I just turned 64 and have been a Warehouse/Facility manager for over 20 years (not to mention being in manufacturing, production and inventory control) and was recently down-sized due to a business losing customers to the competition in their market. We went from 200 plus employees to under 100 in less than 5 months. As I started back interviewing, I have great success in the "phone" interview portion, so much so, they can't wait to get me on-site for a sit down interview. As soon as they see me, I can tell by the interview questions that this is going no where fast. I had my resume reviewed and tweaked by a professional service. When I get called for an interview, I have heard this several times; "your resume is so impressive, you are our first candidate." With that said, my resume has no embellishing added, it's just me. I have been to over 25 of these type of interviews and no, it is not me or my experience, it is ageism.

Well... it's an understatement to say that's crappy. Employment is important at any time and age bias should not get in the way. I'm sorry and I hope someone out there is willing to open a door for you.

I find all this horrible. In my life, when I was a hiring manager, I looked at skills when hiring, and age was irrelevant. My father was inspirational in this mindset because his stance was, "Everyone needs to eat," and he hired all types of people when he was alive. We really need a list of favourable companies that understand the benefit of skilled, experienced people and how they can market these skills to build a better business. I was recently told I would need to give up hours because the company wanted to give the younger employees more; I am currently only allowed to work 40 hours a month. I still get paid a senior wage, but 40 hours does not equal much more than unemployment pay.

I'm 37. I think one major aspect of DEI that's made it so popular is the way in which it's actually reinforced age discrimination. It gives companies the perfect excuse not to hire people with lot's of experience, people that might be harder to manipulate and cost more. Another advantage of DEI is that it's intentionally vague. At least with Affirmative Action the idea was clear.

Is there a list of companies which are age-supportive? I already know of one who is not, and I would like to migrate to a position that recognizes that I have skills that can help the company regardless of my age.

Hi Old Guy! :) I don't know of something like that. It's a good idea though. I would say that few DEI programs have a conscious age consideration.

although you biologically clearly could look either male or female, but there are genderless people based on their feelings or behavior , we should also make ageless orienation to fight ageism , besides feelings or behavior, you biologically clearly could look from another age
