I survived Hurricane Helen gang so I’m celebrating by posting this video 😂 I’m excited to see ANOES 3 because I have heard nothing but great things! Thanks for watching and much love- Cole
Everyone should ABSOLUTELY check out ‘Scream, Queen: My Nightmare on Elm Street’ which is a documentary made by Mark Patton, who played Jesse in this movie. It’s about his experience with the backlash to this movie initially, homophobia in Hollywood, his life and career and it’s INCREDIBLE. If you’re a fan of the Freddy movies, especially this one, I can’t recommend it enough
While this isn't my favorite Freddy movie, this represents a lot about repressed homosexuality (that's what they went for actually) and I think at that exact point it was really great.
This movie is a vibe. I love it but it's also the first movie I ever saw of the franchise so I know nostalgia plays a part in that. My head canon is that since Nancy "vanquished" Freddy in that house and with her mom hiding his glove in the furnace, he's now tied to it and is possessing Jesse to rebuild his strength. This is a bridge movie from the tone and style of the original to the more epic movies coming up! Glad you survived Helene!
@@MrHootiedean this is now my head canon and it does make the most sense. Wild that they don’t really touch on it but since it seems like we will have different victims each movie, I assume it is just always going to be a new experience for everyone. Excited to see what is in store and hopefully no hurricanes again for a bit… 😬
Still my favorite Freddy Movie . Loved that it gave us a male final girl.the creepiest and scareiest version of Freddy. The Freddy coming out of Jesses body is nightmare fuel. Just a fun queer horror movie
I have a genuine soft spot for this movie. Freddy is genuinely creepy in this movie. He gets more progressively funny from now on, so I love this film for making him scary. The music is great too.
When I first watched this as a gay teen, I was so confused with what was going on and why do I feel drawn to it. Then growing up, I understood the subtext. Which was wild. 😂 I do love the fact that we had a fantastic Scream King that is Jessie. Lord he had a set of pipes.
Arguably a fun film to watch, also my personal favorite Freddy film since I was a kid. BTW, this has my personal makeup design for Freddy too. He looks absolutely demonic and sinister in this, the red eyes were always a nice touch
16:55 No joke, when I was 12, I snuck out to go beat this girl up, & my boyfriend Brian met me to make sure I was ok, & we ended up walking around the neighborhood after the girl wouldn’t come outside, & when the cops picked us up, they BANGED on my door (I was terrified my dad was gonna answer the door with a gun at 3?am) & the cop said “Does this belong to you?”. They really say shit like that. It was insane. The one time I snuck out & didn’t walk the 2 miles to Brian’s house & back to hang out, & we get picked up by the cops. It sucked so much. He was on probation for fighting & risked everything to keep me safe. It’s the only reason he didn’t get in trouble thankfully.
The reason I think Freddy tries to possess Jesse in this movie instead of killing people in their dreams is because Freddy thought possessing someone would reduce the amount of power he has. And his power means he can kill more people. But possessing someone instead did the opposite and took more of his power.
This is my favorite Nightmare movie. I love the slaughter when Freddy goes in public and just in general I love the way Freddy is as he's putzing around in the real world. Mark Patton- the actor who plays Jesse- Is one of, if not the first, male Scream Queens and I love that for him, even though this movie did cause a lot of professional issues for him.
Cole, once you’re done with all of the films in the series, I would highly recommend that you check out the documentary, Never Sleep Again. It’s about 3 hours long and it gets into great detail about how the movies were made and things. It also answers how and why they made the decisions they did as far as Part 2 goes. These people were truly clueless about it too. Some of them were so unaware of the gay overtones and everyone else noticed it from the get go. It was really pretty awkward and weird for everyone involved. Despite these problems, I think the film is still a very dark and intense. Particularly with that infamous scene of Freddy coming out of Jesse’s skin like that. That scene was wild and I liked how they filmed that!
My favourite thing about watching you is you always give movies a chance. This movie is quite disliked (not by me), and people don't remember characters like Lisa, but you give it all a chance and you let yourself enjoy the films regardless. It makes you as a reactor so fun to watch. Which is why I am still around. I look forward to watching more of these with you. These are the films I was lucky enough to grow up with. Errr I swear I am normal :)
The older I got, the more I appreciated this movie. I came to actually really like it. I would highly recommend you watching Scream Queen: My Nightmare on Elm Street. It is a great documentary about the actor Mark Patton who plays Jesse. It deals with how this film was a double-edged sword for his career.
Exactly this!!! Usually horror films help launch people's careers, and Mark Patton was unfairly criticized due to the directors choices!! A superb doc!!
There’s a great theory that Freddy is kind of ‘stuck’ in this house because of how Nancy defended him in her room, so that’s why he ends up messing with Jesse.
@@Kerrit Freddy’s face coming out of Jessie’s chest will haunt my dreams but I think that means this movie did its job 😂 happy to have you along for this marathon as always ❤️🙏

Welcome to the cash in sequel! New Line was more interested in building a franchise rather than expanding on Wes Craven’s mythology, which is why a lot of the movie doesn’t really make sense compared to the first one! They get better starting with the next one though, where they return to the rules established in the original. Can’t wait for you to experience Dream Warriors!
Dang I can't believe I missed this video when it dropped 😂 love this movie. Me and my friend would lovingly call this "The gayest Nightmare movie ever." He's actually facebook friends with Jesse's actor which is pretty rad.
This one is a bit confusing. But Freddy’s power starts bleeding into the real world through Jesse. I love how gay this one is too lol. But if you ask the director, he didn’t not see ANY gay undertones lol.
If you notice carefully, This movie has a very strong gay undertones. The guy who played Jesse is also gay in person. There are bunch of red flasg throughout the movie. From the sign on Jesse's door that says "No Chicks" even to the homoerotic scene with Jesse and his coach and that party scene with Jesse in Ron's room.
Basically heres what officially happened with this movie. The writer an director hated the original Nightmare on Elm Street movies. So he completely ignored all of the rules that where set up by Wes Craven in the first movie. When it came to Freddy Krueger those rules being he only has powers an abilities in the Dreamworld. He can only kill people in their dreams the writer an director of this movie. Hated that idea so he completely ignored an throw them away. Because of how the writer an director completely ignored everything that the first movie set up. That being that Freddy Krueger is a dream demon that only has powers an abilities in the Dreamworld. He can only kill you when your asleep an dreaming. So part 3 an after take place after the first movie only. They completely ignore an never speak of the events or characters of this movie. They stay true to the first movie so basically so to speak forget. Every single thing that you seen in this movie. Because it never happened in the other movies. This is all officially said on the documentary about this movie franchise. The movie studio literally and figuratively said they have no idea what the writer an director was thinking. When he completely ignored that Freddy Krueger was a dream demon killer. That only has powers an abilities in the Dreamworld an only kills people in their dreams. But they got Wes Craven back to make the 3rd movie to get it back on track. Basically to make Freddy Krueger a dream demon killer again. That only has powers an abilities in the Dreamworld. Who can only kill people in their dreams then they made sure. That all of the other writers an directors stayed true to that dream demon killer. Who only has powers an abilities in the Dreamworld an only kills people in their dreams.
Fun fact: One of the girls(pink shirt) on the bus in the opening, went on to play one of Heather Langenkamp's(Nancy part 1) sisters in a sitcom I loved growing up. An actress you'll meet in part 4 plays another sister.
When you get to the 5th and 6th movie - they’re BAD bad. Not in a “so bad it’s good” kinda way. Just boring. But then you will be rewarded with Wes Craven’s New Nightmare which kicks all kinds of ass.
Yes, this film has its issues or flaws. Particularly with the supposed “subtext” of the theme of coming to terms with one’s own sexuality or the idea of trying to convince yourself of being “straight” when you could be actually gay or bi sexual. I did like the idea of Freddy kind of trying to plant those ideas into Jesse’s head even more. He was already socially awkward as it is. Jesse was also described as having an “obvious inferiority complex.” I imagine that not everyone liked Jesse as the main character but I liked that he kind of had this bit of a vulnerable side and is unsure how to handle what’s been happening to him. We rarely in horror films do we ever see the man in such a state like this. This is also the film where not only Freddy started to speak more but it’s also the first time we ever truly heard him swear or use cuss words. While he’s definitely starting to be a bit more of a jokester in this film, he still retains a level of darkness and grit to him for the lack of a better word.
The funny part about this movie is that the director and writer of this still claim all homosexual undertones were somehow unintentional, like you don’t accidentally write this movie
Yeah they didn’t quite know what to do with the series. Wes Craven refused to be involved and it shows. The next 2 are better. I wouldn’t try to figure it out. It’s extremely obtuse. I’m a gay man and a Freddy fan and the whole gay subtext sailed right over my head even back then.
