The Midlo Center is excited to present "From Robert E. Lee to Mama D," a collection of education resources, innovated by University of New Orleans public history students, exploring the historical significance of New Orleans women who are on the docket to replace streets currently named for confederates and white supremacists. These educational resources include research starter kits, interactive games, and TikToks to be used at home and in the classroom.
In partnership with the City Archives & Special Collections - New Orleans Public Library, New Orleans Public Library, and nola4women, UNO students took a leading role in brainstorming and creating new teaching tools for students, teachers, and locals, and visitors.
The street renaming process is led by the New Orleans Street Renaming Commission with input from a number of community members and organizations including Paper Monuments, Sue Mobley, and Thomas Addams.
