JoVaughn your not holding us we’re here cause we love the music and you and your reactions we could be else where but we prefer here ,I could do this all day and night I think all of us here feel the same We want to be here . Thanks 😊
Hey you have to do some of the great Patti Labelle If only you knew and Love,Need and want you , and Angela Winbush Angel beautiful voices 🤩🙌🏻🤩🙌🏻🤗🙌🏻🤗🤩🤩❤️❤️❤️❤️ On my own too
@@Udgrasil13 I agree, Billie's version is much more bitter sounding than Nina's. You can hear the anger in her voice. Nina's is drench with sadness and hopelessness. Both are devastating in their own right
@@mattkenary Agreed! Holiday’s version is superior but both contain its own raw emotion on the topic that can’t be matched. Beautiful and innovative women the both of them
Hi from Australia. I love your reactions, open mindedness and your passion. Nina Simone is such an important artist. You are getting the right education!
This was a song from the Broadway musical "Hair" about the hippie counterculture. As a 12-year-old, I could sing the entire songbook and even got to see the play, famous for having one scene where the entire cast was nude. On a very dark stage. So you couldn't see anything anyway. It was made into an okay movie starring Treat Williams.
The 1 & only NINA SIMONE cut we need 2b listening2 is. MISSISSIPPI GODDAMM❗🎶💎 although every pc of music NINA touched was magnificent .🎶REST n Music 4eva...🌹💖💎
I had to send it out during these awful times! I loved her and saw her sing that in person!!!!T/! U JV for playing her. Trying to get it on FB. If you can, please do! God bless
Another great singer I had forgotten, I loved listening to this wonderful lady, she sings with such emotion and power. I can't remember her other songs sadly but the moment I saw her name I had to hear her sing again, its been too long!!! Your reactions are so clear and you felt for a while what she was feeling, life is the one thing we have that should be revered and not wasted. Take care and stay safe please my friends love hugs and Peace Mary-Ellen UK
Miss Nina Simone. Wrote "Young, Gifted and Black". Was still singing till she passed a couple of years ago. Saw her in Australia a few years ago, she received a 5 minute standing ovation as she arrived on stage. We were crying and couldnt stop...so powerful
Nina suffered so much bigotry and racism, it was horrible. She is an amazing singer, and I am so happy to see people rediscovering her. She deserves to never be forgotten. Some of her other great songs are Feelin' Good, Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, My Baby Just Cares For Me, Mississippi Goddam, Love Me Or Leave Me, Sinnerman, I Put A Spell on You.
I was introduced to Nina Simone when I was 17 in high school in Brooklyn, NYC.I went to many of her concerts and met her at JFk airport coming from Ghana in the 70's!!! Nina was in Ghana like many Blacks Americans in 70's and 80's!!!
You are in for a real treat, Cindy! I have never watched reaction channels before, but I stopped here. He is a joy to watch, and he really enjoys getting to know new artists to him. Welcome!
Nina always has a song I haven't yet explored and it almost always hits you in the gut first. The way this song references material things and existential things is truly soul wrenching. It certainly a must listen for anyone who's only ever known her for Sinnerman. She has an astounding body of work, but if you need a place to start, this is the place.
I though you reacted to her version of “Feeling Good.” Am I remembering wrong??? Well, if you haven’t heard it, I think you will love it! It’s my favorite Nina Simone song.
The first time I heard of Nina Simone, was when Briget Fonda played a street kid turned assassin in the movie Point Of No Return. Nina Simone was her escape from reality. After that, I got my hands on as much of her music as I could find. I like this video and this was deep...but Nina and her voice can take you places that you are happy to have never seen and sad to know that she has, especially as deeply as she conveys it. Love, love, love her and think you should listen to some more of her. I am sure you will feel as enriched as I did to have 'discovered' her. : )
I've been listening to some of your old beautiful songs today and some of the ones by Queen so it made me think of a song that Michael Jackson and Freddie Mercury did as a duet back in the 1980s. " there's more to life than this"❤❤❤❤❤ MJ and Freddie were really good friends, and had it not been for Michael Jackson Another One Bites the Dust would have never been released and been quadruple Platinum..simple,!! Check out that duet between the two of them because it's really really a beautiful song and I think you'll love it. If you like the Bee Gees you will definitely love that song.
Great performance, there is another version of this song with a colour video, it's superb too. "Stars" live at Montreux is very touching too. I also love "Baltimore".
Nina's first love was the piano, she dreamed of being a classical concert pianist, but she discovered that there was no chance of a black female concert pianist being successful, so she turned to jazz piano and vocals instead - and she was amazing at it. One of the most distinctive husky voices ever. Check out Nina singing "My Baby Just Cares for Me", with the clay animation video that Aardman studios made for it decades later, making the song a hit all over again.
Oh yeah Nina! You gotta check out I Put a Spell on You, Feelin Good, Mississippi Godamn and Sinnerman. A really important artist in music and cultural history. You also need to check out Billie Holliday Strange Fruit, a powerful song about lynching. You go Javon, keep on learning
From here on out you should know by now to expect to be blown away by the songs we suggest. Lot of incredible talent back in the day. We won't give you any crap to listen to.
She is absolutely brilliant, pianist, singer & songwriter...you will find absolute gold in anything she does. Try "Ne Me quitte pa" & "Mississippi GODDAMN"
Hi Jay, I'd never heard of Nina until 1987 when 'My Baby Just Cares For Me ' was used to advise Chanel No.5 and made the UK charts, it's a great track, give it a listen 😁👍
She grew up very poor, in the South. An elderly while woman tutored her in classical piano. Went to Julliard for a while, and tried to transfer to a music school in PA., and was rejected. Became a great friend of David Bowie.
Your videos are great! I'm new to your content, but you kept me occupied during lockdown! I love your reactions (especially the ELO ones), and I just want to let you know you're doing a brilliant job, keep going!
Nina Simone is a diva. What you ignored is that she is doing this song in support of South African people in the time of apartheid and she is singing "I've got my freedom"! She is also referring to the plight of blacks in those times in the USA and elsewhere.
From the Broadway musical "Hair." The soundtrack album from that show was huge in the fall of 1968 and spawned quite a few hits for various artists, including The Fifth Dimension and Three Dog Night. Worth seeing if you can find it.
I loved your reaction to Nina Samone's song. Your reaction brought me to tears because I could see that it deeply touched you. Please listen to her song "To Be Young Gifted & Black. I would love to see your reaction. Keep on doing this I think it's great I'm looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
One of my favorite artists, strong, female energy. But this song blew my mind because it was covered in the musical "Hair" wow, amazing. Could you please react to Nina Simon's"I did it My Way"❤️
Good job young man. To the woman who said Nina Simone’s aim was to make her white audiences Uncomfortable and she was Confrontational: you only imagine you know her. How many times did you go see her. Her audience was in her groove, she knew that. If she had condescended to make us feel uncomfortable, how many white folks would stand in line to buy her tickets ? I started listening to her in 1959 and never stopped. I saw her at UCLA, she sat quietly for a moment and then the first thing she said was : Where are the black students supposed to be going to this university ? She had us in the palm of her hand. She was a master and I was happy to buy a lot of her albums RIP Dear Nina
thanks for reacting to the extraordinary ms nina, dr j - could i recommend as a next stop the lady's version of "wild is the wind" - a wonderful version of a wonderful song - also covered by david bowie.
My baby just cares for me ! One of her best !✌️
Yes!!! 🤘🏼
Struggling with and fighting prejudice. She is there singing about her struggle in life to a white audience. Brave and strong woman.
And she finished her song with “ she has freedom and her God” that is key.
JoVaughn your not holding us we’re here cause we love the music and you and your reactions we could be else where but we prefer here ,I could do this all day and night I think all of us here feel the same We want to be here . Thanks 😊
I appreciate that
Connie Sloan yeah well said. I’m loving his reactions to some fantastic musicians and it keeps reminding me of all the music I grew up with.
Horse Footrot me too ♥️
Hey you have to do some of the great Patti Labelle If only you knew and Love,Need and want you , and Angela Winbush Angel beautiful voices 🤩🙌🏻🤩🙌🏻🤗🙌🏻🤗🤩🤩❤️❤️❤️❤️ On my own too
It's my favorite past time watching your RUclips videos
One of my favorite singers, her version of Strange Fruit is devastating.
Yes, definitely. But Billie Holidays live performance of that song is haunting as well.
@@Udgrasil13 I agree, Billie's version is much more

I took my kids to see a production of it about a year ago. My daughter particularly likes, as I do, Frank Mills.
Kathy Toy My parents took us kids to see HAIR in 1968 when I was 10...I can so relate to your comments haha
There's a documentary about her on Netflix, "What Happened, Miss Simone?"
Yes~ it's very good. She struggled w/ mental illness & personality issues that alienated even her kids at times but what a supreme talent!
Loved it!
It's a great documentary
It's wild we're still dealing with the same things she's saying. This song is so awesome.❤
My favorite from the fabulous Ms Nina is “Mississippi Goddamn”. I really enjoyed your reaction, Javon. All the best to you.
“Feeling good” other nice song of Nina
This! You really should listen to "Feeling Good". Sheer class.
Feeling Good is my favorite Nina song.
One of the most uplifting songs ever!

If you’ve got this much wisdom at your age, I cant wait till you’re my age. Keep shining. 💜
I had to send it out during these awful times! I loved her and saw her sing that in person!!!!T/!
U JV for playing her. Trying to get it on FB. If you can, please do! God bless
This is a medley from the musical Hair. She was SUPREME in her talent. See the Netflix documentary
It is great and is called 'What Happened Miss Simone?'. It is also available on disk.
The best voice you never heard! Thanks for this reaction!

When you say it like that !! I'm so grateful for everything I have got xxxx
All of Nina Simone's songs are great. The emotion in her voice always blows me away. Enjoy discovering her song book.
“Feeling good” is another awesome song of hers
Sinnerman is a real high point!
Sinnerman was the first Nina I heard and from that point, her music became part of my life.
Nina always has a song I haven't yet explored and it almost always hits you in the gut first. The way this song references material things and existential things is truly soul wrenching. SHES A LEGEND!! ❤️Thank you for playing her song! Btw, if you want to know more about her life, watch her documentary!
I remember first hearing this in the 60s. And it has been in my heart and soul ever since. Nina's version of "I put a spell on you" is also wonderful.

Check out Nina Simone's "You Can Have Him". I saw her perform live at Carnegie Hall. She was a deeply moving performer. One of a kind.
Wild is the Wind is a stunning piece of music by Nina Simone
♥️♥️♥️Nina!!!
Two of my favorite performances are when she sings "Suzanne" and "Black is the Color of my True Love's Hair"
Nina.
My my, I recall singing this as a little 6 or 7 years old, in about 1969. Good call.
This classic song she is performing was later reborn on the hit play and movie, "HAIR"......
Just WOW!!!!!
A True Legend!
