The building is just an eyesore now. I drove past it a while ago and was trying to remember when it closed, last I remember being there was 2009. The sad urban decay of North County...it was once a thriving place. Built around the defense industry, it was a great place to raise a family in the Cold War years. Then all the family values people began leaving in droves in the 90s and what replaced them has been very detrimental. If you're of a certain age and remember what it was like, it's very sad and depressing to watch.

It is CRAZY how stained the tiles get beneath the shelves. I saw this first hand in the Toys R Us in Evansville, IN. It closed and then a pop up Christmas toy store opened in it a few months later when 50% of the fixtures were still inside.
Was out of town when it closed down, and wasn't too surprised it was happening.
Probably didn't help that the Walkmart right next to it was being built...

1977. I can understand why it closed due to demogaphics.
You have a great father buying you a shotgun. I take my sons out to practice with our guns at the nearby ranges.
Yeah the area is ghetto as hell now.
So upsetting to see my store in shambles. I used to be a sales floor supervisor at this very store. I miss it all. I wish there was a way to bring Kmart back.

Hi, that is super sad. Why would they smash a blue light like that come on in 2018? The company was still operating they could’ve sent that blue light to another store but nope they destroyed it and got rid of both of them. So sad. I had two Kmart in my area Liverpool, New York, and Mattydale, New York. Mattydale is turned into a clear Halloween during Halloween. and then Liverpool turned into a U-Haul. Let me tell you they destroyed that Kmart the main entrance is still there but now they have a separate entrance on the side of the building a garage door with the pin code so you can drive your boats, your trucks, your cars, your SUVs, whatever fits in the building can be properly stored in a store unit within the store. I haven’t been in that Kmart in Liverpool since they closed down and I don’t even know how it looks now now that it permanently is gone I know the garden center is being used for the truck parking and then like I said the front entrance has been destroyed with the garage door and the keypad lock. Mattydale turned into a Spirit Halloween every year now they used to be over in the water damage Michael’s arts and craft store, but then moves into Kmart and let me tell you in 2023. I found the Kmart cart, living its life out as a spirit cart. it still says Kmart on it and it still red because the Kmart was like I think you’re saying Boston into the side of it but there’s no getting rid of that Kmart logo off the cart but it lives on as a Kmart Spirit Halloween cart, and Spirit Halloween was using it as a cart for their store since it was abandoned when the store went out of business, I believe left in the store so hopefully I get to take a picture of that car every year I go and get to see the famous Kmart Halloween. I call it a.k.a. Spirit Halloween store in the old Kmart. If you look it up that Nate guy on RUclips, Nate and Marion nates son that other Nate guy did a video at the Matale Kmart spirit Halloween store so you can go see what it look like in 2023 for Halloween and I did a video a video on it and I think I uploaded it on my channel but if it’s not blocked like a lot of my TikTok are being blocked on RUclips it should be there and you should be able to see some of it. The other guy did a good video on it and he also did a video on the one in Liverpool New York as well that used to be at the great Northern mall that went out of business that moved into thrifty shopper on old Liverpool Road, so go check out his videos of the thrifty shopper of the Mattydale Kmart. I hope Spirit gets to stay in Kmart or something new, but for now spirit is taking over my local Kmart.
