I always loved the works of Su Dongpo and recently found the Slender Gold calligraphy of Huizong. I didn't expect that the two had such strong opinions of one another.

My favorite literati. I have a 1-meter by 2-meter rubbing of his work from the Beilin Museum in Xi'an and every time I visit Hangzhou I visit the small museum dedicated to him. 十年生死兩茫茫... My favorite poem of his is the dedication to the memory of his first wife.

Su Shi is a perfect human being. One in a thousand years.

Thank you very much for making this video. Su Shi is from my hometown Sichuan, so is Li Bai. Although Su has a much wider impact on Sichuan people, Li is much more famous for foreigners. As a mandarin teacher, I would like to recommend the 《百家讲坛-苏轼》 to people who want to know more about Su Shi.

Oh dear. I didn't know Emperor Huizong hated his guts. I guess Su was like Bourdain or some Beatnik poet...

I don't know if I'd put it that strongly...but let's just say, not a Su Shi fan.
