      Great news, good on you, my first varies checkup and banding was last year around the same time, this time was the 1 year follow up, the specialist said you are doing good, because last time it was 3-4 stage 3 varies and now there are 2 at 1-2 stages so no need for further banding.

    This keeps me sober: The Bible
    “When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.”

    I can relate so much to Shelleys story. Except I am the AUD person who quit for 20 years, but always resented it. When my husband left me, and all 3 kids grown and on my own I decided that I couod drink again. It helped the pain and the boredom, but... we all know how this story ends. I have liver disease, varices, no stomach lining. I was constantly puking and just drank harder. And I know my bowels are messed up bad. Anyway... I got sober 9 months ago on my own and have stuck with it. I am working with a great GP on my fatty liver disease as well as chronic alcohol induced hepatitis. Im hoping for some improvement at my next labs/check up. If not I will be going to a specialist. Sorry this was so long. My heart goes out to Shelly and her husband. 😢

    ive struggled with this question of "never" drinking again and I know its almost all of us who are addicted have struggled with this. I agree that we should stop cold turkey and never look back but I also think it sets a lot of us for failure because its black and white thinking. If we relapse and drink one drink at a party then we a lot of times will say "i messed up really bad, but since I slipped up let me just get all my drinking in and get slammed before I never drink again. Then one day leads into a week, into a year, etc. I like the AA approach of saying I will not drink today. This empowers you in the now and doesn't put so much pressure to be perfect the rest of your life.

    • @Kristen10-22
      @Kristen10-22 5 дней назад +2

      Don’t think of “never” just think not right now

    • @kathrynminnick8986
      @kathrynminnick8986 5 дней назад +6

      I think "one day at a time" and "never" can coexist, but they play different roles. "One day at a time" helps you turn the sober days into weeks into months into years, but "never" is the shield you must raise up against dangerous thoughts that try to tempt you into drinking "just one." It's like long-acting and short-acting insulin, each has its place-to meet different needs.

    Slipped up again this week. It doesn’t get easier, each time is worse than the last. People I love have suffered because of my own selfish decision to pick up the bottle. Praying that was the last slip up. Finally feeling better after eating copious amounts of food and taking in lots of fluids even if not just water. It’s not worth it at all, if you’re 1-2 days sober and feeling like a drink won’t hurt please remember the bad times and the hurt you’ve brought others and yourself. Praying for everyone’s sobriety and thank you again LD for blessing so many with a place to come to express themselves and shedding light on this ruthless decease. 🙏🏻

This disease is no joke, it takes over our minds and our lives. Your brain chemistry is changed now. We can't help that we crave it the way we do, and sometimes the inevitable happens and we think that drink will be ok this time, but it never is. The nostalgic thoughts that we have cloud out minds into thinking that it's a good idea, although it's not. I know you have it this time, I believe in you my friend! You have got this!!! I love your videos because you're so incredibly inspiring. I am in my late 40's and have had a relationship with alcohol since my late teens. Started as a binge drinker and mainly just a social drinker on weekends but when i drank i would get drunk drunk. That was most of my 20's then my early thirties i slowed down and was working out alot but i would still drink just not all the time...from about 37 I have basically averaged 6 or 7 beers a day I quit several times but the longest was 90 days. I was watching your vids and stopped again for 30 days but I failed again, I cut back to maybe 4 a day (2) tall boys. But for some reason Im having a terrible time quitting. It's coincidental that you mention this topic. Yesterday I came across a video on YTube with Matthew Perry discussing/arguing this topic with journalist Christopher Hitchens. Matthew Perry discussed this exact point about how 1 drink will initiate a domino effect of addiction. He argued that this is a diagnosed condition defined in medical journals by the AMA. Hitchens disagreed and was arguing that drinking was a choice.

    There is no such a thing as I'll just have one for alcoholics, that old saying "don't worry I can control drinking this time" has never and will never work for folks addicted to alcohol this also applies to those suffering from drug addiction. Total and complete abstinence from these demons that temp you is the only way for success in achieving sobriety. Temptation will always be there just waiting to catch you at your lowest and weakest moments it is this time that you have to reach deep down into your soul think of the consequences of your actions, think of the ones you love and don't let one bad decision jeopardize everything you worked so very hard for. Keep strong, keep your faith and keep yourself determined to maintain your sobriety. Shelly my prayers go out for you and your husband. May God Bless everyone out there. Stay Strong

    After hearing the wife's story, I want to share about my husband. He was not your typical alcoholic which is something everyone needs to know. He didn't drink day, sometimes went for days at a time without drinking. But when he did drink, he wouldn't stop. Stayed out at the bar until 2 or 3 in the morning. I was a wreck. Along the way, he got FOUR DUI's and was on probation for a good part of our marriage, even went to jail for #3. In addition, he was doing pills. He ruined some holidays and embarrassed me in from of my family. I didn't leave him because I was in denial that he was a true alcoholic because he rarely drank at home and not every day. After DWI4, he was doing a lot in AA and mentoring guys. It was nice for the kids and I not to have to worry. But after he got off paper in February 2024, he was smoking weed supposedly to help his appetite since he'd gotten so thin since a surgery in 2020. But he was doing this in our house and around our older teen girls. So the substance abuse never really went away on its own. He passed due to a fall in June 2024.

    For years i would say no, im not stopping at the store for a 6 pack of beer.. i would make it home, sit on the couch and take one shoe off then put that shoe back on and hop in the car and drive to that store and buy the beer.

    Hands up. I slipped up after 8 months on my 50th birthday. Just a couple of beers at dinner. You are only 50 once, right? Long story short, 3 weeks later and I was still drinking. The trajectory and speed of descent was as frightening as it was predictable. That night, then every other night, then 4 nights a week... Then it is the weekend. Delivero and Uber Eats deliveries........ I pulled it around 7 days ago so I guess I am starting again but I needed that lesson. The first 3 days are the worst for me. Be careful people.

    Hi LD. I’ve been a pretty big beer drinker for years. Was never physically addicted ,but would binge drink in the evenings especially during hard times in life I recently was told I have small fiber neuropathy and I do have autonomic dysfunction even though they claim my liver is good. Fibroscan 3.7kpa and liver enzymes good. Do you experience any heart rate problems/dysautomnia from the drinking?

    Not sure what made the gentleman with 30 years ever think he could drink again, or why he did this, but, that is not good. Not judging the guy and I feel sorry for his wife that after 30 years she has to deal with this, but, he was either severely mistaken, mislead, or just misread the gravity of his situation even after 3 decades. I know this happens, but that is a long stretch to then go back to your situation from 30 years prior. The insanity by it's very definition struck him hard.
