I started declutter because I moved 7 times in the past 10 years. I'm a 71 year old widow. I have one daughter. I am making things easy for her and her husband to take care of things when I die. I have instructions written down in a notebook. What can be thrown away, papers they might need, who to contact, etc. I do not want anyone to struggle with decisions on what to do. we all live together.
Everything I own is in my bedroom and one closet.

This is so true, i literally NEVER have huge piles of dishes cause i only have 4 plates and 2 bowls and 1 mug 😂😂😂
I visited a friend and his ENTIRE kitchen top counter was covered in unwashed dishes, it was like they just kept buying new plates instead of washing the ones they already had 😭😭😭!!
Minimalism has changed my entire life, and it all started when i realised that i have to get a GRIP on my finances. I am SICK of being POOR 😭😭😭 never having money, never having savings, constantly consuming and buying new stuff, toys, takeaways, clothes, etc.
I only became a minimalist in May and I've already saved over 2K!!!! and I'M AN ARTIST WHO BARELY GETS ANY WORK OR SALES so 2k is actually crazy to me!!!!! ;o;!!!!
If you told me last year that I am going to spend 6 months not buying anything and declutter 90% of my belongings, i'd have called you a liar. If you then told me that the experiment was so successful and life-changing that i'd spend the summer at 3 different relatives houses, tidying, organising, decluttering, AND TEACHING THEM FINANCIAL LITERACY & SAVINGS PLANS, I WOULD HAVE CALLED YOU INSANE 😭😭😭!! ((My Dad has me booked next lmaooo))
And I really enjoy sorting out everyone's mess 🤣🤣🤣!!
I just can't believe the domino effect trying to save money has had on my life
Save money>>buy less sugar foods>>lose weight>>mental health improves>>less stress>>there is also less stuff in the house to clean>>more time for fun stuff & getting more artwork done to sell>>more money>>more savings>>more time and money to visit friends and family and go on holidays
There's so much more, please, if you've never tried minimalism, or at least a "no spend month" give it a go x

I started decluttering when I moved back to London 2 years ago… I’ve genuinely never been happier and calmer since removing so many things that I didn’t use, didn’t need or just never let go of.

I gotta disagree on the "It's not a privilege to be a minimalist" it really is. You have the time to be able to go through your stuff and the financial comfort to know that if you get rid of something and end up needing it later, it's not a big deal to find another one but to people who can't afford to replace an item if they need it later, then decluttering and replacing that item would be a loss of money especially in areas where its hard to find things second hand. Don't get me wrong, a little bit of minimalism would do everyone good but I think it's important to recognize that it is a privilege to be able to get rid of things that you're not actively using but are still "useful"

It's actually a more difficult decision now than ever before, with prices of everything rising daily in our current economy.
Something I might have donated a year ago because if I needed to I could replace it with $10 or $15......these days something I bought for $10 might be $30 or $40 or $50 to replace!
As far as privilege goes, I can see both sides. It is a privilege to own a bunch of stuff in perfectly good condition that you don't use & don't need....but I'm way below poverty level myself (almost 60 & it's a long story, but trust me it's a real struggle)...but even so, my home was filled with 30+ years of clutter & it was so freeing to clear a lot of it out.
Even us poor folks can accumulate a LOT of clutter, especially if given decades to do it lol.
(Edit: But yeah, these days if it's something I might need later, I'm scared to donate it because expensive to replace!)

I know what you're talking about! There are some things that are worth saving for later. Because it will cost a LOT more to replace them in the future, and the quality of products is declining... plus the availability could be very limited in the future. Example: I ignored a box of clothes that I was not wearing, for 12 years, but when I finally opened it I found a Treasure: A few pairs of great quality new hiking socks that I actually needed and could not find that style anywhere. So it's worth it to save some things for later, but store them out of the way of your everyday life. I definitely agree with decluttering and minimizing, especially things that are costing me money/time/emotional drains. Everyone can have their own definition of Minimalism.

That is true, and also all the more reason for communities to have an active Buy Nothing group. Sadly the one in my current town is barely active, but the one in my old town was so helpful in decluttering AND acquiring needed things. We all need to share and support each other. ❤

It’s your life and your space. You get to choose what is important to you and what to keep. There are no rules, just decluttering what you truly don’t need to free up physical space and mental space and training yourself to be mindful with your purchases so you don’t end up with a ton of stuff again. I personally wouldn’t get rid of something I might have to replace again because that’s just a waste of money, but with radical acceptance you will realize there is plenty around you that you definitely don’t need to hang on to. For the stuff you want to store for later… make a storage box or closet. Minimalism isn’t taking away things you love and it’s also not throwing everything out that you haven’t used in a week/month. Again, it’s your life and you get to decide what matters most to you to keep and that’s all that should matter.

I see this completely the opposite. Minimalism allows you to sell unused items and create more money. Also, in my opinion minimalists don't discard items that are needed but are rather more mindful of how each item is used so not nearly as much money is wasted purchasing items they later regret. I am certainly not privileged by any means, but living more mindfully has saved me so much. At least this has been my personal experience.

So I’m having to live with other people. Sometimes they swipe my food. I have this cute little Galanz fridge they’ve been using. I’m having to resort to setting myself up a little dining/kitchenette area and putting a padlock on my fridge. So I got a deal on a fridge for them and I’m going to use this as an opportunity to see if I can fit all my food in this little small fridge (prob except for a gallon of milk and a tub of butter and using the ice maker). And maybe learn to live this way for awhile like the main fridge (a third one lol) doesn’t exist for storage. Fridges and freezers are tricky Bcuz you can’t store the stuff without keeping it cold. Well anyways I’m trying to just make some lemonade out of these lemons again. Lol. The only other thing I had to buy for it was my own little tiny convection toaster/air fryer thing. (Bcuz they don’t clean the other one and I’m not their maid and I don’t like living sloppy like that lol). Well except for the door lock I bought to lock the room when I’m not around. Lol. And also still looking forward to the day I’m moving away and outta here. Lol. And yes, if I have to I will give said swiper food thief the boot. But for now it is what it is. I mean ugh. It’s so unsettling to buy something like sour cream and then you expect it to be there but no. Swiper the Fox done stole it and gobbled it up. 🙄 So yah. This bs ends today. Lol. (It’s not like I haven’t went off on her several times already and put her in her place...but I’m tired of having to do that). So I guess actions speak louder than words. Like no means no. I am looking forward to the look on her face tho when she sees all the new locks. 😅😅 Sorry for the long rant. But right? I’ll make my life better and benefit no matter what all these clowns are getting up to. Sometimes you just have to be more dogged than they are. Lol. Well it’s both their sloppy messes and their swiping so I’m ending both like two birds with one stone. Lol.

You probably Do NOT LIVE ALONE!!!! Being psychologist, you are not taking into Consideration that objects fill Voids for those suffering and being alone in Life!!! Your lifestyle is Not the answer to so many who are suffering. There is a much Deeper meaning to them. They need organization but the amount of Dopamine that is created from their surroundings is very important!!!!! Please be aware of the information you are putting out there!!!!!
