Would this also cause the fan to intermit turn on and turn off by itself?

Well I tried mine but no improvement. Very little air comes out the front vents unless I have it on high speed

Beware the fan motor gets dirt in them from the brushes. Clean the motor and your problems may go away

Mine is turning off and on by itself and kinda goes crazy some times
