That is the first I have seen of overdrive in a WPL so good job. I use over drive in my Axial SCX24 and 1/10 scale crawlers. I feel like there is a lot to learn from the 1/10 scale world to be applied to WPL crawlers to make them perform well. I have seen a few Frankenstein WPLs that are closer to the 1/10 world and your overdrive is brilliant.
Simple to patch together a gearbox lift bracket and aluminum scale skid plate for the overdrive housing but great job so far and I do believe this is a first when it comes to overdrive on the wpl c44
I think it's a grand idea. My thoughts are such that I do feel the geometry of these trucks is their limitation. The motor mounting design is like having a fully extended boat keel to contend with at every move. SCX24 has had overdrive gears available for a little over a year and people swear by the performance. I have a kit for one of my 3 and have yet to install it but it's in-hand! I think, by now, you're admittedly aware that WPL trucks just don't perform the same way others do. It takes a TON of work to get these things to run like other crawlers. To that end, I can understand the question of dedication to the project. I'd say continue but it requires a full redesign of the chassis rails to start. Get that damn motor and xfer case out of the way and move on from there! All about it, myself. Would love to see the results. But other stuff needs to happen, too ;)

I feel like the single speed gearbox would be the better choice for overdrive than doing it on axle like I did

I was thinking v2 could be done on the back of the single speed gearbox
