I just filmed a closed Kmart about 7 miles from where I live.
Well I still count the Gordon Highway Augusta Kmart as abandoned because it got taken over by a u-haul that was literally located 2 miles down the highway. at least my childhood store (Martinez GA) got taken over by a Carolina Pottery 6 months after it closed in 2012. It used to still have the thank you for shopping BIG K sign above the door and the K Cafe sign until they "renovated" the store in 2018 removing anything that said Kmart on the sales floor moving the vending machines from the Kmart inside tearing off the green awnings and painting the facade brown to match the colors of Carolina Pottery and cover the barely visible Big Kmart logo scar..
Have an abandoned Kmart down the road from me in Webster,MA. Had many good childhood memories there, sad to see it close.

Here in Rapid City, South Dakota, our old K and the mini mall it was is being mega refurbed , millions being spent to turn it into a new grocery store and other things. Least some good came out of it.

I have a few fixtures from this store- a battery tote, a flatbed cart, and a shopping hand basket. It was a good store, a large store- the largest in St Louis that opened originally as a Kmart (ie none of the converted Kmart's).
I've also got a TON of pictures of this from 2017/2018 when it was still normal operations, but they're all on my computer (not sure if I'll ever share them, they're simply for my own enjoyment when I want to remember what once was here).
I had such a special tie to this one, just like Griffin did, but how cool was it that the manager from this one transferred over to Richmond, Indiana's? And, she was a Venture worker who worked at the Fairmont City Venture! She started with Kmart in 1998 after they took over multiple Venture's here, then later went to Indiana's after they closed this one.
2:28 you know what was cool that they did here? In winter like this, this area would be their outdoor Christmas displays and trees, with a few little items like Christmas villages and such. It was such a cool idea, so the Garden Shop was used all year long!

There’s two other Kmart’s in Florissant. Both were 10 minutes away from each other. Not sure when the one closed but when I went through it was boarded up and the second one closed in early 2019 I believe cus when I went it was the final 5 days. Wish I got video of the boarded up one
