Ivan Van Sertima, the Guyanese professor, who was based in Britain, died in 2009.
He wasn’t based in Britain. He taught at Rutgers university in New Jersey. I actually met him and my wife took one of his classes.

Van Sertima was born in Kitty Village, near Georgetown, in what was then the colony of British Guiana (present-day Guyana); he retained his British citizenship throughout his life. He completed primary and secondary school in Guyana, and started writing poetry. He attended the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) at the University of London from 1959. In addition to his creative writing, Van Sertima completed his undergraduate studies in African languages and literature at SOAS in 1969, where he graduated with honours.
From 1957 to 1959, Van Sertima worked as a Press and Broadcasting Officer in the Guyana Information Services. During the 1960s, he worked for several years in Great Britain as a journalist, doing weekly broadcasts to the Caribbean and Africa. Van Sertima married Maria Nagy in 1964; they adopted two sons, Larry and Michael.
In doing field work in Africa, he compiled a dictionary of Swahili legal terms in 1967. In 1970 Van Sertima immigrated to the United States, where he entered Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, for graduate work.

I always thought of my forefathers as being unarmed farmers. To hear your guest speaker claim that they were Kings in America before Columbus. Unimpressed. I will always believe that they were unarmed working farm people. To day my family backgeound are 😂working people, some professional, all regular people. I am also in the working people category before I retired. My people did not have the type of arms that the slave masters had. So they were more easily captured. I will never accept my people of being Kings and Queens. I wish you could hear and see with my ears, the words that you feel are so much better for people to be. Not me kings and Queens are not a part of what I consider to be a good person. These Kings and Queens are stealing, cheating and killing people for their wealth. While are you so proud of such action? Do not include my People in your insecure world.
Why is so hard for Black Folks to accept that there were Blacks here already before the U S of America was organized. On the other hand, There are us descendants of Africa because I am a descendant of the West African slave trade. I am not against your forefathers being here before my enslaved forefathers were forced to come here. Why are you trying to eliminate my forefathers? What will it do for you? I have a right to my history just as you have a right to your history. What is the problem? I really want to know.

I agree more than one point of view the Olmecs are the key players in our existence this is where we consider ourselves to be aboriginal people and indigenous along with the native peoples who travelled across the Bering Strait land bridge who actually lived together. Along with the Africans who travelled to the Americas to trade in commerce.
