    Dean Martin said early in his career he use to see the Mills brother , that a lot of his style came from them. Harry Mills especially Harry Mills which is on his left. Notice Dean h
    right hand is mainly on Harry shoulder or around his back. That's a sign of real affection for Harry, all of the Mills brother.

    This was life back in the 60s and 70s. We had many variety shows like Dean Martin and got to watch and hear these amazing performers every week. I think we took it a little for granted.

      ............. The music in that period was fantastic. The oldtimers were still performing and recording. Pop music was great. Country music was up and coming. It was all there at one time. Yes, we took it for granted. Why would we have thought it would end...? Boy, were we wrong. Look at most of the music of today. Certainly not the same..........

    The Mills Brothers were indeed brothers, though when they started off, their father, John Sr, sang with them until 1956. Then they went at it as a three piece.
    One thing about this video is that Dean Martin was a HUGE Harry Mills fan, and said frequently that Harry was the guy he wanted to sound most like. I certainly understand, he had one of the premier voices of the swing era. The trio was one of the tightest groups out there, they breathed and phrased together in ways that remind me of Duke Ellington's sax section. I could listen to the Mills Brothers for the rest of my life and not feel shorted in the least.

    • @josephgiustiniani2834
      @josephgiustiniani2834 2 года назад +1

      .............. I know they are a trio, but I always consider the guitar player the fourth. And Dean the fifth...! IMO, they really should have done a couple of albums together. Imagine how blessed we would be to hear that. Lets not forget, the shows we watched of the Mills Brothers and Dean were done live....! And pulled off perfect. Imagine in a studio with a talented band. I would have bought that album without even hearing it first. Can you tell I really like these guys and their music..????

    • @willmorrison1022
      @willmorrison1022 2 года назад

      @@josephgiustiniani2834 I certainly understand. I understand ANYONE who feels that way about them.
      Music was SO much better when it was real. We could always tell, even as kids, when someone was faking it to a recording. And when they were really doing it. What a shame that we've allowed the industry to mess with the real reason people like music, the emotional things it makes you feel.
      Same with movies and other entertainment. Watch an old movie from the 40's and tell me it's not better than what they are doing today. Watch the original of 12 Angry Men and tell me they are doing anything even CLOSE to that, now. I sound like the old man I am, "things were better when I was a kid", but they REALLY WERE.

    Dean was called the fifth Mills Brother. He loved those guys and they loved him. The way they performed shows the respect they had for each other. Dean has said that Harry Mills was the guy he emulated. That is saying something. They are all gone now, as this style of music is also gone. But we have proof that it used to be with us. Sad that it's gone.
