :3
What if I hate the entire playlist?
@@alexanderkuptsov6117 we will be sad
I'm happy that people all over the world are listening to Japanese songs 👏
I'm just trying to see the lyrics in english or in portuguese, but yeah, great songs! This rhythm, instruments and voices are such a vibe! Greetings from the other side of the world 🇧🇷🤝🇯🇵
@@rodrigol.c.4369
Thank you for your reply✨
Lately I've been listening to the radio a lot, and I wonder why old Japanese music seems to be popular all over the world
I'm happy that people all over the world love my songs, which are as old as when I was born.
@@kenjii8780 youtube started to recommend "plastic love" by mariya takeuchi to everyone in 2017 and 2019 and many western people were introduced to japanese city pop. I love it.
Between Japanese Rock (mostly Indie like Shisamo and Polkadot Stingray) City Pop and modern pop like Aimer, Sawano Hiroyuki, and ReOna, I really don't listen to much anything else lately. Love your people's craft.
Yes we are!
Songs in the 80's will always hit that one good note that youve been waiting for!
Right
80s music is actually fuckin magic
also 90s music
also all the music
but especially 80s
Lol yeah
My son is 1 year old and I usually put my son to sleep listening to this, and he sleeps like an angel. I'm getting him used to hearing and feeling what his father felt in those golden times of the 80s'. We are Brazilians 🙃😃
Nice 😊😄
Tudo de bom pra vc e sua familia mano!
Do you live in Japan?
@@electricbynego8062 nop. We live in Brazil. 😄
I believe there was a time when there were a lot of Brazilian-Japanese in your country.
R.I.P Miki Matusbara. she was a great singer even if she no longer wanted her music to be heard. her story is heartbreaking.
Writing a 30 page essay doesn't feel so bad anymore. THANK YOU :')
Glad im done w college. Working for free sucks
On a rainy sunday at 3:41pm Oct1 2023 in Jamaica listening to this, is peacefull. Not worrying about a damn thing tomorrow.
I love how there are hundreds of city pop playlists on RUclips and they're all the same songs.
Y'know, I came across city pop in late 2018, and it has just occurred to me how much it has profoundly affected my well-being.
Life has its ups and downs, and listening to this helps keep me going.
I wish everyone reading this happiness, success, and abundance.
Yeah, kinda makes you want to squint your eyes and eat rice
@@frankcastle2298 what the hell?
Thanks 😊
City Pop embodies the essence of relishing the present moment without the weight of tomorrow's concerns. To everyone tuning in, here's to wishing you a tranquil and serene evening. May it be filled with peace and contentment. 🖤
🥹 thanks ...u too
Who else is listening these songs in 2024?
Me😊
me:D
3 months later, I'm back to old days
When I do my housework, it's ready. It plays in the background and makes things happier, everything is better with good tracks like these.
Yea, I use for that purpose all the time as well! Haha
Such groovy and relaxing vibes ain't it?
@@EjRamos-oo7rz Yeah ☺️
Literally takes you back to a time when everything was going great.
I went to a seminar that talked about city pop, j pop, viet pop, canto pop, and American pop. They talked about how around the time city pop was in its rising stage it was the same time Japan had a boom in economy and creativity :)
The bass of Airport Lady really hits hard, I love it
I have repeated the song 8 time at least.
it slapss
The bassist really said: "Let me just slap the shit out of it real quick."
Toshiki Kadomatsu 🔥
It sounds like the bass lines from Sonic 2. Just an unstoppable bass groove.
Am I the only one who feels like I'm flying among the stars when listening to city-pop? Maybe that's the purpose of this genre. To create a timeless soaring. The neon lights of the city, like the vibrancy of the Milky Way. Before and after our existence, perhaps our souls are there orbiting into infinity, and this music conveys that sense of life. That is why it has a good atmosphere.
i love this, it gives me the 90s childhood vibes like back then, you didn't know the songs but you know how they felt. now you know the songs, so it's different. but with this it gives me the same vibes. pretty weird but cool
I'm in love with City Pop, and your playlist is amazing! Thank you very much for this hard work, even the artworks for each music look beautiful!
Seriously, this is THE BEST City / J - Pop Playlist i heard on RUclips, an excellent recopilation work Bro / Sis 🤙
This is a nice collection of music to listen to in the background. Nice and chill, not overly distracting. And it brings me memories of when I was a child in that decade.
"Oh No, Oh Yes" lives rent free in my head. I start humming it at random.
Me too.
Ah nostalgia for a time I wasn’t even born yet. It feels like slipping on high waisted jeans with upturned jean jacket, bopping with a yellow Walkman ❤
what the hell.. this is literally life-altering for me right now how have i missed this music all these years lmfao
never too late😸
The 80,s the golden decade of series, mangas, anime, movies, games, and music
God bless you for throwing in Lady Sunshine, its my all-time favorite
stay with me is really a master piece. I can listen to this so much time in Tiktok. It really matches well with Japanese city scenery.
The bass in Airport lady is heckin' awesome. Takes it from a good catchy song, to a complete jam.
Dude, these masterpieces are just pure nostalgic vibe of better, happier, light minded times when life was so good and full of hope. Impossible to not tear up.
I discovered this music genre last year and its been my favourite since, been missing out on good vibes this whole time
Wonderful city pop compilation. These modern city pop compilations takes me back to 2020 that's when I remember seeing so much city pop stuff everywhere online. Cool video. ^_^
Vagabond, your previous City Pop mix was great. Happy to use these bops to lighten up the Monday blues!
Love to hear that! We all need some of that japanese magic on mondays
I have just discovered this genre and wow😊 loving every bit of the nostalgia it's giving me.
SAME!!! Not even sure it popped up in my algorithm, BUT I'm glad it did!!
@Anthony Lambert Jr. Sometimes the algorithm works! And when it does, you find hidden gems like these.
Welcome to the rabbit hole. There is many, many great song in this genre for you to cover

What makes me the most happy is seeing so many positive comments under here.
Hope everyone is having an amazing day!
Thank you!! Great compilation of amazing artists! I just found out about Japanese city pop yesterday and now I am addicted to it! ❤
Add half alive and I don't know how but they found me. Hope you like em as much as I do! Completely different styles but so fun
studying without beeing stressed and enjoying the music. Life couldn't be better
Best played while overnight driving you feel like the world is behind you
no truer words have been said! if only i had a car to enjoy long night drives...........
I can't get enough of the bass runs in Airport Lady. 10:06 is when it really starts shining.
best basslines in all city pop are in that song
As you may know, I recommend Meiko Nakahara's "FANTASY"
i was born at late 80's so my memories are from the earlier 90's. But all the tv shows were from those years at 80's and I remember tv shows like liveman or Jiban and it does take me back to those simple years when the unique way to get fun without going out from home, was to seat down in front of the tv, turn in on and enjoy those olds tv shows.
This playlist goes so hard. I honestly dont even know how I stumbled on it but so happy I did. Followed the spotify one as well to hear more, appreciate it! Love finding new music.
'All of the art in the video is generated by Midjourney.' wtf noooo they look so eerily familiar but I will never get to see them in animated form. gonna watch some sailor moon now.
I was trying to find out what animes the pictures were from 😭 i wish they were real characters haha
So they're not real🥺?
😢😢😮😅
jaw dropped. I really thought they were real 80s anime drawings

I'm a total music junkie, been singing and listening to music since I was 3 years old. I search new music often and love all kinds of genres and this is my first time heaing this one! Thanks for sharing, I'm lovin' it.
I love that term "music junkie," totally gonna have to steal that lol
This is the type of music that is for stress relief, to sleep, to study, and just to listen to.
the type of music for a man of culture
Thank you for the playlist it's helping me with my school work, much love from South Africa.
Thank you for posting this! Helped me through a stressful night of doing my taxes!
closing the playlist with Just A Joke is a power move, a good one at that
"Oh No Oh Yes" is my whole late teen hood. Ugh....nostalgia from waaaaaaay back on so many lvls
I have never been this in love with song playlist before
The 80s is truly the golden age for music man
for real
While the 90s and early 2000s had iconic songs, there's definitely a switch in the quality of music, and that's mainly due to corporations trying to play it safe.
If you think of any popular modern artist, nearly none of them actually write their own songs.
Nowadays all modern songs sound pretty similar, to the point where it's hard to tell which artist even sang it.
The 80s on the other hand bred creativity with its music, you had to stand out to make it on the radio.
You could instantly tell which artist made which song from the unique style and voice.
well said@@m_ruben

If ever I'd finally made my mancave, City Pop is definitely going to be it's theme or background music. Thanks for compiling these. Helped me in picking out good titles for my project in the (far) future 😅
My short escape after a long and tiring work day. Thank you for uploading this, wish everyone a pleasant evening.
Anri is and shall forever be my queen. _Timely!!_ is perfect, of course, but personally, my heart will always belong to _Heaven Beach_ .
when this playlist starts with "Stay with Me" you know you have come to the right place :)

thanks!! i like JP 80's style, and i think it's really good to show album cover and character
Driving at night while listening to this will give you 80's Tokyo vibes but it'll be hit harder if you drive either DR30 Skyline, FC RX-7, 280/300ZX or A70 Supra
I buy a 90s MX5 only for this😅
That's a good video card
this music just does something to me, it makes me an 80s kid despite being a 90s baby
Never listened to 80's pop, didn't know I needed to until now.
Thanks for this compilation!!! Anri just smokes hot. And the Junko Yagami s a beloved track of mine. Besides the universally beloved plastic love. Great music this ppl created. City pop s da bomb.
I only knew about this kind of music from 80's / 90's anime I watched as a kid, Sailor Moon being the best example that comes to mind, so I guess it should be no surprise that I see it referenced constantly. Now it's 2023 and I'm discovering Japanese Future Funk and the beauty of Japanese City Pop. Man I needed this-- too much negativity in the world that this music penetrates without giving a single flying fuck and I'm here for the ride!
Just what I said,, this is kinda an extended Sailor Moon playlist. I'm out of my mind!
Thank you for these discoveries that I listen in loop
