Yea, murderer shooting from ambush. Lawman are just 1/2 notch above the criminals they hunt. Most -in fact - are criminals themselves. Don't believe me? Wait until that knock comes at UR door @ 4 am.

Few people remember Bonnie &Clyde killed 12 people before Frank ended their lives. Hollywood has been cruel in the past , portraying him as inept and fueled by revenge in the 67 movie Bonnie& Clyde. His family successfully sued the movies producers. A recent movie "The Highwaymen" is a fair portrayal of the man.

I wonder why Warren Beatty would go out of his way to smear Hamer. Why can’t Hollywood just tell the damn story instead of always pushing a narrative. The Hamer family sued and they settled out of court.

I had asked my grandfather, who had been born at the turn of the century, what he had remembered or thought about the events of his youth, such as the Titanic, WWI, Bonnie and Clyde, etc. He was pretty clear that the intelligent people of that time were tired of the crime spree these criminals were on, and gladly welcomed an end to the violence of the depression and prohibition. Only "ignorant folk and kids" thought they were heros.

That is fantastic that you had a first hand source of information that the rest of us can only read about. At the time of the Titanic he would have been a teenager, and at the time of Bonnie and Clyde he would have been in his 30s. More than old enough to have formed an educated opinion.

Raymond Hamilton was actually more daring, successful and notorious in Texas at that time. Back in those days in small town Texas, people would tell their kids to be home before dark so Ray Hamilton won’t getcha! Raymond and Ralph Fults kidnapped my great uncle JC Loftice for his new Ford V8,, somewhere on the backroads of Colin county. They kept him for a few days driving around DFW, Raymond gave JC a BAR mag and an 06 round as a reminder to not lead a life of crime. My cousin has this now at home in Plano.

Both were present actually. Hamer was using a Remington Model 8. I think there was at least one other there. IIRC, Hinton had a Colt Monitor, which was just an improved version of the BAR. That gun is on display at the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum.

The story-telling was very good, but marred a bit with Progressive takes on history.
Frank Hamer was wise and principled in his low view of a woman governor, and being unwilling to work for her.
The story-teller derided Mr Hamer as sexist for that.
Women aren't cut-out to be good leaders, e.g., they tend to be too emotional in their thinking, weak with logical thinking, easily deceived and misled, etc.
It's sad to see modern men being duped and emasculated by feminism.

@@jimisnotunique nope I’m actually pretty conservative politically. Women actually tend to be more ruthless and cunning. I liked Thatcher and loved Reagan. You think Nancy Pelosi isn’t cunning? Love her or hate her, she is pretty ruthless. I don’t like her myself, but women can be as ruthless, and plotting, just as well as men.
