My prediction: The Disney extending lightsaber will be a fragile contraption for show only. The third party tinkerer / hobbysphere will take the idea and develop it into a saber that stands up to combat.

When the hotel opens next year, they have slightly smaller than real life actual x-wings. About the size of a mini-van. They will fly over the park several times a day. Oh yeah they have the droids already.

The big questions that will inform my desire for one:
Does it retract as well as it extends automatically?
How fragile is it?
The hilt looks too chunky and the blade a bit too short. Wait a couple years for the next gens to come out and they’ll be better.
I'm going to need some more details as to how exactly this works and what the blade is made of, but - if it really looks this great in person - WOW. It must be some kind of VERY light material to be compressed into the hilt like that.

Yeah, absolutely no clashes with this, I'd reckon too hard of a swing could even damage the mechanism. This looks like the kind of thing you would only use for a cosplay to walk around with.

Calling it, a sturdier balloon (the motion of the 2nd take displays the blade bouncing around like if the air is hitting the blade itself) with a small fan that "inflates" it when powered on with only the tip being maybe a hard plastic and maybe 1) a cable inside attached to a motor that retracts it when powered down or 2) you have to self retract it yourself. All in all, still looks really cool.
Makes me wonder, can this be retroactively added to the 'sabers people got/made at the Disney parks already- or will they have to buy completely new ones?
(Also want to see it up close- make sure we're not getting excited for CGI)
